FRÉDÉRIC MALLE Music For A While

Frédéric Malle is one of those houses that for some reason I never drooled over in quite the way I did with Uncle Serge. Why I do not know: I have and love several of their fragrances (and even went to the trouble of ordering French Lover from the EU because I like the name better than Bois d’Orage) and wouldn’t want to be without them. Even the ones that I would not personally wear (Lipstick Rose, Carnal Flower) I can appreciate.hat

Malle recently opened a stand-alone store (the first in the western US) on uber-hip Melrose Place, that short street that shoots off of Melrose at Orlando and terminates at La Cienega. Melrose Place has, over the years transformed from a sleepy street of antique stores to West Hollywood’s version of Rodeo Drive (even if the street is physically in Los Angeles.)

One of our ‘fume friends passed on a Facebook invite to the boutique to experience Music For A While, as well as chocolate by Milla and teas by Kollo; both LA, both delicious.

So how is Music For A While? Delicious. Notes (from Barney’s)

Top notes: bergamot, lemon, orange, mandarin.
Middle notes: lavender, pineapple, rose, jasmin, cinnamon.
Base notes: patchouli, labdanum, vanilla

I get immediate pineapple, with the lavender weaving in and out. The pineapple has that human aspect to it that Patou Colony had and I loved. I may need a bottle.

$310 for 100 ML at the usual suspects, but if you are in LA drop by the store on Melrose Place- the staff is wonderful. My sample came from the boutique. Image: Barneys

Sorry this is brief- blogger has deleted 3. drafts

Sadly, Lauder now owns FM, re-formulations coming soon. 🙁

PS Forgot to mention that I love pineapple in perfume!

Frédéric Malle and Tom Ford are two that I have not really sampled. Recently, I sampled some of Tom Ford’s perfumes and they were OK and pleasant, but definitely not worth the price to me. Frédéric Malle is the other line I decided I should explore and will now add Music for a While to my list. And I agree, French Lover is a great name.

I never really had a Tom Ford that I needed in the way that I did (and do) with several Malles

    Pineapple and lavender sounds BIZARRE

  • Tom Pease says:

It really grew on me the more that I wore it. I would have waxed on but Blogger was driving me bats randomly deleting parts of the post. 16 hours later in the AM before my morning ablutions I can still get little whiffs of it. A winner.

Looking forward to trying this! xoxoxo
