Jo Malone Rare Teas – New Fragrance Release 2016

Jo Malone Rare Teas is the Jo Malone entry into the mega size bottle -= 175 mls for $340 (memory, but that’s close).  This is a great idea for Jo Malone and a missing hole in their line that has now been plugged with mondo bottles and some very nice tea fragrances.

  • Darjeeling Tea – black tea, jasmine, freesia and davana.  Leaning to a floral jasmine tea and more smoky than some of the others, darker owing to the black tea. None of these are the dark, chuffing tea that leaves black smokiness in its wake, but this is the most dark of the six.  I also really liked this
  • Golden Needle Tea  – Yunnan tea buds, leather, spices, sandalwood and benzoin.  I liked this one a lot because it was an interesting mix of notes that played differently than I normally expect from a tea fragrance.  Mixing in a light leather, incense and spices with tea is pretty brilliant.  It’s not a heavy leather or incense, it’s just this beautiful light touch of leather.
  • Jade Leaf Tea – sencha tea, sesame seeds, pomelo and frankincense. Brighter because of the pomelo, but, again, an interesting use of notes around tea.  While it wasn’t a favorite, I really liked it a lot because it kept my interest with the sesame-seeded incense.
  • Midnight Leaf Tea – pu-erh tea, vanilla, labdanum and guaiac wood.  My absolute favorite of the bunch.  It’s not as dark and smoky as you might think, it’s more like a gourmand tea – think tea with a dab of vanilla and incense floating around in it. Not sweet, just perfect
  • Oolong Tea – oolong, bitter cocoa, tobacco leaf and tonka bean.  Another big favorite of this group.  Leans gourmand, the cocoa and tobacco leaf pull it back from being sweet, though, and it ends up being so rich and a thing to lose yourself in.  This wound up being my very favorite (it took me to getting to the end of writing it to declare it so!).  Oolong is so gorgeous, and it makes me deliriously happy.
  • Silver Needle Tea – white tea, bergamot and rose.  A very light tea fragrance with a lovely rose note (reminds me of the Lancome rose, can’t remember the name, the blue one).  Soft, a little citrus tea rose.

My conclusion about the Jo Malone Rare Teas – this was so fun. Mix, match, enjoy and roll around in all the tea loveliness.  Some were more favored than others, but I really did like all of them.  If you prefer your teas gourmand, you’ll find a couple to really love. If you like a floral tea, there’s a couple that are perfect.  I thought this collection was really well done.

No bathroom pictures yet. It’s done!  But I have the finishing touches – painting the primed walls, getting the rugs and new towels, getting mirrors cut and up, etc., so I want to save the big reveal for the complete finish.

Winners of the Prada Olfactories (two samples) – Vanie, Sherobin, and Katherine (first commenter on that post, if there is more than one katherine that comments). Just click on Drop Us a Note at the top, send me an e-mail, remind me of what you won and get me your mailing address. I’ll send you a quick e-mail to let you know I got your e-mail and it didn’t land in a spam filter and then get it on the way to you.

So if you had to pick just one Jo Malone Rare Tea to try, which would it be?  I’ll do a giveaway to two commenters a sample set of all six of the Jo Malone Rare Teas.

  • J. Tong says:

They all sound intriguing…but my pick would probably be Midnight Leaf. I find puerh tea sooo incredibly smokey and quite difficult to drink, but as a perfume note, I’m more interested! …maybe in a Bvlgari Black sort of way.

  • Rosie says:

I’ve tried quiet a few tea fragrances but haven’t fallen in love with any of them yet. Maybe this Jo Malone series (which all sound delicious!) will change that.

  • katrin says:

All of them sound so good! But since I’m going through a rose phase I’d be particularly interested in Slver Needle tea. The second would be Darjeeling, well, just because I like jasmine and the Darjeeling tea!

  • R_UN says:

Wow, they all sound much better than I expected. I’ m going to say Midnight Leaf is my pick for the guaiac!

