New Releases – CB I Hate Perfume Angelic Conversation, Hiram Green Slowdive

CB I Hate Perfume Angelic Conversation Hiram Green Slowdive

Hey, Merry Christmas!  Seems like a great day to talk about CB  I Hate Perfume Angelic Conversation.  And Hiram Green Slowdive, but I’ll circle back around to that.   They are like my own personal perfume Christmas present!

CB I Hate perfume Angelic Conversation is all natural except a tiny skosh of Russian Leather. Inspired by the scent of skin, it has notes of oud, Ambers, Styrax, Cistus, Labdanum and spices like Nutmeg, Cardamom and Coriander.  Yeah, I looked at that too and though really?  But CB has it right – “For millennia, humans have prized certain substances above all others for their incomparable sensual beauty when worn. We are inexorably drawn to the deep subtle scents of Ambers, musky Resins, rich Spices and leathery Woods. These have been the base of virtually every great perfume of the past century and, even today, their synthetic counterparts are the most common element in all popular fragrance. It seems we cannot imagine “perfume” without them. Modern science begins to explains why – these natural woods and resins contain molecules virtually identical to those we naturally produce ourselves. They literally smell like us. These scents communicate our humanity.”

Makes sense, even though I would not have immediately thought my skin smells like spices, resin, amber and oud.  CB I Hate Perfume Angelic Conversation start with a slightly musty smell, peppered with spices.  It’s got an interested trajectory through oud an resins, but I’ll be damned if it doesn’t slowly smell like my skin, but better – that slightly salty skin that isn’t always what your skin smells like, but what you wish it would smell like.  It’s really beautiful and unlike about anything I can think of.  I keep trying to put it in a category or compare it, and I’m just coming up blank.

Hiram Green Slowdive has notes of neroli, orange flower, tobacco, beeswax, dried fruit, tuberose and resins.  Inspired by tobacco-scented summer air in India.  Yeah, it’s that.  It’s perplexing to me. I love everything Hiram Green does, and I can objectively smell how beautiful this is, but like Serge Lutens Arabie, it might not be something I’ll wear — or maybe I will? The tobacco is rich and pungent, and I completely love it.  The resins and fruit wrap around the tobacco, and it’s not that sweet pipe tobacco, it’s warmer, more sensual. Then playing around the edge is that beeswax/tobacco hay note that has me completely enchanted and somewhat annoyed at the dried fruit. It is gorgeous and complex.  The longer I wear it, the more I love it.    I don’t know, I think I’ll wind up changing my mind once it hits sub-zero. I find myself spraying it on every day, completely in love with parts of it, and still not sure.  For me, that’s the mark of an excellent perfume.

Both I’ve reviewed today have that – complexity, puzzlement, something new you discover every time you wear it. That’s a rare thing.

I’ve never tried a CBIHP! So that would be fun. But I’m especially curious about Slowdive. It sounds fascinating!

  • Peppermoon says:

Not sure if the drawing is closed, I’ll enter just in case because I reaaaally want to try Hiram’s Slow dive. I’m a sucker for beeswax scents. Side note – what’s with all of the angel/skin scents lately? Cuir d’Ange, Decaying Angel, Angelic conversation??

  • Anna Egeria P. says:

I’d love to try both of these fragrances! Thank you so much for the draw. Wishing everyone a joyous holiday season!!!!

  • Sapphire says:

They both sound interesting, though I have a feeling my DH might not like them. But I’m always game to try something new. Thanks for the drawing!

  • springpansy says:

They both sound wonderful. Love the names and the notes. Thanks for the draw.

  • Oh, they both sound gorgeous. I ‘ve got samples of one or two Hiram Greens but have yet to try them because so many other samples to get through! Thank you as always for the educational posts and the giveaways!

  • RoseMacaroon says:

These both sound superb. And I’ve yet to try anything from either line — they both sound like excellent starting points for me though (ridiculous love for both leather and tobacco in fragrance! ). Thank you so much for the chance.

  • AmateurDilletante says:

oh these both sound captivating! I got a bit disheartened at the sheer volume of crappy perfume marketed as niche nowadays, and dropped out for a while. But thanks to blogs like yours It’s easier to weed through the rocks to find the diamonds. Thanks for the draw!

  • Ingeborg says:

Both of these sound interesting. They also both have notes that I love and notes that I find difficult to wear. Would love to sample, so please enter me in the draw!

Happy holidays to all who celebrate, we sure do here! I am taking two extra days off work, so just managed to finish my comments on a report this evening and will try to relax tomorrow. Plenty to do at home and errands to run.

Still angry at UPS for not delivering a parcel at my door, I WAS at home but nobody rang the doorbell or texted me to let me know they tried to deliver last Wednesday, so now I have to get over to a local supermarket to pick up the parcel myself,it is not even in my part of town.

