Psst? Is anyone there? Sniffa?

Is anyone out there?  The DNS is propagating. We’ve testing the transferred site, and it looks okay.  You never know until the propagation is done, so I’m just waiting, with my fingers crossed, for that to be finished to see how good my blog-moving skills were.  Portia calls me a drama queen when I whine about WordPress and blogs and this crap, and I am.

Tom is sick today, and after two days of all my Drama Queen Blog Tantrum Throwing, I’m not sure how entertaining I’ll be, but let’s give it a whirl! If I wind up in a puddle over in the corner cursing, just step over me and come back on Friday when Portia will be entertaining.

Sniffa!

Perfume review - sniffaAfter the first slowdown, I begged them to let me pay them more money so I didn’t have to ever deal with this slowdown/off thing again.  “Oh, not necessary, you are absolutely fine!” they said. I started turning back on all my plug-ins and the fonts and the blogroll, etc.   A week later, another slowdown and then

OFF switch.

Bitches.

and I went shopping to find a host that gives you a call first to help you figure out what is spiking the thing that nobody keeps track of so I can fix it.  In the meantime, a few features had to be turned off so I could keep the blog alive until I could get it moved.  If you see some glitchy stuff, I’m working on sweeping up the flotsam and jetsam of a move. Heck, I may as well just do a new theme while I’m at it.  No?  Fine, I’ll wait because that could be the final step through the Revolving Door of Insanity that leaves me on the wrong side.

Okay, that was really entertaining.

Wake up!

Sniffa, what was I saying?  Oh, it was great. Wonderful to spend time with Musette and March, meet up with Erin from Now Smell this, Francesca, Mark Behnke, Alyssa Harad, and a lot of other perfume peeps that a lot of people know, but some don’t.  Don’t tell anyone, but I don’t really go for the perfume. I go for the company.  The trip to CB was wild, watching the former dismissive of reality scent peeps come around to the correct way of thinking.  As was the JAR experience – tears, laughter, there’s really not much that compares to it.  The good news is, Taylor said it is possible the original formulation of JAR Golconda is coming back. I know!

The Bergdorf breakfast was way too long, like 2.5 hours.  Musette and March snuck out with that “going to the bathroom” excuse and then never came back as they went shopping ahead of the crowd, getting fabulous eyebrows from the expert brow lady at Bobbie Brown.

Now, y’all know that they do a huge basket giveaway at Bergdorf Goodman for Sniffa, right?  But you have to enter your name, which I always forget to do, just figuring it magically gets in the basket somehow.  March apparently figures the same thing, but Musette dropped in an entry for March that saidMarch (by Anita).

Yes, you know how this story ends.  Time for the drawing, Musette heads for the bathroom, March goes to see who wins. All of a sudden we see a shrieking March running back towards the bathroom – yup, in Bergdorf – screaming “You won, I won, we won!!” or some/all variations of that.  It was hysterical, especially since she was in 4-inch platform bang-me –banging shoes.  I don’t know what all was in the basket, they arranged to have it shipped, but I am expecting a full report once it arrives – and you should be too!

min new york - sniffaLunch was, well, lunch. Alyssa and Musette did a great job with their speeches, March threw mints and will likely be expunged from the e-mail invitation list, but it was really pretty funny. It threw Musette completely off her game and off her prepared speech, and she does a great job when she just stands up and starts talking.  We spent a nice, long time at MiN New York on Friday evening chatting with Chad and Mindy.  MiN is a beautiful shop, well laid out, very zen, lovely perfumes, a bar area to belly up to as you try some scents, couple of chairs and a couch if you just want to get off your feet for a bit and figure out how you really feel about that scent.  This is what a perfume shopping experience should be like.  And they are both just lovely – friendly knowledgeable, warm. We loved our time there and could have just bunked in for the night, but I had to get my incense burner treasure home.  I’m still more than a little embarrassed about what I paid for it. I blame Francesca and Michelle.

