It’s a good thing that tomorrow is national Donut day. It’s been another nutsy week here, and my Thursday dinner of fried wontons and Pho just didn’t do it. But I did notice that the sign on my local donut emporium (Tasty Donuts and Coffee) reminding me that in the USA, Friday is donut day.
Now I do not pretend to be a connoisseur of them: Growing up my neighbor Mrs.Campbell would make sure us Pease kids had at least two of her delicious cider donut with a big glass of milk. (Is there anything than adults buying us off with sweets? We’d happily mow their lawns for those donuts while we’d dig a ditch for some of Mrs. Newhall’s raspberry turnovers.)
Anyway, back to donuts. Atkins Farms in Amhers, MA makes very good cider ones and ships. I’m to a big fan of Krispy Kreme: I find their spun-sugar cotton-candy texture cloying. I’ve never been to local legend Randy’s donuts down by the airport (pictured) and I still have to make a trip to Stan’s in Westwood. So for tomorrow I will likely hit Tasty donuts and see if they have a nice Apple Fritter and a regular coffee.

I love Tim Horton’s, too! We could get them in North Dakota, but we just moved to Minnesota, so I’m going to have to scout out a new donut fix.

In Australia we have cinnamon donuts. We eat them hot, straight out of the fryer, rolled in cinnamon sugar and stuffed while still scalding hot into your mouth.
It’s unbelievably delicious.
