Hey Hey POSEEEE! Portia from AustralianPerfumeJunkies and today we are going BACK! Way back. It’s 1998. Rose d’Ete is released by Les Parfums de Rosine and it has that lovely aquatic vibe that is coming back into fashion lately. Interesting how fashion turns full circle, imagine 15 years ago telling people that almost every man would have a dirty great beard in 2014! No one would have believed you.

Granny Smith apples are something we grew up with here in Sydney, Granny Smith herself lived 2 suburbs away and every year they have a festival in her honour. That crisp bittersweet zing, even now, has my mouth watering and my lips puckering in memory. A Pavlov response if ever there was one. Another fabulous rose memory I carry in my heart and nose is my Mum’s favourite rose, well favourite after Mr Lincoln, a yellow rose called Freesia. We had them in the front yard and as her favourite flower colour was yellow and it was SO fragrant and full of bloom we spent a lot of time tending to it.
What do those two stories have to do with anything?

In Rose d`Ete, we are greeted at the outset by a lovely crisp Granny Smith apple burst. It’s sweet and tart and juicy. When people say mouth watering I often think they are overstating the case for dynamic theatrical engagement but here I have a mouth that’s watering ferociously. It’s a totally fun open and I love that snap & zing, great memories with Granny Smiths and also I can smell the idea of cool glass of water nearby. A refreshing chill behind the apple, very nice. Then the fragrance sweetens and the rose flows through, a sweet fruity rose that shimmers prettily. Not the glacé fruit of my memory of a Freesia rose but a sugared, candy fruit version. If a yellow rose is for friendship then Rose d`Ete is a really fun friend.

The story doesn’t go much further, and a cool glass of water stays very pretty and sweet. I think that some of the ingredients are available commonly because through the heart of the fragrance I keep getting reminders of some of the hugely mass produced floral fruity stuff. Though this was not the run of the mill in 1998 I think it has become a little generic.
Not bad. Really, not bad at all. To be honest I like Rose d`Ete and would think it a wonderful fragrance for someone young or youthful, someone who is still light in their heart. Someone who would be thrilled with a bunch of yellow roses, the ones that mean friendship. I will wear Rose d`Ete a few times more, I wonder if it would be a fabulous reminder of warm weather fragrance in the dead of winter? Maybe Rose d`Ete could be the joys of summer in a spritz.

Rose d’Ete is my favorite of the Rosine line as well, though I like several of them. I have often wondered if I love it best because yellow roses are my favorite? When I was a child we had several rosebushes in our yard – some enormous pink bushes that repeat-flowered, the Mr. Lincoln ones my mother loved – the bushes were ugly in themselves, long leggy things that were anything but welcoming. And then there was the yellow one I loved because the roses, which got blowsy and faded to cream very quickly, smelled so deliciously good. Never knew the name of that rose.
Perfumes: The Guide says that Rose d’Ete is a more powdery version of Tommy Girl. Well, okay. I like Tommy Girl too, but that one is, I think, more synthetic and sharper-edged, where Rose d’Ete is, as you say, *friendly.* It’s certainly softer and more natural-smelling as well.

I have no recollection of TommyGirl through Rose d’Ete but I will need to revisit.

I like a lot of the Rosines and how they are light (no trouble with staying power on me), and Rose d’Ete is the one I like best. Yellow is my favorite color, so I guess that also make this one a good choice for me.

I am a Big Ol’ Rose Ho, but have never sampled a Rosine yet, can you believe it?? I think I get overwhelmed by the sheer number of fragrances they have. Plus, I like my roses quite rosy and lush, and the French ones always seem a bit light and airy to me, so I have prejudged them unfairly, perhaps.
They have done something to my beloved Granny over here.. haven’t had a good one in years. It’s like they aren’t ripe.
And can I just say that I am crushed y’all started having these Scent Bar meetups a year after I left SoCal! 😛 And right around my birthday, no less!
Fair call on the range size Tammy, it is a quite large one. I think Kashmir is my favourite followed by d’Ete so far. The generic-ness fades as you become more acquainted with d’Ete and it does bloom beautifully.

I was excited to read your review of Rose d’Eté because this, quite surprisingly, turned out to be my absolute favorite from the Rosine sample set. I love the fun opening with a happy yellow rose and an apple that does not smell like shampoo, but the sexy musk dry down is the reason I want a FB of this stuff.

I am really happy to see some love for the Rosine line. I love their scents and have only come across a couple in the line that didn’t work 100% on my skin, very lucky. Rose d’Ete is lovely, the more I wear it the more I like it.