  • Laura B says:

Oh, these tea fragrances sound delicious (especially since we’ve had a constant drizzle for the past week here in Dallas and I’m blowing through my huge tea stash). I’m a gourmand lover but I’ve never tried anything of the tea variety. Midnight Leaf & Oolong would be my favs I think!

  • AnnieA says:

    A vote for Silver Needle!

  • CbSutcliffe says:

Hard to say which one since they all sound appealing, but I’ll go with Darjeeling and then hope I get to try them all!

  • Kandice says:

I think I would most like to try the Darjeeling Tea, but they all sound lovely. Will have to check these out next time I’m in NM. Thanks for the draw!

  • HeidiC says:

Thanks for the giveaway! The Golden Needle one sounds intriguing — I love leather scents, and leather with tea? Fuhgeddaboudit! I’m also a fan of jasmine with tobacco, so I’d love to smell the combination of jasmine and smoky tea in the Darjeeling. These sound fun — I’ll have to check out the line!

  • Bridget B says:

I thinking would very much like to bath in the Midnight Leaf! I am a vanilla and guaic wood super fan! Thank so much for entry into the draw! I would be honored to try all of these!

  • Nemo says:

Many of these sound wonderful, but if I had to just pick one it would be the golden needle tea. I’ve been on the lookout for a light incense, and the hint of leather sounds great too. Thank you for the reviews and giveaway!

  • lisaindenver says:

I’m a tea and a tea fragrance fanatic, so all of these intrigue me. Because I love me some dark, smoky tea, I would initially have said that the Darjeeling would be highest on my must-try list, but your mention of a freesia note stops me in my tracks, as it is almost always a spoiler note on my skin. If I had to choose just one, I would probably go with Midnight Leaf, as it would be hard to go wrong with the trifecta of labdanum, vanilla and guiac accent notes. Sounds heavenly! I will definitely endeavor to try them all, although the price point makes me think that I shouldn’t.

Looking forward to the big bathroom reveal!

  • Solntse says:

descriptions are very interesting. very tempted to try jade tea and silver needle one.

  • chanelle says:

the Oolong tea would be the one for me, I love gourmand scents and aynthing that with notes o cocoa. Thanks for the giveaway!

  • jackie b says:

Lovely idea for a new range of scents, Oolong sounds like something I would wear. Is it really not coming to Aus?

  • Ingeborg says:

I think the Golden Needle sounds great,if the leather is subtle. I have only tried a few JM scents, without much luck. One I liked didn’t last on skin and another had too much flowers. Usually I really like tea scents, even if few give a realistic tea scent.

  • Millicent says:

Thanks for the draw! Midnight Leaf sounds most interesting to me, but you make all of them sound worth trying.

  • Maureen says:

I think I would like the Oolong and Silver Needle, although I probably would like all of them. I have only ever tried 2 Jo Malone scents, and really liked both. I love tea, drink at least 10 cups a day. I do drink decaf ones after 4. I love breakfast teas, and used to collect small tea pots. Thanks for the drawing.

  • SamanthaL says:

Based on the notes I’d say the one most up my alley and the one I’d most like to try is the Midnight Leaf Tea…it sounds lovely. I’m glad you posted this today, I was searching these out just yesterday and couldn’t find too much by way of review for them other than the ad copy! The Darjeeling and Golden Needle sound interesting as well…I love tea fragrances though, probably my favorite.

  • patuxxa says:

I’m reasonably certain Darjeeling would be my favorite; I adore a dark, smoky tea. L’Artisan’s Tea For Two is one of my favorite fragrances so this whole line is definitely catnip to me. Sadly the price point is a little out of my range…

  • Judith Halperin says:

They all sound fetching and I would love to try each! Thanks for the review and opportunity!

  • Sapphire says:

I want to smell all of these. Badly. But the Oolong one is the one that sounds like one I could really wear. thanks for the drawing!

