First Fragrant Buy In 2017? What Will Be Yours?

Heya Posse. HAPPY NEW YEAR! It’s already on my mind: First Fragrant Buy in 2017? What will it be? I have a short list of things I’d like a bottle of and I can’t for the life of me decide which will be my First Fragrant Buy In 2017?.

First Fragrant Buy In 2017?

  1. Rahele by Neela Vermeire Creations. So I know I’m getting a bottle of this but I have to wait till I get to Europe in march to grab it.
  2. Bracken Man by Amouage. Yes, I know it’s a poshened up fougere that can be got for pennies at the drug store but it’s SO MUCH MORE than them. I seriously can’t stop thinking about it.
  3. Apollo Hyacinth by Eric Buterbaugh Florals: Another one I’ve been yearning for. Flawless rendition of hyacinth stems. Cool and glamorous.
  4. Au Cœur du Désert Extrait de Parfum by Tauer Perfumes: Seriously, does ANYONE not want this? MMMMMMMMM 20% ingredients! Heaven. Even though Andy has decided War On Bloggers I still want this baby so much.
  5. Tornado Blond by Christian Louboutin: I know, the juice is less than outstanding but it’s my favourite of the three, I love Loubouton as a brand and those vagina bottles make me laugh.
  6. Turbulences by Louis Vuitton: Yes, ANOTHER less than outstanding launch set. What a freaking let down these were after all the waiting. Basically a set of drug store perfumes done with very nice materials. Still, I really do want one for my collection and turbulences is the one I remember best. There was another one I liked but can’t remember the name.
  7. Can’t remember but there are more…..

Don’t want a full bottle? Go see Surrender To Chance where you can find samples galore!!

UPDATE: Bought a full bottle of Rahele by NVC. Getting a friend to send it to me. WOO HOO! First retail fragrance purchase of 2017..

So what’s on your First Fragrant Buy list for 2017?

  • Ingeborg says:

I am just going to sample and exchange small decants the first few months of the year, at least that is the plan. We will see how that works out! Now in the late hours I am trying Zoologist Panda (New formula it says on the spray vial) and it is very nice, but still interesting. I got one extra sample (Civet) with my sample order and hope I won’t receive any extra bill from customs (the total for 5 samples included postage would be just over our limit for duty free import, I think. And even if it took only a week! from Dec. 30th to arrive, the small parcel had been opened by customs). First world problem, I know!

Our local Douglas has 20 % off on all perfume now, so need to be strong for a few days, among the more mainstream scents I still have Knot on my list of wanted bottles.

    • Ingeborg says:

Arrrgh, I commented too late at night. Obviously it is Zoologist Beaver which has a new formula. Both Beaver and Panda are so good, both would be perfeect for spring and our rather cool early summer days in Scandinavia. Cannot detect much musk or animalic notes in the drydown of Beaver, but that means it would in fact be rather office friendly even if it has an outdoorsy style. It may be different for others, I may be anosmic to certain musks.

  • Hey P! Trying like hell to limit my FB purchases, but we all know how well THAT works out. So my first FB purchase is happening in like, 10 minutes….a bottle of VC&A Moonlight Patchouli, mostly because THE NAME…….!!!!!!! (And I hear it’s wonderful, so that helps too! Xoxox -Robert H.

    • Portia says:

      Hi there Robert,
TinaG has a bottle of Moonlight Patchouli and LOVES it. smells wonderful on her too.
Good luck with minimisation in 2017.

  • Ann says:

Howdy, dear! Happy New Year!! ou know me, no FBs for me, ha! But I so need to try the new Neela and get a smidge more of the Charlotte Tilbury scent. PS Any idea when you will be back in the States?

    • Portia says:

      Hey Ann,
Thanks, hope your 2017 is a good one.
There is talk of doing the San Francisco to New York rail journey later in the year but as yet it’s only talk. Fingers crossed.

  • Amy says:

My first orders are made: Paul Schutze Behind the Rain *and* Tears of Eros.

    • Portia says:

      I don’t know those Amy,
      They look fun.
      Portia xx

    • Crikey says:

Oh, yay! I bought Tears of Eros last year, and I am *besotted* by it. I’ve just drained a second sample of Behind the Rain, and am pretty sure that’s my next bottle. (I’m really regretting forgetting that bloom had a sale at xmas until it was a day too late…) I hope you love them.

      • Amy says:

So good to see another fan, as these seem to have flown under the radar. I love all three and find Behind the Rain and Tears of Eros fantastically interesting and beautiful. I also have a biggish sample of Cirebon so will make do with that for the time being.

  • Tara C says:

Just received a bottle of Aedes Palissandre d’Or today, woot! Next on the list is Heeley Eau Sacrée. Also want to sample some SHL and the new Olfactive Studio Close Up.

    • Portia says:

I still don’t have an Aedes bottle TaraC,
Don’t know why. I LOVE them. Just never seem to buy them. Maybe 2017 is my Aedes year?

  • Nadja Sand says:

I made my first perfume order of the year earlier this evening. A bottle of Imaginary Authors Memoirs of a Trespasser. Have been wanting a bottle for a couple years, so it felt like it was time… and I got a good free international shipping deal (which happens about once in a blue moon!), so that’s $50 saved right there… Score!

Also picked up a bunch of samples, Zoologist Bat, Baruti Dama Koupa, Kerosene Follow, Kelly & Jones Cabernet Reserve (because I’m seriously into red wine perfume lately) and a couple Nishane, Fan My Flames and Afrika Olifant. Hoping to get some La Curie samples as extras.

