Honey Blossom by Aftelier Perfumes

Hi there Posse! It’s winter here in Sydney. A lovely warm winter that has felt much more like spring. I’m wearing loads of different stuff but today I felt the need to douse myself in some deliciously fresh Honey Blossom by Mandy Aftel. I unearthed a bunch of stuff during the recent cleanup around here that had lain forgotten in boxes. Honey Blossom is one of the treasures refound. This review is about the extrait, mine is a 2ml bottle I bought a year or two ago in a beautifully packaged set.

I love most of Mandy’s work and I wrote about the reboot of Parfum de Maroc last year.

Here’s what the Aftelier site has to say about Honey Blossom
Character: Soliflore, sheer, light, sweet, happy, transparent, floral.
Fragrant Notes: linden blossom, mimosa, orange flower, tea rose and ambergris.
Beautiful honeyed floral, hypnotic with notes of honeysuckle. If there were a flower that smelled like honey, this would be it. Sheer and reminiscent of being in a meadow, this light floral is a perfect pairing for warmer weather.

Honey Blossom gives me a soft voiced sappy green opening tinged with furry, animalic hints of honey and a further radiant orange blossom. The slightly pissy funk of linden undercuts all of these.

Later through the fragrances life the animal funk is heightened, but not overwhelming. I also get a woodiness, nothing specific. A general lumber yard wood cutting smell, like sawdust in the sun.

SUN! I’ve said sun now and it’s given me the perfect analogy; like walking through a sunlit drenched park in spring. The flowers are out, bees are buzzing and the gardeners are doing some work nearby. Fresh sawdust and sugar cane mulch and turned soil, it’s like warm sun on your back and you are pleased to be alive.

Honey Blossom wears close and soft after the first hour, like most naturals and extraits.

Surrender To Chance has samples of the EdP.

Does it appeal to you?

I really loved your review. I have been wanting to try out Honey perfume since ages, but I never got a chance. However, your review does motivate me to stand up and go to buy the Honey Blossom Perfume. I’ll also join the demand for wedding details, lol.

How does this compare to Amoureuse? Also…wedding details :)?

    • Portia says:

      Hi ElizabethC,
There is no bilge/old flower water or lily in Honey Blossom so they read totally different on my skin but I wasn’t looking for correlations. I must side by side them, thanks for the idea.
HA! Yes, next week there will be pics. PROMISE!

I like honey scents (Kilian Back to Black, Hiram Green Slowdive, JM Honey Crocus) but I’m not sure about the skank aspect you mention about this Aftelier. Would g8ve it a spritz though.
