Aqaysos by Pierre Guillaume for Huitieme Art 2017 + GIVEAWAY

Hey Hey Posse Peeps! Aqaysos is a strange name and I’m not fully around how to say it. My best guess is a-Kay-soss but as you know I’m an Aussie and one with only the merest hints of knowledge about language and pronunciation. Pierre says it means Crystal Wood and it doesn’t come up in Google Translate.

Aqaysos Huitieme Art Parfums FragranticaFragrantica

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Spicy notes, fruity notes, woody notes

In the post today I got two carded samples of Aqaysos and I’m going to give myself a spritz from each and give you my first impressions, then I think we’ll do a GIVEAWAY and two lucky people can try it before anyone else. Sound good? I hope so.

The opening is interesting and has an oily citrus and sea air very reminiscent of some of the Hermès Jardin series. As soon as I have written that though the fragrances focus has changed. I am now confronted with a glace fruit and juice extravaganza that is sweet but not in a confectionary way. A seriously adult version of the fruit tingle genre of fragrances like original Lolita Lempicka, Cacharel Liberte and the million other such frags. This has personality and I keep thinking about roses.  Through the heart Aqaysos is a little like, but only in passing reference, Calvin Klein Contradiction Woman.

Unusually for what I expect from the Huitieme Art series this is not a gourmand, or even particularly sweet. A cool, wet version of all these things yet managing to maintain a warm welcoming vibe.

The base its much drier, more warmth has infused Aqaysos and it becomes a more spicy, smoky, heated event, at one point smelling exactly like fresh toast and marmalade. The sheer genius of creating these mini stories within a fragrance that from a distance smells comfortable, powdery and woodsy.

Pierre sent us this selfie to say “Hi and Thank You Perfume Posse”. Isn’t he the sweetest damn thing you ever saw? I’m hoping to have a catch up with him in Paris or Milan in March, fingers crossed.

  • Sherrie K. says:

My fave: Iris Oriental has a woodsy, floral scent on me.

  • katrin says:

There aren’t many I’ve tried, but some are on my wishlist. Myrrhiad is delicious, a bit too sweet at times. It is something that I’d love to sniff around me if not necessarily on me. In the PG line, Papyrus de Ciane and Querelle are simply the best! I also enjoyed very much Coze, Musc Maori and the oddly compelling Louanges Profanes. Thanks for the draw!

  • Kate E. says:

I’d love to try Myrrhiad, I’m a sucker for black tea. I’ve only tried Cadjmere from this line and liked it very much. Thanks for the giveaway!

  • Rosemary says:

The only PG I’ve tried is 08 Intrigant Patchouli, which I found enjoyable, particularly in its heart. I’m curious about the new Aqaysos, and also interested in 13 Brulure de Rose,14 Iris Oriental, Ambre Ceruleen, and Shermine.

I love that Pierre sent that photo, and I was really excited when I learned this handsome guy is a chemist! As a microbiologist myself, when you tell me there’s science involved, it piques my interest. Thanks for the review and giveaway; Parfumerie Generale is now really on my radar!

  • Clarochka says:

I like Coze and Indochine. Oriental Iris is interesting but has next to nothing longevity on my skin

  • Ingeborg says:

Apart from one of the perfumes from the Cruise Collection (my sister bought one, very easy to wear), I have only ever tried the PG line briefly in one of the niche perfumeries here, not the best way to make up one’s mind about buying or not buying. I would love to try Aqaysos, juicy but not too sweet sounds good.

  • M3000 says:

I love my Huitieme Art Monsieur a lot, that bottle was my entry stage in the niche world. And I find Metal Hurlant really fascinating.

  • Lillibet says:

I haven’t tried any of these yet but I love both the Hermes Jardin series and Loloita Lempicka so I’d love to give this one a try. Thanks for the draw Portia!

  • Kathryn says:

Iris Oriental is my favorite. Thanks for the draw!

  • Ellen M says:

Portia, I have never tried any of this line. This sounds like a very interesting scent, so I guess this would be one that I would like to sample. Thanks so much for the draw.

  • Spring-pansy says:

I love Parfumerie Generale – Bois Blond was one of my early niche favorites – strangely, I have not yet bought a bottle. I do own Myrrhiad – one I bought as a reward when I started a new job. I would really like to try Aqaysos – it sounds like exactly the kind of thing I like from Pierre – Unusual gourmandish woods. Thanks for entering me in the draw, Portia.

  • sara says:

I haven’t tried many PGs, but my favorite is Louanges Profanes. Thank you for the giveaway.

  • It’s ironic I JUST got both PG sample sets in the mail early last week. So far Aomassai 10 is my favorite of the PG line and I have yet to try any Cruise Collection. I have tried Ciel d’Airain though. Favorite from private collection is Querelle for sure. Loved the film and Pierre brought the protagonist to life perfectly. I too want to try Aqaysos as it’s the first PG released in both Eighth Art and Numbered collection. Thanks so much…

PS The giveaway text says Oliver & Co & yes he is just too damn sweet, as beautiful as his perfumes are.

    Smell swell & be well…
