Mish-mash Friday & Winner of Drawing for Last Week

Make sure to go visit aimtx from MUA’s new blog, Style Spy. She is a great writer with a great sense of style and will even hunt down Pucci wellies for you.

Forgot to mention that for a limited time, you can get “samples” from MDCI of all five perfumes for 35 Euro, plus shipping. Now, I put the word samples in quotes because these are not samples, they are incredibly generous bottles, over 5 mls and less than 10 mls. You can procure those big, honking samples by e-mailing the so very kind and charming Claude Marchal at [email protected]

Winner of the drawing for a sample of Yosh Whiteflowers and Parfum des Merveilles is… Morgan! Just hit the Contact Us link over there on the left and send me your address, and I’ll send you the sample!

So where are my volunteers on those candles? BTW, did I note before that Candle Delirium (not affiliated or benefitting in any way) is about the best online retailer I know? Ordered a few things yesterday, get shipping notice before the day is over. Only Parfum1.com does as well.

MBT shoes, first shoes I ever got that had their own DVD in the box, but… well, they are really awesome. They have a weird sole so it sort of rocks, and keeps you unstable in the feet, which is good because your feet don’t get tired, and because they seem to float, you feel like you’re walking on air, and it works your legs and butt like it was their job. They have more normalish styles than the black and red number I got.

POTL parfum is one of those scents that I can never really figure out if I like or not. Some days yes, some days it’s just a Play-doh meets Cherry Horror Show. The one thing I do know, the POTL body cream is always just right — this is some amazing smelling cream.

Much to my horror, Hermes Doblis is really that good, but it took several samplings for it to really become a strong enough lust that I would spring the kind of money it took to procure Bottle 768 of 1000.

31 days until the new Chanel scents are available at selected Chanel boutiques. Mark your calendars for Feb 12.

There should be enough days for me to catch up on Rome before the new season starts on HBO. Do I really need to watch the Real Housewives of Orange County? I think I don’t, but someone convince me it is good enough trashy TV to be worth it.

Do you eBay? If you do, do you use a sniping program? Nothing is worse than watching people bid up an item four days before the auction ends. Um, the point of eBay is trying to either get a bargain or something that is hard to find. Best eBay tool ever is an auction sniping service. I use Auction Sniper. You put in the item number, the top price you are willing to pay, and 5 or 6 seconds before the auction ends, it places the bid for you. If you are too low, you don’t get the item. If you are the high bid, it goes the next increment over the next highest bid, so you never have to pay more than you wanted to. It is a good way to discipline yourself to set a price and stick with it instead of getting caught up in bidding against someone else with five days left in the auction.

Okay, one quick trashy poll. Who is worse, The Donald or Rosie or Babwah?

  • Maria B. says:

Gosh, I missed this column entirely–just saw the top.

FWIW, I think the Donald and Rosie should shut up, and, more important, the press should refuse to carry any more stories about them until they behave themselves–or….they agree to mud wrestle each other while wearing tiny bathing suits.

I confess. I enjoy POTL thoroughly. I didn’t use Play-Doh myself and don’t have children, so fortunately I wouldn’t recognize that note if it appeared. I like marzipan and I enjoy the comfort POTL gives me. A couple of nights ago I put a few drops on and added some very nice unscented body butter. Oh, what a nice feeling–and for less than the POTL cream costs, however pleasant it may be.

  • Emotenote says:

Bawbwa, thats’ all I can say from what I’ve seen and heard, it’s kinda Hamptons vs. the streets baby. (actually I used to know Rosie so I’m a little biased but I think these folks are perceived by their last catch and Bawbwa just needs a new fishing hole.

  • aimtx says:

Oh, thank you for the shout-out, Patty. I really appreciate it.

Personally, I think Bab-wah is the worst, because once upon a time she had journalistic integrity and was a powerful woman in a very male-dominated field. Now she interviews people like Britney Spears. Oh, how the mighty have fallen…

  • tmp00 says:

Well, I think you know how I feel about PoTL, but i have to admit, the body cream is very nice and doesn’t get near to the play-dohness of the actual scent. If I used body cream, I might try it.

I have a thing about candles. Don’t know why.

MBT Shoes are on my list- a friend of mine was forced to wear them by her doctor (which was nice, she could write them off) and swears by them, even if she swears at them for being in her opinion wildly unattractive.

I don’t even want to think about Doblis

“Real Housewives” makes me want to hurl- they’re so smug in their little housing development. They act like it’s Beverly Park or something and it looks like something out of Knots Landing (but not nearly as fun)

Whose worse? The Donald, hands down. He had the gall to put up a sign when Trump Tower was going up reading that it would contain “the most beautiful fountain in the world”. I thought there were going to be a lot of Italians that would have soemthing to say about that; you be the judge:

  • violetnoir says:

Patty, I will email you later this weekend, beginning of next week, but in the meantime, thank you so, so much for the information on the MDCI line, which I am dying to try. I just emailed the gentleman, so I hope to order my samples soon.

