oooh, Child! I haz a giveaway! and winners!

Well!  It’s finally stopped raining – at least for a couple of days – and the garden is losing its mind, with roses budding out ahead of the irises, etc (I think I already yabbered on about that).  Hostas going wild, jumping up 5″ in a day!  Plants really do prefer rain to hose water – and why not!  I couldn’t get out in the garden for a week, it was so cold and wet, so I spent that time sampling Child.  I think I was in the throes of Something or Other when it first came out because I remember it showing up at Barneys – but that’s all I remember.  Now it’s at Beautyhabit and they were kind enough to send me a little sample bag, so I was able to take some time with it.   I didn’t realize Child has a perfume roll-on – I likes it!  Something about roll-ons soften a lot of perfumes, bringing them closer in to the skin.   Not that Child needs any particular help with that – the notes are the epitome of Soft and Pretty, which you know I love:

Top: Vanilla, Lilac, Faint Magnolia.
Heart: Jasmine, Tuberose, Violet.
Base: Crème Musk, Rose, Mimosa.

Not sure what Crème Musk is but whatever it is, it doesn’t overpower the warm flowers, which is great, and it gives the perfume a nice, solid (but not overwhelming) ‘bottom’.   I wore Child for 3 days in a row and got so many compliments! Interestingly, not one of the compliments was ‘what perfume are you wearing?’  – all of them were ‘wow.  you smell GREAT!’.  It’s a non-skin scent that succeeds in being a perfect skin scent.   To me, Child smells like a place – or, rather, a place in time.  Every time I open the rollerball I’m transported back…but I can’t quite pinpoint where it is I am.  One minute it’s 1972 and I’m in Love’s Baby Soft, listening to ‘Baby I’ma Want You’ and sighing over the Senior guys.  The next I am in 1954, in a kitchen with a pink table and chairs, which is strange because I wasn’t yet born.  But there ya go.  It’s a cozy, close scent, the roll-on, perfect for wearing (dare I say it) even in an office environment ( assuming you don’t work in an office full of jackbooted Perfume Brownshirts).  The vanilla warms up the violet and, oddly enough, tames the tuberose, so you don’t get any one note – the whole thing is shimmering and seamless and makes me feel like I’m wearing a polished cotton shirt, even when I’m wearing some tshirt out of the work drawer and my favorite yoga pants, with the wear hole above the left knee.  I prefer the roll-on to the spray – but, hey!  How about I let one of YOU decide?  Beautyhabit sent me this gorgeous sample bag and since I knew I was going to do a giveaway I didn’t slop it all over meself (I rolled one of the rollerballs onto a cotton ball because I am Nice Like That)

so pretty!

the luxe little black bag contains 1/3oz of Child perfume roll-on as well as a sample of the perfume spray & Heir perfume spray (also lovely).

Tell me a story about what’s going on in your life – I’ll have The Girl sneck a pawnail and we’ll pick a winner for this Very Luxe Gift Bag.

Wait!  Turns out I. Haz. TWO! of the little sample bags.  So The Girl will sneck a pawnail and pick TWO winners!

The Winners from my 5pm Saturdays post are:

It’s getting chillier by the day here in Melbourne (the Australian one). I must admit I’m rather jealous of all you northern hemisphereans heading into Spring!

Child sounds gorgeous – to be honest, you had me at Love’s Baby Soft 🙂

Thanks so much for the draw, and enjoy the beautiful weather you’re heading into!

As a professor at a community college, I am in the throes of grading student essays, papers, tests, and excuses at the end of a long term, and prepping for ankle fusion surgery next week. This is not a good combo. I’m going for the pity vote here… But truly, perfumes are making a huge difference in terms of how I deal with stress, and I’m enjoying new spring and summer scents. Not sure the rest of the folk in my office are on board, but I’m enjoying them.

Did I mention the knee scooter? Eight weeks non-weight-bearing? And I can’t wear nail polish OR make-up to the hospital???? The inhumanity of it all…

Down here in very sunny and dry, Florida, we’ve been plagued with fires. It was raining ash just the other day from all the fires just miles from my house. I’m so ready for something fresh and pretty smelling! Please enter me in your drawing. The Child perfume sounds so pretty and I NEED something pretty to smell!!! 🙂

  • Miriam says:

Not much of a story here really. I just went to the garden store for the first time this year and got carnations and a dianthus plant also for the first time because they smell like softly spiced vanilla and it’s amazing. But I don’t really have the energy for the gardening that I wish I could be doing– two small raised beds for vegetables and a bunch more flowers.