  • Janice says:

Both of these sound intriguing, and almost everything I’ve tried from CB and Hiram Green is interesting and original even if not something I would wear myself, so I look forward to sampling these eventually. Thanks for the draw and happy holidays, Patty!

  • Cindi says:

Your description of scents, tantalize me… I have enjoyed fragrance; since I was a young child! My Aunt Annie had a glass mirror on her vanity, full of tempting beautiful bottles of fragrance. I would sit for hours touching and looking at each bottle. Then, she would spritz a little of a couple of scents, on my wrists.
    Thank you,
    Cindi

  • grizzlesnort says:

  • Kathryn says:

Thanks for the chance to sample these beauties! I do love Hiram Green’s Moon Bloom, so a chance to try Slow Dive is one I can’t pass up. Happy holidays all!

  • AnnJune says:

Thanks for the draw, Patty. Would love to find a new skin scent, and this one sounds perfect. The Hiram Green scent sounds interesting also, although I’m clearly in the minority in not having fallen in love with any of his previous scents. This could be the one ; )

  • MMKinPA says:

I have sampled Dilettante and Arbole Arbole and loved them both. Never tried any CB I hate perfume- how is that possible? Both sound amazing! Happy hump day!

  • Christine B says:

Oh man these perfumes sound beautiful. I would love to sample them.

Hope you and yours are have a wonderful holiday.

  • Lemoncake says:

I have some definite favorites from both CB and Hiram Green – would love to try these. The tobacco, beeswax and honey in Slowdive is intriguing. But also love the idea of a skin scent that is a bit spicy. Thanks for the draw!

  • Queen Cupcake says:

Patty, every time I think I am full up with samples, you come up with something that sounds amazing. So count me in, I would love to sample these. Warm wishes for all at Solstice and a Happy Christmas, too!

  • cinnamon says:

They both sound interesting. Most curious about Slowdive, as I love Dilettante and have been wearing Arabie quite a bit.

  • Jennifer S. says:

Ooh. These sound intriguing and what a mix of notes! I can see why you’d have to wear them for a bit and contemplate. But that’s what’s great about niche!

Love the old fashioned greeting card btw. And thanks for the chance!

  • shiva-woman says:

The Hiram Green is for me! I really liked this article because I’m so drawn to woods, resins, incense and throw in some tobacco or immortelle, honey too. Those are frequently in combination or separately what I gravitate to. I’m headed for Slowdive.

  • Gigi says:

I’m so excited for Slowdive! It sounds like the name might be a great fit too…maybe not love at first sniff for you but over time, perhaps a slow dive into true love 🙂

  • Angelic Conversations sounds amazing, I do love a good skin scent.

  • LisaInDenver says:

So excited to see your review of the new Hiram Green! I just admire everything he’s created, and treated myself to 10 ml bottles of Moon Bloom and Dilettante during Twisted Lily’s holiday sale ($36 each…a great deal!). Slowdive sounds like another winner, and it’s probably more appropriate for the cold weather that’s about to descend upon us!

I really like several of Brosius’ scents – 7 Billion Hearts is particularly stunning – and Angelic Conversation sounds intriguing. I prefer his absolutes to his water essences, but the former are just so spendy that I haven’t splurged on one yet. Thanks for the reviews and the opportunity of the drawing. Happy holidays to you and everyone reading, and stay warm!

  • Kathryn says:

Yes, you’re right–I definitely want to sample both of these. Actually, I’m strongly tempted just to go ahead and blind buy small bottles of each of these since CB and Hiram Green seldom disappoint.

  • Kandice says:

I love Hiram Green, and his new fragrance sounds amazing. I will have to definitely try that as I love most fragrances with a hint of tobacco. Angelic Conversations sounds intriguing and not something I would have tried without reading about it here. Thanks for the opportunity to try both!

  • Pam says:

Ok, both perfumes sound amazing. I would love to try them. Thanks for the drawing.

  • Janet in California says:

They both sound interesting in the best way! Happy holidays and thanks for the draw.

  • HeidiC says:

So the Angelic Conversations is basically just a base? Hmmm. It sounds interesting, but not compelling. The Slowdive sounds fantastic though — I’ve enjoyed all the samples of HG I’ve tried, especially Dilettante. Thanks for the draw!

  • audesko1 says:

Happy Holidays and I hope I win. They both sound great! Thanks for the chance.

  • karibub says:

Your word pictures of these two make them a must-try for me. Merry Christmas!

  • dquinton13 says:

These sound amazing! Love re-thinking what winter means in scent.

  • Tara C says:

Those both sound fab! Looking forward to sniffing those and the new Zoologist Camel, which sounds like vintage Serge.

  • R_UN says:

Ooh, sounds lovely and oh so festive! Thanks for the draw…
