Hippity-hoppity: Easter is on its way

Easter
Happy Monday, dear Posse folks! As we end our spring break, we are gearing up for the next event/occasion in our household: Easter Sunday. My son is a teenager now but he still likes to get a basket. In his, there’s always a big chocolate bunny, a few other candies, and something else, like a movie, book, etc. Not sure what DH has up his sleeve for the basket this year, but I snapped up a tin of rooibos tea that he loves (that was very hard to find), so I’m hoping that will make him happy that the Easter bunny remembered him once again.

When I was little, Easter dresses and hats were quite the thing (thankfully the gloves were not required when I came along). Now not so much — I don’t wear dresses or skirts at all anymore, but I do love a hat now and then, just not one of those fancy ones that used to be de rigueur at Easter. I have a pretty, colorful silky top that I’ll wear with dress pants to church, and my husband will cook a ham or turkey and we’ll likely take it out of town to visit my mother-in-law. She’s getting up in years (93), but so loves to celebrate Easter.

However, I am debating what to wear fragrance-wise that day. Gucci Envy is gorgeous but can be a little cold, Arquiste Ella not quite spring-y enough (too much in the chypre vein?). Methinks perhaps a light spritz of the always lovely Carnal Flower, or Byredo’s oh-so-pretty La Tulipe, or perhaps something lily of the valley-ish? But it will depend on what I can pull out of my (non- Easter) hat. I’ve had to do some major spring cleaning in my perfume room (aka our dining room), so heaven knows if I can put my hands on anything anymore, ha!

What about you? For those of you who celebrate Easter, what are your traditions and family favorites? What fragrance(s) do you like to wear then? Or for those of you who attend church, are there certain scents that you’re partial to wearing to services?

I expect I’ll be wearing Diorissimo to church on Easter Sunday. The scent of lilies is a special treat for me, and a scent of celebration.

    • Ann says:

Yes, Maggiecat — it really is something special. I know you’ll smell fabulous in it. Enjoy!

  • Sapphire says:

Thinking about wearing Bas de Soie. But if the weather is rainy (and it might well be), then might go with something a little warmer like TDC Jasmin de Nuit or J’Adore Voile de Parfum.

    • Ann says:

So, so glad you mentioned BdS, Sapphire! That’s been one of my faves and I’ve just forgotten about it lately, which is a shame. I’ve not sniffed the J’Adore Voile but the TDC is quite nice.

    Hey Ann,
It’s been a long time since I went to Easter services but if I were going it would probably be either a heavy incense fragrance like CdG Avignon, Tauer Incense Rose and L’Artisan Coeur de Vetiver Sacre or something tongue in cheek like Caron Parfum Sacre or Bruno Fazzolari Cadaver Exquis.
    Portia xx

    • Ann says:

Howdy, dear! I love those choices and agree — if I attended a Catholic church (esp. in a beautiful old building), I would be thrilled to wear any of those (except maybe the Cadaver, but who knows?) 😉 Can’t be any more difficult than Secretions Magnifique, right?

  • Caroline says:

Never actually smelled either of these, but recommend either La Tulipe or the Aerin Honeysuckle for Easter–they just sound right. Will probably opt for Romanza or Chamade.

    • Ann says:

Caroline, you must sniff these — they are two of my faves. Just treat yourself to a couple of samples over at STC. I haven’t smelled Romanza but I know you will be gorgeous in Chamade!

I have no set perfumes for Easter, due to the fact that it might still be freezing cold outside or really hot. If the weather is good, I might wear Apres L’Ondee or maybe go for no 19. If the weather is bad I might go for Theorema or Epic.

    • Ann says:

Great choices all, lady! And yes, you’re right — the weather’s always a bit of a gamble. But you’re covered beautifully, no matter what.

For some reason I always, always wear Safran Troublant on Easter Sunday, at least during the day. I may add a spritz of some gardenia perfume in the evening.
Over the years I’ve varied from very traditional meals and celebrations to barely noticing the date at all, but working in the garden and blessing the soil that feeds us is an Easter constant for me. Even in a sweet substrate like Safran Troublant, the scent of saffron is the scent of earth.

    • Ann says:

Oh, yes — that is a beaut! I have a sample or two around here (good luck finding it now) but I need to wear it. Thanks!

I’m clergy so it’s a big work day for me. Somehow though Serge Lugens Fleurs D’Orange has become my Easter scent. It’s just so bright, so happy, so sparkling. So I’ll be wearing that. 🙂

    • Ann says:

Such a lovely scent! I know it smells great on you. Wish it would work for me but my skin amps cumin something fierce, so I stick with Fleurs d’Citronnier instead. Enjoy!

  • HeidiC says:

I love the idea of you wearing Carnal Flower to church — that sounds so deviant, and yet so perfect! I’m currently loving my sample of Armani Privé’s Iris Celadon — there’s a creamy, buttery element to it that keeps it from being too cool and aloof. I’ve also rediscovered my sample of Dilettante — I may have to break down and get a FB of that one, unless somebunny wants to leave it for me in my basket!

    • Ann says:

HIya, dear! I hadn’t thought of CF that way 🙂 Yikes — imagine if someone asked what I was wearing? Even saying the word “carnal” in church somehow sounds very wrong! Glad you’re loving the iris and Dilettante. Hope the Easter Bunny reads the Posse, right?
