Ellie Nuit

About a year or so ago, Ellie D came out, and I immediately fell in love with my first Lily of the Valley perfume – yes, the evil devil flower snagged me.  Since them, I’ve been much anticipating Ellie Nuit, which I expected to be a darker version of Ellie D.

 Unso.

Notes of Sandalwood, cashmere wood, coriander seeds, violet, rose, fig, musk, blackcurrant, and oak moss make up the perfume, which are far, far different notes than the first Ellie.  It goes on with almost a hay smell (yeah, yeah, for you hay ‘hos, you know what I’m sayin’ here).  I’m guessing that’s more coriander than hay, but it’s a seriously nice effect with the fig and violet doing the backstroke underneath it.  It has the same earthiness as Ellie D, but going less in the green direction.  Give it some time, and it smooths out to an elegant dark purple satin glove. Not dark, but still extravagantly rich, but without that bright, lush greenness of the original.  It’s love for me.

Since while you read this I’ll just be touching down in Europe and trying to figure out how to get through the day with no sleep, there will likely be no responses to comments.  So… here’s what we should do.  Instead of just commenting to me, reply to each other in comments, which is really a lot of fun for me to read later!

Have not tried either of these, BUT have been a recent victim of jet lag. I think Louise is correct — much worse flying home!
    Bon voyage Patty!!!!

    Have a wonderful time, Patty!

Ellie Nuit is lovely, isn’t it? I think I like the original better, but I need to keep wearing my sample before I decide.

    Hugs!

Oooh, hay! I’ve enjoyed scents with a good hay note, so this is one I should try — especially since I like violets, too.

I’ve enjoyed L’Artisan’s Fleur de Narcisse; what other scents have a predominate hay note? Anything I should look for?

    • Louise says:

Hay! It’s lonely here today 🙂

Two good hay scents-Vie de Chateau and Sballo.

I think everybody’s in a post-holiday stupor. At least I am! I had no idea Ellie D was LoTV; I am a LoTV devotee, though it doesn’t always love me. Must try it.

Just curious: when you say ‘hay’ are you talking green or dried?

      • Eileen says:

Thanks, Louise! I’ll put those on my list. As for green or dried, how about in the middle? Freshly cut hay is quite green, but if you wait a day or two it turns to this nice mix of green and dried. That’s my favorite part. Can you tell I’m a small town girl?

Hope your having a fun time, Patty!

I must give the first Ellie another try-I got my samp before I realized that maybe I do like flowers after all :d/

But my, doesn’t the Nuit sound nice-anything with a hay rift intrigues me. Off to get a samp…

For me, the trick to overseas travel is to slap myself quickly into a local schedule, and given the excitement of arrival and the quality of the coffee, it never is much of a problem. I don’t get jet lag at all flying east…returning west if harder, maybe because I just don’t wanna. Have a blast :d
