Celebration Monday

celebration
First off, thank you for all your kind, feel-better wishes from last week. I’ve happily rebounded and am now in celebration mode: DH and I are celebrating our 29th wedding anniversary. And since it’s a tad bit warm here, I’ve picked a lighter, elegant newcomer to wear: Guerlain’s Joyeuse Tubereuse.

Thank goodness for Surrender to Chance, or I’d not have been able to sniff this, seeing as my Neiman Marcus (and most other department stores) no longer carries the venerable line in store. It does seem to be available online some places.

Patty wrote about this scent a while back, saying it was quite pretty but not earth-shattering, and I had to try it. It’s a soft, yet slightly green tuberose, but doesn’t scream “tuberose,” therefore, unlikely to be polarizing as some of those scents can be. Just the right mix of pretty floral and creamy vanilla Guerlain goodness. Almost a comfort scent tuberose, if you will, and one that could ease tuberose haters into the fold.

Notes per Fragrantica: Green top notes; middle: tuberose, lily, jasmine sambac; base notes: sandalwood, vetiver and vanilla.

Now I’m thinking that this might not have enough oomph for a celebration in colder climes, but is perfect for warmish fall days that cool down lightly into evening. Other anniversaries have fallen on chillier days, and I have pulled out heavier hitters accordingly.

So what about you? What do you wear when you’re in celebration mode, toasting a milestone in your life?

Thanks, dear, and a big thumbs-up for the 1932. It’s got some o’ that sparkle to it and feels festive –made even better by being a gift from your DH. He’s a keeper!!

  • maggiecat says:

    Congratulations!
For special occasions, I often wear Chanel 1932. First, because I love it and second because it is the first and only perfume my husband ever gave me. As he doesn’t care for perfume, it was a doubly generous and thoughtful gift two Christmases ago.

  • Queen Cupcake says:

Happy anniversary, Ann! Depending upon the nature of the celebration, I suppose I would wear YSL Champagne or perhaps vintage Jicky or Shalimar extrait. Must try the Joyeuse Tubereuse!

    • Ann says:

Thanks so much!! Mmmm, the YSL Champagne is nice, isn’t it? Can’t do the others but know they smell divine on you. Do give the JT a try when you can; it’s not life-changing or anything, but it is very pretty.

  • MrsDalloway says:

Congratulations, 29 years is wonderful! I only wear Jubilation XXV at Christmas, so I suppose that counts. I wore vintage Vent Vert parfum when we went out for a celebratory family lunch recently (birthdays and my older son successfully finishing 11+ testing for secondary school).

    • Ann says:

Thank you, dear! Jubilation is wonderful and very holiday-ish, and vintage Vent Vert — oh my!!! My taste (scent) buds are craving green now, ha!

  • HeidiC says:

Happy love day, Ann! Is the photo yours? On special occasions, I usually pull out something vintage or rare — a vintage Mitsouko or Cuir de Russie, or my teeny sample of Diaghilev. Or I douse myself in Carnal Flower, which is just liquid joy.

    • Ann says:

Heidi, thank you, dear! Yes, that is us coming back down the aisle. Not sure how the photo ended up so small, but probably operator error, ha! … Your celebration choices have my mouth watering! PS When we went out to dinner, I did have the Guerlain on my neck and one wrist, but I couldn’t resist a little spritz of the Carnal Flower on the other wrist, just because!! 😉

  • Neva says:

Happy anniversary Ann. The photo is lovely 🙂 On special occasions I usually wear one of my vintage beauties, for example YSL Paris or E. Lauder Private Collection.

    • Ann says:

Aww, you’re so sweet — thanks, Neva!! Love your vintage greats, especially the Private Collection. Haven’t sniffed that in ages, so I’ve got to get on that — it’s a classic beauty!

  • Nemo says:

Congratulations on your anniversary!! I don’t celebrate many holidays or special occasions in any big way, but I love wearing spicy orange-y perfumes for the Christmas season 🙂

    • Ann says:

Thank you, Nemo!! I know you smell great in those scents for Christmas — they are perfect for the season!

    I’m full-on gourmand when I celebrate–bringing out the FSSAs!
