Tom Ford Patchouli Absolu review

Tom Ford Patchouli Absolu released in fall 2014, and it is a Tom Ford Love Letter to Patchouli.

Tom Ford Patchouli Absolu review

It is sharp, earthy and fairly prickles the nose with all that dry patch.  I’m not a patchouli lover – hey, I think Le Labo Patchouli 24 is how patchouli in my mind should smell, which really isn’t even like patchouli, it’s like birch and smoke – so this had no hope of becoming something I would fall strongly in like with, not to mention love.  I’m trying to remember the first patchouli Ford did, Purple Patchouli. I didn’t love that either, and I think this improves on it for me. It doesn’t feel like as much of a mess.  But it is austere patchouli.  If you love patchouli, you might want to give it a try.  Kafkaesque reviewed it and is a patch lover and did not love it that much.  So, you know?  Follow the link anyway for a really nice post about patchouli and where it gets used and why.

Notes for Tom Ford Patchouli Absolu are  Bay leaf, rosemary, moss, patchouli oil, patchouli coeur, patchouli Clearwood, guaic wood, cypriol, violetwood, cashmere woods, tonka bean, amber, musks, and leather.

Short review today, it’s training week, which leaves me almost no time to breathe. Thanks so much for all the advice on my arm/back/shoulder injury. It is slowly healing and is not causing me as much angst/pain as it was. It’s not back where I want it to be, but it improves daily.

The fun thing about it is I took one weekend and just relaxed into babying it with a “Walking Dead” marathon in anticipation of the season premier Sunday night. So Walking Deadheads, was that crazy or what?  The trough scene was one of the best ever, as was the reunion scene at the end of the episode. Just when I think they don’t have anywhere to go and will start repeating, they find a new way to keep me watching.  Anyone else?

So I’ll give away four samples of Tom Ford Patchouli Absolu to four commenters.  Favorite Tom ford, if you have one, or tell me if you loved Walking Dead this week or if you’ve ever watched it or just avoid the whole mess?

  • Jill says:

I love both patch and the walking dead! Daryl… *swoon*. I have only tried a few TF and haven’t fallen in love with any yet…I’m thinking if I were going to be head over heels for one it would be this, tobacco vanille, or his oud. Would love to try any of them!

  • Ashley A says:

My favorite TF is Shanghai Lily. I love it in the fall, and would love it if a FB magically appeared on my doorstep. As for the Walking Dead, I watched the first few seasons and loved it but no longer have cable. I did read the comics for a long time as well, which were pretty excellent, but have also fallen off of those. I think they’re finished now, too!

  • Ann says:

Hiya, Patty! So glad your shoulder is improving and you’re feeling better. My fave Tom Fords are Shanghai Lily, Japan Noir, Noir de Noir and (maybe) the newish Velvet Orchid. I’m ashamed to say I’ve never watched “The Walking Dead,” which is a double shame, because they film not too far from where I live. But with teen issues to deal with it, just can’t seem to get to it, ha!

  • Nemo says:

My favorite Tom Ford is Tuscan Leather, though I also like Black Orchid (I just haven’t found many occasions to wear it). I am very glad to hear your shoulder and back are improving!

  • I have unfortunately never smelled a Tom Ford though I’ve heard enough about Black Orchid to want to try it! As for the Walking Dead – I haven’t seen the show but my hubby and I play the computer game together. We’re halfway through season 2. It’s pretty fun – you can make a lot of decisions which affect the outcome of the game, and it can be a bit dark and scary at times too. 🙂 Thanks for the draw!

  • AnnieA says:

Favourite TF is Tuscan leather and favourite patchouli (besides the not-really Labo) is ELO Nombril Immsense.

  • Jaime says:

Hi P, Glad your shoulder pain is going down. I’ve never watched Walking Dead…but it has still taught me that one must chop off the head to properly exterminate zombies, right?

My favourite TF’s are Plum Japonais (a gourmand scent that’s *not* vanilla-based!), Black Orchid, and Violet Blond. I love patch and have been stalking various online reviews — thanks for hosting the giveaway.

  • kizzers says:

My fave TF’s are Shanghai Lily, Violet Blonde and Tobacco Vanille. I have not succumbed to Walking Dead yet – I have a stroppy teenage daughter who does a remarkable impression of a killer zombie when awoken from her slumber, does that count? Thanks for the draw 🙂

  • Cynthia Mc says:

I’m so glad to hear your recovery is going well. There’s a lot to be said for steady improvement.
I’m a big Walking Dead fan too. And as far as Tom Ford goes, my favorite is still Neroli Portofino.
    Thanks for the draw.