I’ve been awake for the sunrise many times in the past couple weeks and when it’s been clear I’ve gone for a walk. There is something very special about flowers at that time in the morning.

Child sounds quite lovely and comforting without being cloying– please count me in I would love to try it!

Whooo I used to love Love’s Baby Soft. It was a bit of an obsession. Shame that I grew up to be obsessed with perfumes that you can’t get at the drugstore for $1.99! (Though I did have to pick up a bottle a while back and it just ain’t the same) Child sounds like a great grown-up riff on the theme, and I’d love to try it.
Spring is finally in the air in these parts with a few days of sunshine under our belts. Hope you all are enjoying this delightful time of year.

  • It sounds like a wonderful, beautiful, comforting creation! Here in western New York its very cool and alternately sunny and flooding. But I hear woodpeckers every day and am waiting for the warblers. Lilacs and flowering trees are full out but some trees still don’t have leaves. Smells wonderful and earthy every day. But I can’t wait for the warmth! Although there is something sorta magical about the coolness and the smell of dirt just now. In the middle of finishing a biology degree so it almost feels like I’m a kid again myself, looking at everything common around me in a new way- the plants, their seeds, the soil, the birds. Even the rocks. 😐

  • Paige W says:

Lilac, Violet, and Rose?! Avec vanilla?! <3 Our lilacs are finally blooming after a long, cold Spring. Sadly, my violets never surfaced this year – those pampered west coast perennials just couldn't hold up to our insane winter. Child sounds like the most delicious harbinger of warm weather to come. Thanks for the draw!

  • solanace says:

It’s Fall here, sunny and crisp. I’ve been reading Bell Hooks and binge eating temakis.

  • ScentSpirit says:

Getting ready for the end of the school year and the dreaded inventory. Will be “locked in” the small back room of the library for a week or so, so I could use a gentle skin scent. Thanks!

  • Tara C says:

It is still freaking cold here in Montreal! Would love a bit of something to remind me of summer.

  • Kandice says:

Thank you for the draw. Anything soft and comforting would be very welcome right now. I am dealing with a new stressor everyday due to health issues with family members. Thank God for perfume which can offer some immediate comfort and cheer to an otherwise bleak day (although I do say the same thing about coffee and chocolate too ?).

  • AnnJune says:

My 19-year-old son is moving home from college (my “baby”… I’m thrilled!) for the summer and we’re in the process of moving rooms in the house so he can have a larger bedroom/den. With the trickle-down effect of room moving, this will involve a total of 4 rooms, which is half of my small post-divorce house! And of course this means wall and floor color changes, change of window treatments, etc., so a big project involving upheavals all around. Will be worth it when we’re through, however, as he’ll have more privacy and I will have a larger sunlit studio for my sewing business. now to get started.… Thanks for the draw!

I almost forget what Child smells like. The sample bag sounds lovely. I am loving on all my delicate floral perfumes for spring. Tears are flowing tonight because Im listening to Adele and wearing Un Lys because I miss my love who left me after 33 years mall

  • bevfred says:

I love your garden stories. For the first time in years I am unable to do so and miss it terribly. I wanted to try Child when it first came out but because I live in Canada it wasn’t possible. Things have changed, YAY! I hope the pawnail gives me the opportunity.

  • edpgypsy says:

Lots of dog training! Got a German Shepherd pup with endless energy but she sure keeps me active! So happy that that it’s spring now and I don’t have to wear 5 layers to go on walks! xoxo

  • merrilyrow says:

Somehow my 15 year old son’s birthday is managing to last a fortnight, what with go-kart racing and skeet shooting and Shake Shack and VR shenanigans. Boy, do I ever need a bit of a soft, sweet Child in my life right about now. Thanks for the chance to win one! In the meantime, I’ll just chant the mantra “pretty, pretty” over and over again…

  • VerbenaLuvvr says:

After a long winter, my kids and I are spending every spare minute outside planting flowers and little fruit trees and veggies. So important, I think, for kids to understand where their food comes from! I have long thought about ordering a sample of Child, fingers crossed! 🙂

  • Sapphire says:

This sounds so pretty! Thanks for the drawing!

