Baiser Volé EdP by Mathilde Laurent for Cartier 2011

Hey there Posse Peeps! Portia from Australian Perfume Junkies back to chat about a beautiful fragrant lady, Lily. Lily is famous for her Baiser Volé, or stolen kiss in English. She is soft, sinuous and lithe and will pull you from your lofty heights of goodness to her naughty lair.

Baiser Volé EdP by Cartier 2011

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Top: Lily, citrus
Heart: Lily
Base: Lily, green notes

The superstar here is of course lily. Mathilde Laurent wanted to tell the whole story of a lily, the whole cut plant in a vase. the flowers pistils, petals, leaves and some of the water that they sit in. Baiser Volé is sheer, fresh and airy but has a density and heft that is unexpected, the sillage is not strong but it changes the air as you walk past in a quiet way, inviting interest and questioning glances rather than exclamations. How they manage to keep the fragrance so linear with only nuances changing is beyond me, the story so perfectly told in such miniscule moves but the changes are felt and the idea complete.

From t-shirt to suit to gown, Baiser Volé can and will take you though all the events on your calendar. Only the most seriously frag phobic workplaces could ever complain but you will be fragrant and gorgeously so. If I was a signature scent kind of person this would be in my top 5 of easiest to wear, don’t need to think just spritz every day and night picks. Pretty enough for the young, sophisticated enough for the used to be young.

Baiser Volé is perfect for hot weather but surprisingly wears fabulously in the cool too. We are having 6 celcius nights and it is glorious to wear of an evening, or even to bed.

If ever a fragrance was to have a song linked to it then Baiser Volé should be it. what song?

The same cool rasp of silk shantung over skin, like the first sip of room temperature single malt scotch, Baiser Volé is both smooth, sophisticated, refined and slightly unfinished, a bit naughty. Like Mathilde Laurent knows all the things that good girls want to smell like and used them to make a fragrance for very, VERY, naughty girls.

FragranceNet starts at $44/30ml (but with 21% discount code DCRT3 only $35)
My Perfume Samples start at $2/ml with $7/5ml

Have you tried Baiser Volé? Do you have a few easy wear, think nothing of spritzing like crazy frags? What are they, and why?

I hope you’ve enjoyed today’s offering, if you have then why not come across and see us at Australian Perfume Junkies. We love visitors,
Portia xx

  • Musette says:

Hey, babydoll! Sorry to be so late to the party but Thursday was a bit hellish.

But I did want to say – I love the hell out of this frag and spitz it with abandon! It’s the only lily I can wear (most others go oily/musky/regrettable) – and it’s just so danged PRETTY!

I also spritz the living daylights out of Agraria Bitter Orange, which is my default mild weather cologne (extreme heat eats its lunch in about 3 minutes, so I don’t bother). I also spritz the heck out of Amouage Gold. And Carnal Flower.

Hey, go big or go home, right? 😉

    • We are on the same mega spritz page Musette. YOU are so danged pretty, BV is just a lily perfume. Though I must say in today’s 85F Sydney winter heat it was a perfect choice as I lay in the sun, the remnants of it were warmed back to wafting from the morning spritz. MMMM

  • Belle says:

You’ve just reminded me to look for a lily scent! Oh no, there goes my wallet!

  • Beth says:

I have a sample of the edt and the edp from a lovely SA. I’ll have to try them side by side because I’m not sure which of the two I wore, but I really enjoyed it. Now that I’m hearing about the extrait I’d like to try that too.

I’m a chronic undersprayer. In fact, I put on two big sprays of Coco today for my first wearing of it and it’s knocking me over, but in a good way. I go whole hog on Smellbent’s Sunshine, and always go over on Ormonde Jayne Woman because I love it so much and I think it’s quite impossible for anyone NOT to love it… I refuse to believe it! 1932 also get a bit of overspray because it fades so quickly on me.

  • Lavanya says:

I tried this recently and quite liked it. It is an easy wear! My easy to wear fragrances used to be Un Lys and Iris Poudre but these days I seem to be wearing CdG Champaca edt..It is very pretty yet doesn’t bore me, but is not at all demanding.

    • Portia says:

Sometimes Lavanya we just want to smell good for the best part of the day. I have a bunch of those frags. All the Aqua Allegoria by Guerlain, but you need something to spritz throughout the day, Bellodgia, Sun by Jil Sander, Relent by Etro and No 19, if the Jardin series lasted better they would be on the list too.

  • Ann says:

Howdy, Portia! I like this EDP but don’t love it as there’s something vaguely metallic in it that rubs me the wrong way. But as I mentioned above to Karin, the extrait (which she says is more green) sounds right up my street!

    • Portia says:

      Hey Ann,
Nice to read you, as always. I get the metallic bit too and it makes me smile, it’s like a sappy, green, astringent, metal, weird ass something. I wonder if Mathilde was trying to get that watery pewter smell of the big vases?
      Portia xx

      • Ann says:

Portia, you might be right about the vase — good thinking, Mr. Lincoln, as one of my co-workers sometimes says. But it still bugs me. Anything with a metallic-y tinge or too much oud just seems to erupt on my skin until it seems to be all I can smell and then I end up feeling a little queasy. Same with cumin. Isn’t that a shame? But no big deal, there are still so many wonderful other fish in the sea to wear. 🙂

        • karin says:

Hi Ann! Hmmm…not sure if the extrait has that metallic scent or not. Could it be galbanum? Wearing it yesterday, I got a bit of an ashtray vibe…and a vase water kinda thing, too. I will send you some to test!

I have the same issue you do with cumin! I don’t necessarily hate cumin, but if it’s in a fragrance, it eats up everything else, and it’s all I can smell!!! Ruins it for me.