Sniffa continued on Sunday, as we meandered over to Barneys – not on the tour, we were sorta just mashing about by ourselves at this point – to sniff the bell jars, where I finally got some Une Voix Noire to sniff – we talked about this on Tuesday.  What was funny is watching Musette and Alyssa get all swoony over Serge Lutens de Profundis.  Not that I disagree, it is probably my favorite Lutens perfume.  They had both missed it or dismissed it when it launched last year, I believe.  Musette dragged me over to the Frederic Malle counter – March was back at the apartment with a migraine – where she showed me the Carnal Flower spray for hair.

How on earth did I miss this?!?!

Someone really should have told me before now. Amazing stuff, green tuberose lightly scenting your hair as you go walking around.  I’m going to need more than the little tester the nice Barney’s man made up for me.  Then it was off to Osswald in Soho, the new perfume shop, which is also an old perfume shop since they are located in Switzerland.  Another gorgeous shop with a bunch of perfumes difficult to find outside of Europe. Lovely staff, lovely shop, they opened up for us on Sunday.

I was super-sad to come home and leave all my lovely friends that are so much fun to spend time with.  Really sad when I came back to that &%^#&*^ mess that hopefully will have propagated by morning so you all can come visit and say hi!  So let’s have some fun and speculate about what’s in that basket!  I’ll see if I can talk Musette into forking over more of the sample stash she shipped to her house for a lucky commenter or two.

    Hi Patty,
You may be a Drama Queen but your descriptions make me into a Hopeless Lemming!
I am in the process of planning an overseas trip and all I can think of is a mini Sniffa of my own.
Trying not to salivate too much.
Now, how to convince my husband?

Greetings! Very useful advice within this article! It’s the little changes that make the greatest changes. Thanks for sharing!

Whoooo I got blamed for Bad Behaviorz on the Interwebz, yeah baby! Heh heheh 😉
It was a very VERY nice incense burner, Patty. Gorgeous. I wanted it. I mean, Fornasetti, for heaven’s sakes!! Of course you needed it, don’t be silly!

It was a fabulous weekend, and yes, absolutely about the people. That said, I’m quite taken with the Hermes … L’Ambre des Merveilles. And those edible essential essences at MiN, 3 of which followed me home.
I can’t say I feel for much of the new …. so much of it was *fresh, hella fresh* with a vengeance. And sadly the Voix Noire did not like me one bit. But I did like the Hermes, and fell in love all over again with Amouage Woman. And discovered Iris Nobile over at Barney’s.

    • Patty says:

I really think you were the most to blame! 🙂 I got to tell you, though, the incense they use in there is ah-maz-ing! It’s the prettiest incense I think I’ve ever smelled, and I have been buying incense – Japanese, Indian, all sorts – for years. Pungent yet delicate, I’m a little worried about getting more because I believe they said it was $75 a bundle. Um, I’m going to blame you for that too. 🙂

That new Hermes is so pretty! Which three of the Chef’s essences did you get? I should have grabbed a couple of those for my wine.

Did you do the new Iris Nobile, the Sublime?

  • Lynne Marie says:

So glad you are back up and running – I had SERIOUS palpitations when I couldn’t get into the blog last night. As for the winning basket, let me see… some Guerlains, some Lutens, JAR, Chanel, heaven, peace, love, joy, ( those last four kinda go without saying if the first four are in the basket in ANY configuration!). Congrats on your delicious win!!

    • Patty says:

Oh, honey, they can’t be worse than mine. The support guy actually called me after one e-mail I sent him to make sure I was okay. 🙂 yeah, yeah, I’m a drama queen and prone to hyperbole, sorry!

  • Lindaloo says:

Seems to be a good week for Posse peeps — if she hasn’t already done so, Musette needs to get herself over to CaFleureBon to claim her 2 full bottle winnings.

Meanwhile, sounds like you all had an excellent (and very fun) time at Sniffa. I’m guessing the Bergdorf basket would contain some lovely (maybe press-sized) samples — the new Tom Fords from both lines, the Guerlain city scents and Les Deserts, the new Ateliers, perhaps a Kilian solid. And surely they would include at least a sample of the 111th anniversary perfume that Kurkdjian did for them.
I imagine they might also include some beauty and body products and a gorgeous cosmetic or two?

Look forward to hearing the details (and reviews).

