What is with this Febrapril?

Okay, the iris perfumes I reviewed last week have been in steady rotation.  I planned on working on the chocolate post, but it’s been running between 50s and 70s in Denver for the last 4 weeks, I think.  So, yeah, not the right time for chocolate.

What it has been the right time for is all of those spring projects around the house. In February… February in Denver … I’ve had my house painted, they are staining and sealing my deck this week, a guy is coming in to rework my water feature in the backyard, I’ve had landscaping plans drawn up for my backyard, and we are going to see if we can do some earth tilling and get the preliminaries for the landscape plan ready.  February.  I feel like I hit the bonanza. By the time you get to April/May and the weather is great to do these projects, you are competing with 700,000 people trying to get all the same projects done.  Nobody calls you back or they can get to you in August to do that planting thing. Um, no, forget it, I don’t want to.

You know what I haven’t been doing the last week?  Perfume.  I’ve been playing with Cora Lou, working with the exterior people to get things dusted up a bit outside the house, planning some new projects for inside.

Then I feel so bad because I know other parts of the country are not having a Febrapril, they are getting shit on by winter.  So accept my apology for going on and on about this spring-like weather.  Trust me, we all know we are going to pay for it in March and April with probably 2-3 feet of snow.

Winners of the three Iris perfumes sample set (Atelier des Ors Iris Fauve, Coolife Le Sixieme and Armani/Prive Iris Celadon) – Merry Rower, Aubrey Morey, Rachel W and Hayley. Just click on Drop Us a Note at the top, send me an e-mail, remind me of what you won, give me the ten samples you want and get me your mailing address. I’ll send you a quick e-mail to let you know I got your e-mail and it didn’t land in a spam filter and then get it on the way to you.

I’m trying to think of a clever giveaway this week and just can’t, so I’ll do two sample sets of like 3-4 things on your perfume wish list, if I  have them.  Just drop a comment telling me how your winter is looking in Febraury to be entered.

My winter coat has been out for an “airing” once. I MISS WINTER. Hard cold winter that shows the bones of the beautiful trees, freezes your nose hairs and kills(mostly) all the bugs. A reprieve from ticks and Lyme. Ugh. Something is not right in glockamora.
    Forgive my rant.
It’s sounds as though your home is a haven of peace and beauty. Glad FebApril has been good to you.

In AZ: just planted some tomato and squash yesterday in 70 degrees. Today, raining all day and chilly. Spring/Winter? Sprnter?

  • otamom says:

Our winter has been awful, with a record amount of snow. However, we’ve had recent warm temperatures and now at least the streets are free of ice and snow. The sun is shining and people are feeling more hopeful now that we have a glimmer of spring!

  • CC Quick says:

Winter seems to have skipped over us in coastal Georgia. We’ve had some crazy weather though…tornadoes, torrential downpours and crazy wind!

  • Olivia says:

Our winter is devoid of snow and verrrry windy. Are winter tornadoes a thing? I don’t know. Thanks for the chance!

  • Kandice says:

I live in Texas and right now it’s alternating between 42 and 80! I’m sure we’re in for a tough summer as a result. Thanks for the drawing!

  • Koyel says:

Highs of 60 here in the south of France! And I’m moving back to Silicon Valley in < 2 weeks, where the weather will continue to be excellent 🙂

  • Nemo says:

It’s been unusually cold and rainy for much of the month in the Bay Area, but the past few days were reasonably sunny! It’s looking like another week of rain starting otmorrow, though 🙁

  • Musette says:

just popping in here to say yesterday I was sitting on the back steps, in the sun – wearing a longsleeved cotton knit top and a lightweight vest. Today? um. I could use TWO coats, thank you!

Insane temps! Watching my peonies so they don’t decide to pop their little shoots up, just in time to get killed! Lots and lots of straw.

  • Ingeborg says:

Temperatures below zero most days, but not much snow in the middle of the Norwegian capital. So very different from the winters in the 80s when I first moved here. Still, we cannot be sure of real spring before the end of March. Have just received a heap of samples from a generous perfume lover in Germany, several green chypre fragrances to try, such a treat!