  • Nelle says:

The weather has been crazy, warm, chilly, warm rainy and chilly, April and May have been nuts! This fragrance sounds interesting, thanks for the chance to try it! I have’t got any interesting stories at the moment.

  • Audrey H. says:

I’ve been doing yardwork every chance we get. It’s been a snowy cold winter and being outside in semi warm weather has been so nice. So, my scent of the day has been dirt, for real lol
I’ve never tried Child but have always been curious about it. It sounds lovely. Thanks for the chance to try it.

  • Beth Johnson says:

I just got engaged and cut in half (360 degree body lift) in the last 6 weeks. Oh and let’s not forget the chest being restored to classic conditions. It’s been busy round here with life altering changes. I am eager for comfortable and comforting! This sounds so interesting. I’m going to have to check it out!!

Oh and your garden sounds like it’s going to be marvelous! We’ve had a ton of rain here too but it’s staying so cold that only the bulbs are coming up and blooming.

    Thanks for the draw!!

  • Clarochka says:

    Thank you for the draw

I just had a surprise visit from my sister in Canada and best friend in Dallas! They showed up at my house unexpected after months of planning and I suspected nothing! It was a wonderful weekend of wine, good food, and fun. I shared many of my fragrances with them and sent them home with decants. I’m always interested in sampling new fragrances and love a warm skin scent!

    • Musette says:

omgosh! What a wonderful surprise!!!!! I spent the weekend with my bfffe (after many weeks of separations – nay, MONTHS!) omg – I didn’t realize how much I’d missed her!

Just had my 8 years old daughter’s Bday party and now we are getting ready for school to end and summer break to begin! Please enter me!

  • MMKinPA says:

You had me at Loves Baby Soft!! I could use a retro pick me up after a rough weekend with the 13 year old boy who decided to stay up all night on Friday watching YouTube videos on his phone (not allowed in his room); then compounded the infraction by sleeping through his Saturday lunch date with his “girlfriend”, who is the daughter of one of my teaching colleagues. He is now the proud owner of a not-so-smart phone (almost all of the apps have been deleted) and is banned from electronics indefinitely. Possibly an overreaction due to my embarrassment, but we are trying really hard to turn him into a gentleman, so we dropped the hammer on these bad choices. I realize teenagers have always been challenging to raise but to do it these days in the social media/video game age seems especially challenging! So that’s my story… more than anyone wanted to hear!!

    • Musette says:

I <3 you, sweetie. I don’t know how anybody is able to connect with teenagers these days – it really is different! I remember The Cubs @ 14 (when I first got with their Paw) – omg. SUCH drama!

We’re in the midst of make-up season here. Make-up baseball games. Make-up softball games. We, too, have had lots of rain which has turned sandy ball diamonds into puddles for ducks. It’s gonna be the 4th of July before all of these get worked in. Where have I been that I’ve never even heard of Child? Totally missed this one so thanks for the chance to try it!

    • Musette says:

LOL! we actually had waterfowl on our little park’s basketball court. Swimming! So I know that one! Child sort of flew under the radar, first out. Barneys is fabulous in oh, SO many ways, but they don’t tend to promote their goods overmuch.

  • HeidiC says:

“sneck a pawnail” — snort! That’s so cute! How vanilla is the vanilla? Because that’s usually a deal breaker, unless it’s used as just a sort of smoothing agent. Thanks for sample bags!

    • Musette says:

It’s just a smoothing agent, which is why I LUH it! I’m not a fan of Vanilla, either, when it’s a main agent.

  • RoseMacaroon says:

Not sure why that question mark appeared there, plz ignore.

    • Musette says:

eh, technology is not always our friend 😉 And congratulations on getting close to getting through your course!

  • RoseMacaroon says:

That really does smell like a lovely frag and one sort of in its own class! I’m in an intense training course, almost three-fourths done, in order to finally break into bodywork/holistic health as a career, ans freaking out because i have to give a presentation tomorrow, something i’ve successfully avoided for more than a decade, but — can’t stay in one place in life, it doesn’t lens itself to aligning with the flow of dynamic life energy.
Thank you for the draw, and the garden updates — i enjoy these! ?
