pearl clutching

Christian Dior Leather Oud

Okay, Oud is clearly the new fruity floral.  I fully expect that there will be
soon a new Britney fragrance called “Infected” that will pair it with Ozone
berries, bubblegum accord and A-200 Pyrinate.

It would totally tee me off if this weren’t really lovely.  This Dior has just
the perfect touch of glove leather, oud, smoke and cedar, cut with what I smell
as a bit of citrus.  It stays close to the skin but has enough throw to invite
you in to sniff.  It’s apparently marketed as a masculine scent, but to be
honest I think it falls a bit more in the category of the clutch clutching camp.
Bandit would scare it in the locker room and there are several Montales that
would cause pearls to be clutched.

Would I buy it?  Maybe, if I could actually use the Dior website, which seems to
have been made about 1998 to find out where I can get it and how much it is.
Yes, I have an actual Dior boutique blocks from my hovel and could wander over
there to see what the price might be.  If it’s there.  But that’s not the point,
Not everyone does.

With all those other leather/ouds out there sampling and stating prices, what is
Dior bringing to the table other than a moderately serviceable Oud and an
exclusionary marketing plan?

I’d give you prices, but I don’t know them.  My sample came from a friend.

Haha. I woke up down today. You?ve chereed me up!

  • Ann says:

Don’t know if this will help or not, but at the Las Vegas
Dior boutique, which does carry the new collection, I have dealt with a really nice sales associated named Rachelle. She was very helpful and kind when I chatted with her earlier this year.

musette… save yourself a trip to the dior boutique. we have one, too, and they are clueless about their scents… with the exeception of just a handful. always amazes me. more likely to find this at neiman’s or macy’s (which actually had a couple of the diors from this series).

  • Caroline says:

Well, dang. You wax prolific about the notes of a new Christian Dior and I get all weak-kneed – and obsessed. Now I have to go smell for myself what Oud is all about. It’s all your fault, Tom. :-)

Might I also throw into the Scents that Make A Gal Clutch Her Pearls category: Creed Green Irish Tweed; the original Joop for men; Eau Sauvage; and Grey Flannel.

    I’m just sayin’.

  • Fernando says:

I tried to find these at the Dior boutique in Boston a while ago, and got a totally blank stare from the sales guy, who then told me the right place to buy Dior perfumes is Saks.

And I too tried the web site and got nowhere. They didn’t even answer my email. So I think I’d go with Montale Oud Cuir d’Arabie instead…

  • Musette says:

    Tom,

This review had me rolling – and prompts me to retry the Leather Oud. If I fall in love with it I’m comin’ to see you….:-w

    :d

    xo >-)

    HI Tom,

These actually come in three sizes, and the smallest one is 125mL…still waay too big, but much better than 300mL!!!

I had a similar frustration with the website, and trying to find buying information. I emailed the people at Dior, and it took them about a month to get back to me, and all they did at that point was give me the phone number for the boutique in Las Vegas. No other information, which I thought was dismissive, and it really p—ed me off.
And, yes, I still want a bottle of that shamefully redundant, yet addictively wonderful, Mitzah—even with the terrible customer relations.
    :)

  • mals86 says:

Well, heck, Tom, Bandit skeers ME!

    AND my pearls. Clutched.

Give me Cuir de Lancome (full disclosure: I just bought a backup bottle) and Montale Aoud Roses Petals any. flippin’. day. But then, I stay out of locker rooms. ;)

(Thanks for the grins today, I needed them.)

    • Tom says:

      thanks!

I love Montale as well. I blame Kelly for starting me in on them.

I’m not big on locker rooms either..

  • Rappleyea says:

This whole review had me ROTFL! Great job, Tom. Ironically, I’m wearing pearls (ringed ones though – not quite as prissy) and a leather scent – Chanel’s Cuir de Russie, which reads very soft and floral on my skin.

  • nozknoz says:

These La Collection Diors are $225 for 8.5 ounces (!!!). Someone noted when these were first announced on NST that it looked like Dior was copying the Chanel Exclusifs, but these Diors are not as light as the Chanels, so selling them in vats is truly annoying. I did not like Leather Oud, but I’d buy New Look 1947 if it were available in 1.7 or even 3.3 ounces.

“would cause pearls to be clutched” – priceless!

  • Olfacta says:

    Britney oud? “Infected?” ROTFL!

I tried the Dior one and it’s nice. Even the DH liked it. But the oud thing has worn out its welcome, you might say, around he-ah.

  • JAntoinette says:

    Tom, “Infected”? Brilliant!

P.S. the Dior France site quotes the price as 150 euros.

  • Francesca says:

I have to say, “Christian Dior Leather Oud” is a combination of words I never, ever, expected to read or hear.