Ooh, Doblis??? Do tell…what is it like?

I can’t wear POTL, the fragrance. I think I told you earlier that it makes my skin crawl. But that cream is outstanding, and worth every penny!

Let’s see, The Donald, Rosie, or Baba WaWa…Just as I think the level of “important cultural events” has sunk to a new low in our society, it sinks even lower. Well, that’s how empires fall, and as far as I am concerned, they are ALL disgusting!

    Hugs!

  • Patricia Seybold says:

    The Donald!!!!

  • Patty says:

Gaia — you need a candle melter, then you don’t have to worry about flame. I picked one up at Bed, Bath and Beyond for like $30 or so, and it applies heat from the top, and the candle sits on the base, and as it melts, the scent just pours off of it. I hate smoke, especially when it collects on the ceilings and windows,so this is the perfect thing, and no danger of fire, maybe just a little wax spillage, but that’s no biggie.

Well… if you must know, I have that Bravo Cheerleader thing from last year on my video iPod, which I can only watch while on the treadmill. I’m thinking Footballers Wives might have to join it.

If I have to exercise, I insist on trash while doing it!

  • chayaruchama says:

Thanks, Patty for the MBT hint !

    And, NO…
I just couldn’t buy the Doblis.
    I just drool a lot.

  • Patty says:

Well, hang on on the candles, I wound up getting them all (the other three felt left out), and I will report on them next week when they get here. So if they aren’t worth it, you don’t need to bother!

I wasn’t so crazy about a couple of the normal DL’s, so I’m hoping these will be far, far better.

  • Patty says:

Anna — history throw in with trash makes me feel better about the whole thing too. That’s most of the appeal of Jane Austen for me — forerunne to all the bodice rippers, but done without any bodice ripping.

Well, they are supposed to be good for your back and to tone your legs and hinder. I like them just because they feel great to walk in. They’re meant to make you feel like you are walking on the beach or on moss, something soft, with give to it. And they definitely do that.

Not Dr. Scholl’ish, much softer, springy. My only complaint is that they need to find a way to make them look good in a high-heel FM stiletto.

aimtx is not going to approve of this stylistically. 🙂

  • Patty says:

Christine — geniuses? Whee! Usually I get called a moron. 🙂

I think I’ve decided that I dislike all of them equally, mostly because they won’t just let it go, Babwah included.

  • Candles: I don’t do candles. Too dangerous with a house full of hairy beasties who run like crazy. I use lamp rings, solid cubes from L’Occitane and room sprays. Not the same, but I have an aversion to burning down the house.

eBay: Just call me Queen Sniper. I don’t understand bidding wars 4 days before an item ends. Why do people do it?

Trash TV: I can one-up you. I TiVo stuff like the Footballers Wives show from BBC America. In my defense, I only watch it while doing the elliptical.

  • Judith says:

Well, you are pretty bad yourself! There were several of those candles that appealed to me, but since I am theoretically on a No-Buy, and I have broken it several times already (I blame YOU):), I will hold off (for at least a day or two). Sent an email about the samples, though! 8-|

  • Patty says:

Doblis did sneak up on me, too, much to my credit card’s pain. Oy. I blame you, J.

  • Patty says:

Judith — you need to spritz, in my opinion, on the MDCI’s. They all have great sillage, which is why I liked them so much, and I think the dabbing just won’t get to what I think is their strong point.

And that is a great deal, it’s like 50 mls for $35 Euros. I’m pretty sure they are 10 ml bottles, from just eyeballing them. It’s like getting a coffret!

  • Anna says:

Rome is one of my guilty pleasures. I loooove the Atia character. And I’ll admit that Pullo ain’t too bad to look at either. Sure, it’s trash, but it’s *high-minded* trash, thank you very much.

Those shoes! Now there’s something for me to think about until the Chanels come out. Are they supposed to tone your legs like the old Dr. Scholls (dating myself here) used to claim?

    Have a great weekend!

  • Judith says:

oh, yeah, and of course Doblis is great–sneaks up on you, though!

  • Judith says:

Ok, lemme see–I use bidnip (cheaper than auction sniper for big items), the Donald is worse, Aimtx’s blog is great, but dangerous–and I am wondering whether to send away for those samples. It sounds like a great deal. I did get to test them, and I wasn’t as carried away as everyone else, but I am wondering if this was because I just dabbed a little, rather than spraying a lot. Whaddya think?

  • Patty says:

Chaya, do you have the Doblis? It does seem made for you completely. Normally the DH isn’t so crazy about most leathers, though he loves that scent, and he swooned over this one.

