What’s your EBP: Thanksgiving edition

EBP
Oh, look, it’s that time again! And almost Thanksgiving, too — yikes!! Where has the year gone? Anyhoo, I want to take a moment and say how thankful I am for all you wonderful Posse readers, our fantastic Posse writers and our fearless leader Patty!! Now down to business: As you all probably know by now, EBP isn’t some kind of official-speak, as in, “Hey, Joe, what’s your ETA to the next delivery stop?” It stands for emergency backup perfume, and it was coined by lovely Posse reader AnnieA, commenting on one of my posts several years ago. It’s something a lot of us probably do without even thinking about it: We apply a scent at home, then put the spray or vial or mini bottle into to-go mode and head out the door. And after a busy day or week — or in my case, sometime even months ? — we forget to take them all back out again.

Now that we’re rolling into the holiday, it’s time to share our current sniffages. (Is that even a word? Oh, well.)

As for me and my EBPs, I’ve been revisiting Diptyque’s Volutes for these last few chilly days, some vintage Chanel Coco and the new Ferragamo scent (the name of which escapes me). And I think, depending on temps, I’ll either be in Carnal Flower or Clive Christian C for Turkey Day at my darling mother-in-law’s house. It will be a bittersweet holiday, though, as my brother-in-law, who passed away in March, won’t be with us, nor any of his family. But we will do our best to enjoy the day and be thankful for our many blessings.

What about your EBPs? Do have a peek at the bottoms of your purses, backpacks, briefcases, etc., and share your emergency backup perfume: What vials, decants, bottles, etc., are rolling around in there?

And, as always, a word of caution: I try to keep my EBP items in a plastic zip-top baggie (a plastic-lined makeup bag would do nicely) in a feeble attempt at organization, but also mostly because I’m deathly afraid of leakage. Having once had the lining of a handbag stained this way, I’m not eager for a repeat performance. And it is nice to have your scent choices all together and see them at a glance, instead of spread out all loosey-goosey in the bottom of your purse, which is what I used to do, before said accident.

Wishing everyone a very happy and safe Thanksgiving!!

I keep a little baggy of work appropriate fragrances in my purse. The EBP is No 5 Eau Premiere, L’Envol, Iris Celadon, and Tea For Two.

    Hey Ann,
Currently I have a Madonna Truth or Dare roller ball and a Niki de saint phalle 12.5ml travel.
    LOVE THEM BOTH

    • Ann says:

Howdy, dear! Yay for both of those!! I’ve worn TorD fairly recently but need to give some well-deserved love to darling Niki!

  • maggiecat says:

I have a semi-permanent vial of Dame Perfumery’s Earth Mother is my purse, regardless of what I am wearing. It is absolutely gorgeous, and if my SOTD fizzles out, or I need the comfort of smelling beautiful RIGHT NOW it’s there..

    • Ann says:

That is perfect, Maggiecat! Always great to have a gorgeous go-to scent that works anytime, any place!

  • HeidiC says:

Mmmm, your vintage Coco sounds perfect. Right now, I have MDCI’s Fetes Persanes in my bag, and I purposefully put my small spray decants of Cuir de Lancome and the sample of Ciel de GUM you gave me in there over the weekend. For Turkey Day itself, I was going to go with something snuggly, but now I’m thinking of wearing something to cut through all the cooking smells. Maybe Ashoka?

Love to you and your in-laws on this first holiday without your brother-in-law.

    • Ann says:

Thank you, dear Heidi!! And may I say you will smell fabulous with any of those beauties. Something to combat the cooking smells is a great idea. Love and hugs right back to you.

  • AnnieA says:

I’m also thankful for perfume friends near and far. I had nothing in my purse!! Have corrected with Smell Bent Cocoa Rose.

    • Ann says:

Hi!! So glad you’re not “running on empty” any longer — must sniff that Cocoa Rose one of these days, as it sounds wonderful.

  • Musette says:

Good morning and Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you have a stress-free day – you’ll certainly smell great! My EBP is whatever I find in my little makeup bag – currently it’s vintage Arpege extrait (swoooony) and a little sample of the gorgeous 1932~ I usually associate 1932 with warmer weather but I think I’ll leave it in there, see how/if it performs as the temps plunge!

    • Ann says:

Yum — vintage Arpege AND 1932? You could go around the world with those two! Do let us know how it does in the deep freeze. THanks!

  • Jennifer S. says:

I guess I have more summer than winter ebp’s cause they were quicker to spray at the last minute (which is when I decided what to wear) and all the little vials ended up in the pocket of my lunch bag. No spills ever but definitely loosey goosey! The many blessings we may take for granted so often. Reflected upon, and given thanks for.
    A peaceful Thanksgiving all!

    • Ann says:

Loosey-goosey is right, Jennifer — that sounds like my life most of the time!! Wishing the same for you!