And I really appreciate all the behind-the scenes, hair-pulling work bloggers have to do well beyond writing regularly enough to keep us all informed and entertained. Thank you.

    • Patty says:

I”m sure she’s caught those. What is it with her winning so much? Craziness! I send her an e-mail so she can go get her prize tomorrow.

We did have a great time. yeah, there will be a Tom Ford in there, hopefully Musette’s beloved Guerlain she wanted. Probably the new Houbigant and one of those Nest perfumes, which I really didn’t like at all.

Dealing with websites is a trial. I hope now I’ve moved to a great host that will be faster and more reliable than the last few, which have just annoyed me. It seems faster, doesn’t it? By a lot!

  • Zazie says:

Oh, the sniffing, the perfume counters, the fellow perfumistas…and THAT basket full of precioussssness!!! I mean, talk about living vicariously!!
Anyway, glad you had a great time. You ladies are so lucky to have carnal flower for hair! Now I am envious! Too bad It’s an american exclusive…

    • Patty says:

I know! I’m so glad they won it just so I can learn all the details of what was in it.

It’s an Amerian exclusive, really? wonder why that is? I always bitch every time I get near a Malle boutique that they won’t make that great gardenia room scent into a perfume or even a room spray. He told me no room spray because it’s such a heavy scent and discolors, people would spray it on their nice white couch and then it would stain.

I really just had to look at him because I know that is true, but why does it have to be always the case that other people’s stupidity and inability to read big labels that spraying that on or near things that stain will, um, stain it, keep me from the things I want other people to make?

  • Rena says:

If I was doing a gift basket, it would definitely include anything that was exclusive to Bergdorfs–so a JAR perfume, Beloved, etc. Maybe throw in some Guerlain or Chanel

Seeing this post reminded me that I haven’t been to MIN since I moved from Boston, though I have been to Osswald, Saks, Barneys, Bergdorf Goodman and Henri Bendel. Must remedy this soon:-)

    • Patty says:

boy, I would be shocked if there were a JAR in there. I’m thinking not. I wonder if JAR has ever done a giveaway? 🙂 Should be an Amouage of some type, Guerlain. I didn’t even get a close look, so I can’t wait until Musette does the big reveal!

OMG, you have to go! They are so nice in there, and it’s the prettiest and most comfortable place to go and sniff perfume in New York, and maybe even the country. Just gorgeous store, I could move in to MiN.:)

  • HemlockSillage says:

Glad to hear you guys had such great fun. Sorry I had to miss it. I think you all would be a hoot!

I’m so glad to hear De Profundis getting some love. It has this bitter green floral/marigold note that I adore. Okay, I think it’s supposed to be chrysanthemum, but my nose reads it as tagetes/marigold, and it is tops on my wish list. Hope to hear more of your finds and adventures. Be well!

    • Patty says:

It would have been fun! I swear, one of these days we are going to do a Posse something – hmmm, maybe L.A. next spring?

Agree on De Profundis. every time I smell it, I fall in love with it all over again. It doesn’t get enough love, in my opinion. I think your marigold take is a lot of mine, little bitter. I keep wanting to say… “it is profound” which is goofy, but that’s the best word for it, it just sobers you up a little bit when you smell it, and you just turn inside.

  • nozknoz says:

Glad you and the blog are back!

Sniffa sounds fantastic – I must get my act together to attend next year.

  • DinaC says:

I’m so glad to see Posse back up and running this evening. Couldn’t get in earlier today, two times. 🙂 Wow, so excited for March and Anita that they won the basket!! Sounds like Sniffa was great. I’m looking forward to reviews and stories galore since I couldn’t go myself. Vicarious living, dontcha know!?! 🙂

    • Patty White says:

We’re kind of up and running! 🙂 We can’t get into the admin, but we like seeing the front page until we can! 🙂

I was so excited for them too. I never win anything so when someone around me wins someething, I get so stoked, it’s like providence at least knows my general direciton, just needs to correct the aim.

  • Eldarwen22 says:

Glad you had a good time. As much as I love Sarrasins and De Profundis and would love to have a bell jar, $300 is way too much. But I can content myself with decants. Right now, I’m wearing Joy in EDP form and loving it.
