Mohur by Neela Vermeire Creations 2011

Hey Posse! Portia from Australian Perfume Junkies thrilled to be with you all today. I hope life is treating you all well. Mohur has been a constant in my fragrance wardrobe since first discovering it and Neela is one of my mates. When we talk about Top 3 Deserted Island Perfumes Mohur is always in my list beside Shalimar. There is something so me about Mohur, as if Neela made it with what I would love in a fragrance in mind.

Mohur by Bertrand Duchaufour for Neela Vermeire Creations 2011

Fragrantica, LuckyScent and Neela Vermeire Creations give these melded accords:
Top: Cardamom, coriander, ambrette (musk mallow), carrot seeds, black pepper, elemi oil
Heart: Turkish rose oil, Moroccan Rose Absolute (rose accords around 11%),  jasmine, iris/orris, aubepin (midland hawthorn), almond milk accord, leather, violet
Base: Sandalwood, amber, patchouli, oudh Palao from Laos, benzoin, vanilla, tonka bean

Mohur! Ahhhhhhhh. Spritzing is like coming home. The main player rose is a constant through the life of every Mohur wearing but on some days it will be vanilla heavy, another day I will notice the herbaceousness and on others it will feel like an iris, pepper, patchouli, sandalwood or almond fragrance. Even the rose facets will be slightly different, boozy, citric, fruity or tea-ish depending on the day, it’s heat or humidity and probably my own mood and diet. Neela & Bertrand have mixed large amounts of naturals in with the synthetics and that gives everything a real chance to interact with your chemistry and makes it a chameleon, chock full of surprises every time.

Rose stays all the way through my wear but the base becomes a creamy, warm, enveloping hug of amber and woods. The ride is amazingly complex and if you have time to sit down and enjoy it in a relaxed way you’ll get to follow the amazing growth. If though you wear Mohur in a day to day work, eat or play situation the ride is smooth and elegant, a rose amber and lightest oud combo that will blow you and anyone in your vicinity away.

Neela Vermeire Creations has an excellent set of 8ml samples of the whole range
LuckyScent has Mohur EdP $235/60ml
LuckyScent has Mohur Extrait $445/50ml

Have you tried Mohur? Any of the Neela Vermeire Creations? Which is your fave?

Wellll I wish I wasn’t one of the few who didn’t get along with Mohur buuuuht I am. I don’t get along with ANY ‘spicy rose’ though. They’re too much. And believe me, I’ve tried and will continue to try. The only one I really liked is Ormonde Jayne Ta’if.
I do like a crisp rose soliflore or light blended rose. So it’s not the rose, it’s the patchouli and spices that seem to take over. And I will not be taken over! ????
That’s great that Neela is both a perfumer and friend to share in your love of Mohur!

I also love Mohur but don’t know why! It is so hard to pin down and give it a category. I also really like Ashoka, nice in our hot weather. I wish I could test Mohur Extrait but NV is not available in this hemisphere!

  • Gigi says:

LOVE Mohur. I am happy to have a fb of this and it gets a lot of skin time. I’m excited to be in on a split of the extrait, too, and I can’t wait to try it in that format (though I’m secretly hoping it won’t be much different from the EDP so I won’t have to regret not having it). If anyone out there could chime in if you’ve tried both, let me know what you think.
I like Trayee almost as much, and Bombay Bling is lovely too, if not quite “me”.
Ashoka didn’t really work for me, but I hope to try Pichola sometime soon.

I adore Mohur. I have all five of Neela Vermiere’s fragrances, all of which I really like but Mohur and Trayee are outstanding.

  • Janice says:

What a coincidence, I am wearing Mohur today. It is definitely a chameleon. I love it.

  • Jenny Katz says:

You know, I got a sample of Mohur a few weeks ago, have worn it twice, and both times it has been not quite, but almost, a scrubber on me! I haven’t figured out the problem yet—it’s a sour-sweet powdery effect, like nougat made out of talc. That’s gone bad. (I quite like pastry and nougat scents, generally, but powder doesn’t agree with me.) I want to train myself into liking it… but I think I might not. So, if anybody wants a sample, I have one to send! (The only other NV I’ve tried is Ashoka, which I loved.)

  • Maureen says:

I had a sample of Mohur, and dared to wear it in work. Loved it, very rosy and classy .

  • Alison says:

I just bought a full bottle of Neela Vermeire’s Pichola as a reward for a project well completed. It is a Big White Floral on me, but with darker undernotes of spice and wood. On some days I also get a note i can only describe as tangy or medicinal, who knows? Like Mohur, never boring. On me it reminds me a lot of Lutens’ Tubereuse Criminelle, with the addition of the tangy thing.

One thing I learned quickly – this is Strong! I put one spray on the day I bought it and it clung for about 3 days. YMMV but that’s what happened in cold DC.

  • eldarwen22 says:

Never got around to trying any of Neela Vermeire’s perfumes. I’m hoping that I will get to but I’ve made the commitment to start on my unworn bag of decants. I did make some progress of pitching some of the decants in my bag.

  • Neva says:

Unfortunately I was not able to try any of Neela Vermeire’s perfumes. Hah, this could l be my wish for the next perfume fairy event…
I went to NV page and looked up the sample set. It seems that it only contains 4 selected samples: Trayee, Mohur, Bombay Bling and Ashoka. Such a pity, I read about Pichola the other day on APJ and fell in love with the feeling it evokes so I wanted to try it first.

  • Ann says:

Howdy, Portia dear! Mohur — what a yummy treat to wake up to on the Posse! I’m not the biggest rose fan on the planet, but this, with its wonderful spices and other good stuff, is to die for. Thanks for the reminder to wear it, and also to pull out my little scrap of the parfum and enjoy it as well. Hugs …

  • Koyel says:

Ahhhh I love it! It was my Tuesday SOTD, and I couldn’t stop sniffing myself. I plan to get the 8-mL sample set one day as a reward for having done something worth rewarding. I’ve tried Trayee, too, which I also found gorgeous but in a less unusual way. I’ve never seen NV in stores, though, so I haven’t gotten to try the others!

  • Nemo says:

Love love LOOOVE Mohur!! It is so wonderfully scrumptious and never boring, but won’t offend anyone either. How is that possible? 🙂
