Surprise, surprise: Amouage on deck

amouageWell, well, darling Posse folks, I’m shaking my head once again. In my sporadic retail trips to the big city lately, I’m certainly stumbling across some interesting things. First, the case of the missing Guerlain counters, and now this. Today, as I scooted through Bloomingdale’s, what did I see on a counter, sharing space with those tall, cylindrical Montale bottles … Amouage!

Five or six of the women’s were displayed and that many of the men’s, which really had me doing a double-take. I can only remember Jubilation 25, Interlude, Honour, Epic and Lilac Love representing the ladies (didn’t see a tester for Gold, oddly enough), but I really could’t see the men’s bottles well enough to tell what they were. And frankly, the surrounding aisle was so crowded with shoppers that I didn’t want to venture picking each one up from its higher perch to look at it. Spilled and broken Amouage bottles would not have improved my day, ha!

I like Bloomingdale’s just fine (although I rarely seem to get over to that side of the mall), but truth be told, that chain was not where my mind went first when thinking what retailer– if any / ever– would carry Amouage. Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman’s, and Saks were likelier candidates in my mind, but hey, what do I know? It’ll be interesting to see where this goes from here. Guess I’ll need to visit Bloomie’s a little more often now, just to see what’s up.

So, what are your favorite Amouages? And what retail surprises have you experienced lately? I know in my big city over the weekend it was holiday shopping in high gear, like full-on December. Traffic was quite the bear, not only around the major malls, but even all over on the interstates. How about where you live?

The only Amouage which has ever worked for me is Blossom Love which I adore. Do I adore it enough to spend $360 for a bottle? Unfortunately no as that’s not in my price range at the moment, so I keep buying samples and using those up. As for the holidays, the malls here have not been bad. But the fact that every other radio station is already playing Christmas music makes me want to scream. Can’t they please wait till after Thanksgiving? Good grief!

  • Musette says:

wow! who knew? that’s just…odd. But nice! Glad to know they are representing here! As you know, I think I’ve been fortunate enough to try every iteration of every Amouage. Vintage Gold is mah JAM, as well as vintage Ubar. I love Beloved, as well, though I always feel I have to dress for it! 😉 I think I’m going to revisit all the Libraries over the Winter. There’s one with a naughty little jasmine note I’d like to review.

I’ve tried Lilac Love and Opus III and adored them both. I just have teensy weensy samples but will be looking for decants of both (no way could i afford full bottles).

  • Portia says:

    Hey Ann,
I love Amouage. The older ones yes, the library collection and a couple of the newbies like Lilac Love, Figment Woman and Beach Hut Man. We have them at a couple of Sydney city locations to try and buy.

I’m definitely not a fan of malls and crowds so most of my shopping is done online. My current favs for Amouage are Lyric, Epic and Memoir. STC is my go to for samples.

  • Kathleen Smith says:

I adore Fate and Lyric. I just won a bid on eBay for Opus III and after reading reviews am very excited about this Amouage.
I tend to not like crowds so I avoid malls and rely on STC and online sources for sniffing samples.

  • Debra says:

My absolutely favorite was Dia before they removed the tarragon note. Without it, however, Dia is just “meh”.

My second favorite was Lyric. I currently don’t own any Amouage. 🙁 I’m getting my rose hit from Guerlain Nahema EDP and a rose from an indie perfumer.

  • Tara C says:

They have completely renovated the Nordstroms wing of the La Jolla, CA mall and suddenly Byredo and Atelier Cologne are present at Nordies. It was kind of a traumatic trip though, as I got stuck in the confusing maze of a very full and unfinished parking garage, so I don’t think I will go back there until well after Christmas.

As for Amouage favourites, I love most of the older ones, haven’t bought anything since Fate and Beloved though. I don’t really care for the current direction it has taken.

    • Debra says:

Tara, how do you think it has changed; i.e., what *is* the current direction? I have only tried the older Amouage fragrances.

  • Rosemary says:

Lyric Woman is all I’ve sampled, but oh my, I sure did love it! My small city of Mobile, AL would never give me the luxury of convenient sampling, so I rely on Surrender to Chance 😉