          • Ann says:

Thanks, Karin, that is so sweet of you! I’m sorry, though, that you struggle with cumin, too. Although I have found that the touch of it in Bombay Bling is OK — or maybe I love that scent so much that that mentally (olfactorily?) overrides it.

          • karin says:

Oh, I wear and love Bombay Bling!!! 🙂

  • poodle says:

I have almost finished my bottle of this. I spritz heavily but I almost always spritz heavily. I really love this at night after a bath. It’s a great bedtime scent. Honestly I think that’s when I wear it most. I’d like to try the other variations of it.

    • Portia says:

      Hi there Poodle,
Yes, it is pretty for bed and the story is short enough that you don’t lie awake awaiting developments, yes I get it. The girls have revved me up to try some more too.
      Portia xx

  • ElizabethC says:

How does Baiser Volé compare with Un Lys? I adore Un Lys and have noticed lately that the scent just explodes when I get into our little toaster oven of a car.

    • Portia says:

      Hiya ElizabethC,
I think BV is Un Lys’ younger, shy, virgin sister.
White florals are best in stinking heat, like the tropics. I bet you get a big white floral punch ion the face when you get in,
      Portia x

  • leathermountain says:

    It’s purty.
Love, Chloe comes to mind. But it’s a rollerball, so I can’t spritz like anything.

  • karin says:

I have a bottle of the extrait de parfum, and just recently purchased a bottle of the new essence de parfum – said to be lily with bourbon vanilla! Love them both. The extrait is more green, the essence, more lush? I’ve worn the essence only once, but it feels like the easier one to wear of the two. I have some spray samples of the EDP, but don’t really remember it now. Haven’t tried the EDT. All in all, it’s a beautiful fragrance. Also, I love Mathilde Laurent, so always try whatever she creates!

  • Caroline says:

The edt version of BV is a really nice summery frag, and is somehow more lighthearted than the edp. Other scents that may be spritzed with abandon are Eau Premiere and Fresh’s Hesperides, ’cause they’re so uplifting & non-intrusive!

    • Portia says:

      WOW Caroline,
I find Eau Premier quite a big scent and I don’t know Hesperides but if it’s Fresh then it is probably very easy wear and understated, sometimes that’s all we want right?
I have the EdP but when the EdT came out I was very tempted

  • Jackie b says:

I’m reading Dionne’s comment and going, yes, tick, tick tick. I too reach for those when I want to fragrance myself, no dramas or large statements. But flowers in general make me cautious…have smelled too many meal destroying ones to be happy with lily!

    • Portia says:

Yes, though this is not Casablanca but very cool and quiet Asiatic lily. Soft enough for dinner, hefty enough for other things.
I do understand the fear though JackieB.
      Portia xx

  • Dionne says:

I tried Baiser Volé just this last week for the first time, and although it was exciting to finally find a lily I could wear (DK Gold and Lys Mediterranee were hot messes on me), BV just didn’t… move me. Pretty, but it didn’t rock my world. My own easy-to-wear frags would be irises like 28 LP, Id’I, and Equistrius, and Bottega Veneta – yup, me and Jin 🙂 – and Lumière Blanche

    • Portia says:

WOW! Bettega Veneta Dionne! GAWD! I love it so much. It’s so good that it’s Jin’s go-to scent because every time he comes near or walks past or anything that is his smell. When he goes to work in the morning I cuddle the Bottega Veneta scent in his pillow till it’s time for me to get up. If I had the bottle it would get worn once in a while, he has polished off a third of a bottle since Feb.
Yay though that you can wear a lily!! That is great news, you need to find out the aroma chemicals she used to make Baiser Volé.
      Lovely to see you,
      Portia xx

  • masha7 says:

I’ve heard from several SAs in Miami that they cannot keep this one in stock, it sells out before they’ve unpacked the box. It’s very popular and I smell it around quite a lot. I think it’s lovely; it is my 3rd favorite lily, after Gold and FM’s Lys Mediteranee.

    • Portia says:

I have FB of ALL your fave lilies masha7, we are scent sisters. I love GOLD because it’s so fabulously affordable that I can go crazy with it, same with Baiser Volé EdP. Lys Med. doesn’t get quite the same amount of skin time because I have a Travel Size.
      Portia xx

      • masha7 says:

Scent sisters with Portia, you made my weekend! I don’t know why Gold didn’t get more love in the blogosphere, but hey, that keeps the price down, so I can stock up.

        • YAY! We can rule the school now Scent Sister,
There are some GOLD lovers around, the problem is how fabulous quite a few of the Donna Karan frags are. GOLD is only great if you love a white flower but Chaos and Black Cashmere are for a wider audience, the prices are going up a bit now it’s gone from the shelves though. Do you like the EdT or EdP in it? I find the EdT lasts longer and has a bolder projection, do you?
          Portia x

  • ncmyers says:

I’m an undersprayer at heart. But I’ve heard such good things about Baiser, maybe it would make me change my ways. Can’t wait to try it!

    • Portia says:

You need to join Undersprayers Anonymous ncmyers. He He He, Baiser Volé EdP could indeed be the one to push you over the edge.

  • eldarwen22 says:

Tocca Giulietta is one perfume that I can spray with abandon and have nobody complain about it. I have very few in my stable that can do that and no 22 is probably the only other. My Amouages, Guerlains, and the rest of my Chanels can’t do that. No 22 and Giulietta are just that light where I can get away with it. I have never tried Baiser Vole.

    • Portia says:

I have samples/decants of both of your spritz like crazy frags but can’t honestly remember their scent, I will dig them out again eldarwen22 and compare.
Baiser Volé EdP is not a MUST SMELL frag but if you like lily and want to know one of the purest then this is a good start.