  • Tatiana says:

I bought a few samples from STC and LuckyScent. I am tempted buy something new but looking at my collection it is clear I need nothing. So I’m holding off. Especially since I asked Dear Husband if we could go to Paris for Valentine’s Day. He didn’t say no, he didn’t say yes, he just said maybe March would have better weather. Not holding my breath, but I still have a glimmer of hope. So all purchases are being held off until a much later date.

    • Portia says:

      Hey Tatiana,
I LOVE Paris in winter. No other season is so lovely there for me. There’s something EXTRA fabulous about Laduree croissants in the chill early winter mornings and wandering the Tuileries garden from the Louvre to get to Guerlain on Rue de Saint Honoré, past the museums and hot food stands.
Make him take you for Valentine’s day. It will be heaven,
We will be there near the end of March though, maybe we could organise to meet?
      Portia xx

  • Katherine says:

I have been dying for a bottle of Portrait of a Lady by Malle. I’m hoping to get it for Valentines.

  • HeidiC says:

In about a month, 2 poetry and perfumista friends and I are going to be at a creative writing conference in DC — we’re already plotting our escape to go sniff at the store Alison mentioned above, Arielle Shoshana. I’m planning to smell Rahele, the Au Coeur de Desert, Arquiste’s Ella, and as many Zoologist scents as I can cram in my nose — also saving up, because I sense a splurge.

    • Portia says:

      WOW HeidiC,
So jealous you are going to see Arielle. I only met her once in real life but we correspond. She’s the bomb.
I hope you find something gorgeous to splurge on.
      Portia xx

  • Sylvia says:

Husband found ( yay!) and bought a bottle of Terra-cotta Le Perfume for me last night!!! I’m probably going to get a small bottle of Vanilla Incensee and Orange Sanguine too, soon.

  • Alison says:

I went into our local shop, Arielle Shoshana, last weekend all set to fall in love with Vermiere’s Rahele and was so disappointed when it went from “meh” to non-existent on me in about 30 minutes flat. Osmanthus is my all-time favorite note.

HOWEVER I came away infatuated with the new Kismet by House of Lubin! I went through my sample in about 18 hours and am counting the days until I can go buy the 100ml bottle. Some reviews have likened it to Shalimar but it smells much more like Bal a Versailles, 1980’s version to me and that’s a very good thing!

  • Olivia says:

Amouage Fate Woman – thanks to STC for the sample, as I discovered I don’t want to live without it. Probably also a light Shalimar flanker in anticipation of spring…

    • Portia says:

      Hey Olivia,
There have been some great Shalimar flankers lately, do you know which one you’ll be looking at?
      Portia xx

  • Musette says:

I’m not doing perfume, per se – on my list are ultra-luxe body creams: No5 and Amouage Gold. Sooo lovely – and I use the living daylights out of them!

    xoxoA

  • rickyrebarco says:

I will just be sampling, Rahele and Myrrh Tonka from Jo Malone.

  • Jenbat says:

Probably samples from Auphorie, I’ve been waiting to try their line for a good while.

  • Bill Tse says:

Well if room sprays count, that’d be the bottle of Diptyque Essence of John Galliano that I bought yesterday. I tried putting it on myself too and it’s quite nice.
I also plan to get a L’Artisan Parfumeur Dzongkha. I tried L’Ombre dans l’eau at Diptyque yesterday and I think I’m in love with it. I may need that too.

  • I have been deliberately staying away from shops this January, but my hit list for 2017 is as long as my arm! For Christmas I had classic and beautiful L’Air du Temps, and an adorbale and unexpected set of L’occitane minis, so i might buy bog versions of those!

  • cinnamon says:

Happy new year! Probably going to be a small bottle of Jazmin Sarai Solar 1. A friend sent a sample in her Xmas box and it’s getting a lot of love.

    • Portia says:

      Hiya Cinnamon,
I don’t know that one but going to look it up. Sounds interesting.
      Portia xx

    • Jenbat says:

I love her stuff! See if you can get a sample of Neon Graffiti and Led IV with your Solar I purchase, both so great!

  • Laurels says:

Nothing at the top of my list is new–Estée Lauder Knowing, CSP Amour de Cacao, Givenchy Organza, and Guerlain L’Heure Bleue. New eyeglasses should really come first, though.

Now I have to take another look at the Louboutin bottles. Have you seen the new Agent Provocateur? Sam at I Scent You a Day has a review. That is a bottle one might want to hide when the nephews come to visit.

  • Neva says:

Happy New Year Portia! On my list I’ve got several perfumes but since it’s wintertime I think Ormonde Woman and Malle’s Noir Epices will get priority…unless I get weak this afternoon. I’m planning a visit to the Chanel boutique and although I just want to sniff around a bit, maybe I’ll get carried away 😉

    • Portia says:

      Hey Neva,
Happy New Year to you also.
Stunning choices, Ormond Jayne Woman is delicious and though Noir Epices isn’t my favourite Malle it is done to perfection.

  • Eldarwen22 says:

When STC had a 15% sale, I grabbed a sample of Andy Tauer’s latest creation. I can’t wait to give it a try. Got a few other samples with it as well.

    • Portia says:

How great was that 15% SALE Eldarwen22?
I think lots of people got carried away. He He he, not mentioning any names……