  • allgirlmafia says:

Thank you for the draw, my favorite. Tom Ford is Violet Blonde. I tried Black Orchid but it simply did not suit me.

  • FeralJasmine says:

Favorite Tom Ford is Velvet Gardenia, followed by Noir de Noir and Shanghai Lily. Take care of yourself.

  • Tatiana says:

Walking Dead? What’s that? I was vaguely aware of it, but missed the whole thing. I’m pretty sure it’s the kind of show my DH would roll his eyes at me for wanting to watch it. Favorite Tom Ford is Noir de Noir.
I have no advice for your shoulder. I’m finding that I take a lot longer to heal/mend than I used to. I hope your shoulder feels better very soon.

  • My favorite Tom Fords are Violet Blonde, Tobacco Vanille and Shanghai Lily. I’m a big Walking Dead fan. I read the comic books too, though I’m way behind on the books. The premiere was a great episode so I’m excited to see where this season goes.

  • Hi Patty, glad to hear your shoulder is improving! I like Black Orchid very much and White Patchouli too. The Walking Dead thing…I don’t get it. Just too grim for me, I guess. I would love to try the Patchouli Absolu. Take care…

  • rosarita says:

Black Orchid is my favorite Tom Ford. I prefer the Signature line but I am a patchouli lover and want to try them all.

  • Not sure if this draw if for the EU people but anyway I love patchouli. My favourite is Borneo 1834 and for Tom Ford I actually only have one – Black Orchid which I love and a decant of Plum Japonaise that I like but I prefer Mon Parfum Cheri (Annick Goutal) which is a stronger plum + iris + patchouli. And I’m going to check out Walking Dead as Netflix has just come to France and I’m having a massive catchup on TV.

  • Donna S says:

    Hi Patty

Glad you feeling better (on the way).

I like Tom Ford Velvet Orchid. It’s got a real yummy sweet but not too for me and it works well. Favorite Patch? None that come to mind. I’ve sampled Dolce & Gabbana’s velvet collection Patchouli which was my fav in the collection but the frag didn’t do much. I would like to try this one. I hope I’m lucky!!!

  • Neva says:

I like TF Plum Japonaise, but I’ve never watched Walking Dead. There are far too many zombies walking around in real life… 😀

  • solanace says:

Shangai Lilly is just beautiful. And I have’t watched Walkind Dead, but maybe I should…

  • Elia says:

My favourite TF is Azure Lime.
I sat through the whole of the first season of Walking Dead with my brother, we were both bored senseless…!

  • P says:

Never tried Tom Ford perfume, no TF counter where I live. I watch anything with zombies!

  • Irina says:

my favorite TF is Sahara Noir
    so glad you’re better

  • KimB says:

Shanghai Lily – it’s the only Tom Ford I like other than Amber Absolute which I think was discontinued
would love to try the patchouli since i like patchouli and keep hoping I will love another Tom ford
Just couldn’t get into Walking Dead but glad you enjoyed your marathon and that your shoulder is better

  • Ellen says:

My favorite Tom Ford is Ambre Absolu, followed closely by Black Orchid and Sahara Noir. Love Walking Dead. I’m glad you’re better.

  • Maya says:

I love patchouli! I prefer it when it’s not straight-up raw, but when it’s a bit mellowed. I have been avoiding Walking Dead – don’t want to get hooked right now.

  • Diana says:

My favorite Tom Ford is Black Orchid, although I love dousing tester strips with the Santal Blush and putting them in my car to make it smell lovely. Re: Walking Dead–I’ve seen a few of the earlier episodes, but I don’t watch TV as a rule. I like to wait until a series has released a few seasons and then have a viewing party. I plan to start the Walking Dead series soon, if no other reason than the Ebola stuff has me thinking what a different world it might be if……

  • Artist says:

My favorite Tom Fords are Shanghai Lily!!!! and White Suede Musk!!!!! I flirt with Walking Dead….watch it for awhile and then give it up…..I’m more of a Homeland sort but after I type this I’ll go watch the Walking Dead season premiere on demand…..just so I know what everyone is oohing and ahhing about. Thanks!

  • Rincoglionita says:

The only Tom Ford I own is Black Orchid, and I love it. I dig patchouli frags but not straight up patch, so I have a feeling this is right up my alley. I will never ever never ever watch Walking Dead. Ever. I’m scared of Scooby Doo, and that’s no exaggeration!

  • hajusuuri says:

Thanks for the draw. My favorite Tom Fords are: Violet Blonde and Tobacco Vanille. I have never watched Walking Dead and don’t want to start or I may get hooked.
