SONY DSCWell, this started out as a review. I got some freebies for attending the ScentBar Valentines bash and was eagerly awaiting smelling them when I got a cold.

Not even a huge one mind you, no dramatic fever or hacking cough. Just a slightly deeper voice, a nose that is running like a fountain and a sense of smell that’s pretty screwed up. So I am not sure if I am really smelling what I am smelling. Ergo, no review this week.

Unless you’d like a review of Vicks Vapo-Rub.

Having you’re nose, as it were, kurt of joint is an interesting experience that I would be very upset to have made permanent. I have enjoyed this little perfume hobby of mine for nigh unto 40 years now (which is amazing since I am 29 years of age) and a total loss of it would be a bad thing. Not as bad as losing sight or a limb, but not fun. Oddly I was talking to someone who knows someone who had exactly that happen. She was a gourmet cook, but without a sense of smell her sense of taste was affected and food really doesn’t interest her anymore. She also said that there are dangers inherent as well- she can’t smell smoke, so she can’t smell if something in the kitchen is burning.

I’ll be very pleased when the schnoz is back in working order. In the mean time, please tell us what you’ve been sniffing this week and I can live vicariously..

Hope you are getting better now. I have to say, I’m kinda interested in your review of Vicks Vapo-Rub… 😀

I got a sample of Philosphy Loveswept (philosophy loveswept?) for my mother. It has a pretty bottle, and she used to be addicted to Loveswept romance novels. I thought it smelled mildly unpleasant, and although she loved the name, my mother didn’t care for it either.

I really hate getting a cold. Really hate it. Knock on wood, I have made it to February without catching one yet. I’m hoping I can fight them all off this season. I hope yours doesn’t last long.
This week I’m enjoying two more blind buys which I just cannot seem to stop myself from doing. I got PdN Vanille Tonka and SL La Fille de Berlin. I got lucky again because I love them both.

  • Get Well Tom,
I am wafting some slightly vintage Shalimar EdP. It’s good.

Poor thing — I feel your pain; having a cold is no fun for anyone, but especially awful for perfume lovers. Feel better very soon! I’ve been on a bit of an amber kick, pulling out some old and new samples and seeing which ones to keep and which to donate.

Oh no! That’s terrible news, especially on the one day everything smells and tastes delicious (whether you’re single or taken). Well, today my husband surprised me in bed with strawberry french toast, eggs sunny side up and bacon. The whole house had an aroma to die for. Then, he gave me one rose along with a perfume called West Side by Bond No 9. I sprayed that all over me before work and I smell magical. It’s lasted all day too! Hope you feel better and hopefully you’ll be able to smell something delicious soon enough!

So sorry to hear you have a cold. I really sympathize since I’ve had two colds this winter. One of them was a nose-running-like-a-faucet kind, and the other was a painful-sore-throat kind. Mucinex, hot tea and naps are what helped me. Get well soon.

I’ve been enjoying Neela Vermeire’s Ashoka recently. It’s a great unisex earthy oriental with some green notes, iris, rose. This one develops on my skin and smells good hours after I’ve applied it. Today I’m enjoying a gift from my DH for Valentine’s day: VC&A Bois d’Iris. I’ve wanted this for five years now. Such a nice woody iris with some salt and ambergris. Reminds me of driftwood on a beach on a bright, windy day.

Happy Valentine’s Day! Hope you’re feeling better soon.

I’ve been pretty flush with samples lately. I got a bunch from Sephora with an order, so they’re mostly mainstream frags I haven’t gotten around to sniffing. I’ve liked I Love New York Holidays, Nirvana Black, La Vie Est Belle, and Gucci Premier; was indifferent to Gucci Guilty Black, Mon Jasmin Noir, Tocca Cleopatra; HATE Nirvana White and 1 Million.

I have been sniffing everything this week! But I just got my lovely carded samples from Imaginary Authors last night, and I will be sniffing those all day!

Feel better soon! I am hopefully just getting over a similar ailment, and the upside of it is that you do appreciate your nose a million times more when it is all over. The first day I thought I might have a peek at sniffing things, I lavishly sprayed myself in vintage Shalimar, and later that day I put on Bombay Bling with some Timbuktu. I have a lot of sniffing to make up for…

You poor thing, not nice to be cut off from smell and taste!
I, on the other hand, have been rather stinky this week. A sample of Lutens La Myrrhe arrived today and I am currently enjoying the drydown which is a little lemon-resiny.
Rose Velours was also on rotation, and I loved it for half an hour, then I just enjoyed it without the credit card trying to escape the wallet!
As for you Tom, steam that bowl of eucalyptus oil. Frankincense is good for mucous too…