I think you would like the MBTs. I’m thinking of getting my mom a pair. She’s had knee replacement surgery a few years ago and broken her ankle last year, plus has a spur, and I think these shoes would really help all of those things. She stands so much and walks so much, I just don’t want her to have to slow down any, it makes her mad when that happens.

Zappos is the way to go. If you get them, hate them, the return is soooo easy to do.

You have a good weekend too!

  • Patty says:

Elle — your DH does have excellent taste, and how thoughtful of him to plan ahead to get you the best Valentine’s Day present ever. Mine is going to do the same, and in return I promise not to sleep with any rich guys or perfume-makers to feed my obsession.

I gotta tell you, though, the new episode of The Apprentice L.A. with The Donald and his daughter Ivanka are pretty good. I really miss Carolyn, but Ivanka is pretty bitchy.

  • Christine says:

Thank god for your suggestion on the auction sniper. That is brilliant and only reinforces my belief that the Posse is run by geniuses.

Also? Donald is worst. I didn’t like him before but I think he’s just shameless these days. Blech to him. (And I don’t even particularly care for Rosie or The View).

  • chayaruchama says:

    Well, babe-

I just drool when I walk by the Doblis.
For a Mitsouko lover like me, it’s the worst temptation. I just pretend it doesn’t exist…although it was made for me.

I’ve been eyeing the MBT’s for awhile now.
If they didn’t work out for me, I’d be despondent, though…
    [I live in Danskos, sadly.
    Wish I didn’t have to.]

Let’s just call it a draw, and bang all three doofy heads together- the way our mothers would have done !

Have a good w/e, Patty and March !

  • Elle says:

Racing off to calendar to circle Feb. 12th in red – just in time for me to get my Vday gift from DH. He’ll be pleased to know he has such good taste.
Very psyched to see Aimtx has a blog! Just went to it – it’s brilliant! And love the picture of Shine at the bottom. 🙂
I heart AuctionSniper. I’m never around to bid at the last minute and, like Leo, I can’t understand why anyone would bid sooner. And for his poll I must say that the James Blunt song is possibly one of the three worst songs of all time. I think the Geneva Convention would rule that it is cruel and unusual punishment to have anyone be forced to listen to more than 30 seconds of it. I don’t know what’s going on w/ Barbara, Rosie and the combover, but the latter annoys me to the extreme, so I’d pick him.

  • Patty says:

Sariah, does anyone even remember how it got started? I agree on The Donald is worse, but the inability of either one of these two to show just a skosh of class and shut up about it already is pretty horrible.

  • Patty says:

Should I call it Psycho Friday instead?

You seriously need these shoes. My ass feels better already, less droopy!

We just started watching Rome this week, so we have all of last season to catch up on, but I wish someone would have told me it’s just a big old soap opera with a little history thrown in to class it up.

BTW, what’s with you guys throwing Posh and Becks over the fence to us? He can come, but that scarecrow needs to stay behind. We are full up with fake celeb Anorexics.

You can actually hit it in the last few seconds? My computer always seems to knot up every time I tried that.

  • Leopoldo says:

Sariah – his one gift is that his name has introduced a new bit of cockney rhyming slang to the world…:d

  • sariah says:

The Donald is sooooo bad – really showing his true colors now. That he keeps hurling around insults about Rosie’s physical appearance and sexual orintation shows really how out to lunch he is. Makes me think that nobody ever says no to this guy so he thinks he can just do or say whatever he wants.

I only use “buy-it-now” on ebay, can’t be bothered to bid on anything.

2 great non-perfume Etailers are Adagio Teas (great sample tins for $1 to $3, and a wonderful selection of loose teas), and Dagoba Chocolate.

Leopoldo – I don’t know the other 2, but the James Blunt song makes me hurl.

  • Leopoldo says:

Too much to respond to. Brain. Overloaded.

I’m now imagining you as a cartoon version of the oh so femme lady on the left of your blog name, in your rock and roll MBTs. I want a pair so I can cartoon up myself too!

I’ve told you about the candles already. I’m a Brit. Go figure.

Rome is deliriously entertaining trash isn’t it? Can’t wait to see what happens this series.. I love the ginger haired woman from hell who paid foor poor Lindsey Duncan’s character to be stripped naked in the street. Evil. Truly evil. Best soap star since Joan Collins.

I never use an eBay sniper. I make sure I’m available to bid in the last few seconds (always beating the sniper if, and only if, the price is right). I too am flabberghasted by the early bidding nincompoops.

And is your poll there to make me feel culturally illiterate? I’ll do a Brit version: who’s worse: Jordan or Jade or James (Blunt)?

    You’re beautiful, Patty!
