Jewels of Blu by Aqaba 2007: Sample Refound!

Hiya Posse Peeps! A few years ago I went to the Aqaba site and bought their sample set. They arrived at the same time as a few other things and in the way that I work they got lost and forgotten. Recently trolling some of the discounters Jewels of Blu came up on the ParfuMaria site on discount and I remembered that I had the sample set here. Cue madcap searching. It all got very slapstick around here but in the end I triumphed over the disorganisation and I found the one I was looking for.

The internet says: Aqaba is a Jordanian port city on the Red Sea’s Gulf of Aqaba. Inhabited since 4000 B.C., it’s home to the Islamic-era Fort and the adjacent Archaeological Museum. Its beach resorts are popular for windsurfing and other water sports, and the area is a top destination for scuba divers, with notable dive sites including the Yamanieh coral reef in the Aqaba Marine Park, south of the city.

Jewels of Blu by Aqaba 2007Fragrantica

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Top: Peach, Apricot, Rose de Mai
Heart: Ylang Ylang, Egyptian Jasmine
Base: Vanilla Bourbon , Patchouli, Tibetan Musk

Fruity roses open, they are sheer and radiant. I can feel them jumping off my skin. Sheer, like looking through a crystal. I was expecting much richer, more Middle eastern heft and thickness but Jewel of Blu is light as a feather. A very reserved fragrance that instead of storming in, picking you up by the neck and shaking you walks in, calm and poised, sits politely and asks for black tea with lemon. Al through the fragrance I get a hint of patchouli and tobacco as I notice the fragrance after some time of neglecting it, a moment of olfactory recognition and gone.

The heart maintains a softly fruity wash over a very prim floral bouquet and dry down is clean, pretty and unassuming musk with still a soft fruity backdrop.

Jewels of Blu but I can see why it’s not a huge hit amongst the perfumista community. I can imagine it being a lovely go-to day to day wear fragrance for some young girl or a woman who wants to smell nice but doesn’t really want to be fully fragrant.

I have the Aqaba Midnight Sun, a lovely oriental. Would like to try more.

I have never heard of this line let alone tried it! Too bad that I have to pay the bills before I can check it out.

Those bills Eldarwen22!! Never ending. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a sugar person to keep you housed, fed and heated? Then ALL our cash could go to fragrance.

The original Aqaba is lovely, but my favorite from the line is Aqaba Spring, followed closely by The Sands of Aqaba. I received a really nice sample pack from Miriam Mirani several years ago, as part of an offer she gave to a group of us (I can’t remember if it was here on the Posse, or some other perfumista group). Cue madcap search over here at my house…..

I adore the original aqaba which is pretty spicy with cinnamon and incense. It does not have huge silage, but is not low level either (arms length but not death in elevator) and longevity is serious. It’s definitely more of a cozy wintery scent and I highly recommend its chic, sexy mystery.
