smell bent sweet tyranny

I wrote earlier on PST that smell bent had decided to release a comic book, previewed on Vimeo. Well, they sent me an advance copy and it’s fun- even though my comic book days were left far back in the latter half of the 10th century. It’s kind of timely, considering the regulations; a rag-tag group of perfume freedom fighters have to save their city from the tyranny of a leader who has managed to ban all scents.

What came in the package was of greater interest- a sample of their new scent, called Sweet Tyranny. They describe it as their first “double-deluxe, ultra-premium scent” based around orris root and natural Indian sandalwood.

Notes for Sweet Tyranny (from the press release): orris root with fresh orange, incense, aged patchouli, Indian sandalwood, bourbon vanilla, vetiver and authoritarian musk.

I love authoritarian musk.

It is also the first scent under their name to break the “cheap as old chips” pricing structure, with a 2ml spray being $7, a 5ml roll-on being $15 and the 50ml EDP being $90. You can tell however that the money went into the juice here, however. The orris and sandalwood are the real deal and while I love a lot of the fun and cheeky originals, this is something that I could wear to an event where I’d have to dress up. As a matter of fact, I did get a couple of complements at a meeting I attended wearing it when I greeted a very stylish co-worker. I don’t find a lot of the other ingredients really that discernible; it’s a very well blended scent that doesn’t go for fireworks, just wants to feature it’s two stars. Lasting power is excellent, and it doesn’t have a lot of throw, which I personally think is a good thing.

Sweet Tyranny (and the comic book) will debut March 26th at smellbent.com. My copy of the comic and sample was provided by smell bent.

Even though I’m in my mid-50’s, I still love animation and comic books. Thanks for the post.

Nothing in this line has grabbed me enough to buy a FB but this one could be the first. Interesting — Smell Bent is evolving!

Tom — I love it! Smell Bent grows up and gets a little formal on us, or something like that. Must try this. Thanks!

Great post, Tom — even the typo (10th century) is perfect! 😉 I haven’t made a point (yet) of trying the Smell Bent line, but this scent sounds really nice.
