Heat wave Monday

heat wave
Howdy, dear Posse folks! Happy July! (Can it really be July already? Yikes!) So how about a show of hands — how many of you are sweltering in this crazy heat wave that’s gripped a swath of the U.S. lately? In my neck of the woods, it’s not been that bad, mostly the typical 90 to 92, but I really feel for you guys who’ve had to deal with high 90s and even triple-digit temps. There’s no doubt — summer is here to stay!

I know a few years ago the thermometer left 100 in the dust and our poor old A/C just could not keep up. My boys were at the beach, so I stayed at the library most of the day; then that night put the window unit on in the guest room for an hour or two before bed, soaked my wrists in cold water, put on the lightest, coolest cotton nightgown I could find and cranked the ceiling fan to the max. I think I also put one of those cooling neck wraps to good use.

So what do you reach for when a heat wave hits home? I’ve been living in Clinique’s Calyx, Chanel Eau de Cologne and Guerlain’s Aqua Allegoria Mandarine Basilic (sp?) and their Cologne du Parfumeur, plus my wee bit of AA Herba Fresca, when I can find it. Stick ’em in the fridge and spritz/splash for an instant cool down; even if it only lasts a few minutes, your nose will be happy for a while.

Of course, some folks take the opposite tack and pull out some summer heavy-hitters to embrace the heat wave, and that’s OK, too.

So please share with us how you’re keeping your cool this summer. Hope everyone stays in the chill zone, is keeping hydrated and keeps thinking cool thoughts. Autumn is only a few months away, right?

I have been going with a simple ginger theme the past few days… Origins Ginger Essence, Marc Jacobs Ginger cocktail splash, and Hilde Soiliani’s very fizzy ginger Freschiiissimo

Close to 100 here in Dallas, but that’s typical summer weather for us. Grateful for air conditioning! Summer scents for me include AG Eau d’Hadrien, MFK Aqua Vitae, and L’Occitane Jasmin et Bergamote. Fragonard Frivole is also a new favorite!

  • March says:

Ugh it’s rough here today! And for a few days more…. I think Musette’s weather showed up on the coast, lol. For me it’s been tea scents, my decant of that new-ish Diptyque, and something I’m reviewing tomorrow…

Upper 90s over the past few days, but today is overcast and cooler, only in the mid-80s (funny how that feels cool, right?). I’ve been in California Reverie — which is basically a very floralated cologne — lately.

Upper nineties and humid here in the northeast. No ac, just fans and the house faces south with lots of windows so…heat blast! Ugh. This is why I go to work everyday in the summer lol. Scents I would wear at home would just sweat away so I don’t put any on.

Kenilworth Il has been sizzling hot with humid thick air. Today is cooler…happy dance. But the old timer 4711 is a good splash and very cooling without feeling heavy. Alls I can be sayin is THANK GOODNESS FOR THE AC in the house!!! My 1984 BMW, old but runs very well and everyone wants to buy it car, is in the shop for some coolant whatever they call it and fan adjustment.
But all that said…..having Seasons is a good thing!

It’s been in the 90’s here and very humid. Part of my house isn’t insulated that well, so the A/C is useless in that part of the house but it’s still on. I have taken to wearing Kyoto because it’s refreshing but not much else except Avignon.

I like the cool stony interior of Messe di Minuit or the bitter green hemp of En Voyage Go Ask Alice in the heat, along with summer staples Un Jardin Sur le Nil and L’Artisan Seville l’Aube. It seemed like we had 8 months of winter this year and I’m kind of embracing the heat although we do have the AC on.

  • Kathleen says:

Denver hit a record high of 105 last week, otherwise mid 90’s. I’ve been wearing Habanita La Cologne. Not sure why Habanita is hitting the mark these days with heat but I’m loving it!

  • Musette says:

it’s 67F here right now – unbelievably refreshing after some triple-digit days. On the hottest days I went Full Perverse and pulled out Amouage Attar Tribute which, after all, is made for stunning heat! OMG! GLO.RI. OUS! Also, Amouage Jubilation 25 body crème which becomes this subtle ‘skin scent’ in extreme heat.

And Carnal Flower. Everything. Body Butter, Perfume, Hair Mist.

    Because why not, right?

    xoxoxo

It’s been ridiculously hot in Minneapolis, too — 102 on Friday. I swing between cold and/or refreshing — No 19 or Pamplelune — or just going with the sultry and wearing Salome or SL’s Fleurs d’Oranger.

  • Cyndi says:

Temperatures in the 90s here also. Plus I have bronchitis, and in the humidity it’s unbearable – at least to me. Spraying myself with D&G Light Blue or Chanel’s No.5 eau Premiere (sp.?). A/C on full blast!

  • Tara C says:

It’s 110F with the humidex here in Montreal, I am hiding in my condo with the AC blasting. It’s supposed to be hot all week. I am wearing Le Labo Ylang 49, Atelier Cologne Blanche Immortelle and Lancome Lavandes Trianon.

  • Maya says:

It hit at least 99F here in CT today, Sunday. It’s almost 8:30PM and it’s still in the 90s! Awful. Humidity is supposed to get much worse tonight and tomorrow is supposed to be almost as high as today. AC is running full blast and non-stop. I’m happy with the perfume I’m wearing – Santa Maria Novella Caprifoglio.