  • Civet says:

    Golden needle sounds wonderful!

  • Lemoncake says:

I was somewhat skeptical when I first heard about this release but your descriptions are making me want to try all of them. The Oolong intrigues me the most. Thanks for the draw!

  • Deb says:

What was the persistence and sillage like on these?

  • Deb says:

It would have to be the Midnight Leaf Tea. These all sound so great!

  • Sherry B. says:

Oh, I forgot to pick one fragrance! I love leather notes (most of what I have been exploring!) so I would probably choose Golden Needle first.Sorry for making two posts.

  • Sherry B. says:

i’ve never really tried a tea scent, to my knowledge, but I am very curious about what they would smell like. Slowly making my way through samples of great perfumes from STC and I am rather new to the world of good perfumes! Thank you for the chance to try them.

  • Koyel says:

These sound fabulous! The oolong, I think, or maybe the Darjeeling. So hard to decide, though. They all sound delicious.

    And hooray almost-finished bathroom!!!

  • caseymaureen says:

Golden Needle, I really like the idea of the tea and light leather combination

  • Mariann says:

I want to try the Oolong. I’m having a bit of an oolong momemt and that would tie two loves, tea and perfume together nicely. I loved several of the Herbal Collection and adore Mimosa, so I’m keen to see what they do with tea.

  • flowergirlbee! says:

thanks for the giveaway.the jo malone stores here aren’t going to stock this.oolong tea is the one i would most like to smell.tobacco, oolong tea and cocoa sounds really interesting.

  • Laurels says:

Both your very favorite and your absolute favorite sound wonderful, but if I can only pick one, I’ll go with the Oolong. I like a perfume you can lose yourself in.

  • Oh wow, these sounds great. I’d love to try jade leaf (sesame and pomelo are two of my most favorite things, ever) and darjeeling (I’m a sucker for freesia, especially realistic freesia).

  • Gigi says:

Congrats on the bathroom reno being mostly done. I’m green with envy for that bathtub!
Of the tea series, I think I might like the Oolong but the Midnight Leaf Tea also sounds intriguing!

  • Angela says:

Oh I would want to try the Oolong and Midnight leaf tea. I love gourmands and vanilla so this one sounds like it would be my fav! Thanks for the giveaway!

  • Jessica says:

If I had to pick just one I’d pick Midnight Leaf Tea, I’m a vanilla addict and a gourmand tea sounds right up my alley! They all sound very interesting though! Thank you for another great giveaway!

  • Tena says:

I cannot wait to get my nose on these. JM scents last forever on me, and tea notes are a favourite. The Golden Needle scents sounds perfect for me; tea and leather.

Thank you for the draw. Cannot wait to see the completed bath.

  • mikasminion says:

I think I might like the Midnight Leaf best, but love dewy roses too so perhaps Silver Needle. They all sound very nice for hot weather, which we have quite a lot of. Sadly, I don’t need 175ml of anything, especially at that price point, but I still want to sample them. I’ve been mentally plugging my ears and shouting “la, la, la” whenever they’re mentioned but I can’t pass up the chance for a sniff.

  • I’ve been eyeing these…and I suspect coming into summer I’d pick Silver Needle for the warm weather! Thanks!

  • Rincoglionita says:

Man, those all sound divine! I’d be hard-pressed to choose one, but the Midnight Leaf sounds perfect! Thanks for the giveaway!

  • Sun Mi says:

Oh these do sound so fun! I am still unsure how I feel about tea in fragrance, though I was recently intrigued by my sampling of Philtre Ceylon by Atelier. If I had to pick just one to try, I would try Jade Leaf Tea, because of the sesame seed note! How unique! I love sesame, and use sesame and sesame oil prevalently in my cooking (a lot of Korean influence there) – so I’m so curious how it translates into perfume! Thanks for the rundown on all of these!