  • Sapphire says:

Arkansas has been up and down like crazy, too. It got up to 82 last weekend, unheard of for February. We just got outside and enjoyed it. Summer might be brutal, though.

  • maggiecat says:

We’ve had a few cold days, but also way too many unseasonable warm ones. Usually in the same week, which is why everyone’s sick right now. My new favorite North Texas weather meme goes like this:

Mother Nature (scolding): North Texas, you simply cannot have all four seasons in one week!
North Texas (imagine a twang here): Hold my beer and WATCH THIS!

  • BostonScentGuy says:

Febapril is right! In Boston we had mid-high fifties followed by a snowstorm…and a bit of a chill…snowrain part 2, and then mild again today. Sigh. Slightly confusing for scent application! Trying to stick to some nice fougeres with a bit of heft but not overpowering (Or Black, Azz. PH, Rive Gauche, etc.).

  • Bastet says:

In Virginia we’ve been swinging violently between warm and cold with some crazy wind and even thunder storms as the various fronts move in. At least it’s not boring!

  • Marilee says:

Rain, snow, rain, thaw, repeat here in Pittsburgh. I wish the snow would stay. We could go skiing more often and it would keep the beagle from eating (and throwing up) the grass!! I can’t get into a perfume groove with winter scents. Each day I have to check the temperature to find something that will sit nicely!

  • tiffanie says:

Winter has gone wonky here, very cold then very warm, but it’s ok as the rain fall totals in this part of the southwest US are finally above average. Drought may draw to a close so now the worry is the dams bursting. I should stop listening to the crisis-oriented news and smell more perfume.

  • Paddy Mogan says:

Santa fe is also having psycho weather although we had a beautiful wet snowstorm two days ago. Back to 65 degrees today!

  • HeidiC says:

Our weather is also weird — it’s supposed to be near 60 tomorrow in MINNEAPOLIS. Not complaining, but definitely noticing.

Thanks for the draw! Also, when you do the chocolate post, would you mind doing a comparison of Iris Celadon to Iris Ganache? I’m really curious.

  • RoseMacaroon says:

SF bay area got really warm this week, too. I abruptly shifted from hunkered-down-in-Vanillaville to a yen (a yen, I say!) to find out what narcissus smells like, and ditto amaryllis.

  • mikasminion says:

I think I took my most tender tropical plants inside three times this season and covered the hardier stuff outside twice. We did have one colder than normal freeze that burned stuff back, but at the moment my plumeria has little leaves beginning to form and the lawn is starting to grow. I have a wild tomato seedling that sprouted in a potted plant in December and is doing nicely and even blooming. What freakin’ winter?

  • Neva says:

After this terribly cold past two months, I appreciate the few sunny days recently although the temperatures are still low…can’t wait for spring to arrive.

  • jenbat says:

Lucky you, we just got half a foot of snow dropped on us! Although that’s also nice in it’s own way. Hey has Posse ever done a Patchouli guide? That would also be really cool!

  • Jeanne says:

Mildest winter I can remember in a long time, here in Ohio.

  • rickyrebarco says:

Already quite warm in Florida. Spring in February.

  • Rosemary says:

Here in Mobile Alabama, Mardi Gras parade season is in full swing right now! As for weather, we had about 7 days of 30 degree weather, interspersed with some very warm spring weather. Like 70s to 80s in Dec, Jan, and Feb! I worry how sweltering summer will be for us! I mean, yes, it’s warmer here than up north, but we usually get 3 months of 40s to 60s before spring hits; this winter has been unusual!

  • solanace says:

It’s been a very rainy summer. Which is great, because now reservoirs are full! But not so much fun for catching the bus everyday, I have to say. Then, the blazing sun is even worse. (Am I allowed to complain year round?) That’s life in the rainforest. No matter how much they cement it, the forces of Nature persist powerful.

  • Gigi says:

We’ve had an unusual number of snowfalls this winter, but for February it looks like we’re back to the normal rain rain rain rain rain…

  • Ellen M says:

Looking weird like yours and I’m further south than Denver.
