Happy June and some shoe help, please

shoeHappy June, all you wonderful Posse folks!! Don’t know about where you are, but late May and the start of June have kicked off like a firecracker with 90s temps here in the South. Yikes! Makes one wonder what July and August will do! Anyhoo, to get back on topic, I am currently dealing with a shoe issue and need some of your great advice.

Some of you may know that I was laid off early this year for lack of work at my office. I was unemployed for several months, but just started a new job in retail in mid-May. I have a lot of fashion knowledge and experience from working at the Apparel Mart and my years of editing fashion at various newspapers. So this is my first go at an actual, grass-roots retail job. So far, I’m loving the customers and working on the floor with live fashion, but the learning curve is a bit steep, from working the register, the paperwork, and all the loss-prevention stuff, etc. But my biggest hurdle is having to stand for multiple hours a day. In other departments, employees can wear sneakers, but not in mine, since it’s more high-end.

So I’m wondering what brands/styles you all suggest for cute but very comfortable and supportive shoes (flats or very low heels). Any help you guys could offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, everyone, and have a great week!!

The brand Ara has some nice near-flat shoes in classic design. Some seasons Austrian brand Christian Dietz will have nice designs, but looking at their website now, I didn’t find more than one shoe meeting your criteria, I think.

  • Dina C. says:

Naot is another great comfort brand.

  • Tatiana says:

Margaux. Available on line. Have flat and mid heel pumps. Classic, pretty, comfortable shoes. I also like AGL ballet flats available at Nordstrom. And Paul Green shoes.

  • Sapphire says:

Ecco and Dansko would be my go-to’s along with Born. I also like some of the Clark’s like their Unstructured line.

  • Koyel says:

Heh, there are a lot of different suggestions here–I’ll throw in mine, which is Ecco! Nicely supportive and super cute. And don’t forget orthotics. Many shoe stores can help you find the right inserts to relieve your foot pain. Congrats on the new job!

  • Ann says:

Wow — so many great suggestions!! Thanks so much, everyone — you all are the best!!

  • Ellen says:

Try Munro, Soft Walk and Rockport as well as what’s suggested above.

  • Maggiecat says:

Clarks work well for me. Try a few brands that have arch support and cushioning. Good luck!

  • Phyllis Iervello says:

Merrill for hiking and walking shoes and also their sandals are comfortable and more supportable than most.

  • Kathleen says:

I’ll also agree with Dansko. I used to work clinical nursing on my feet for 12 hours shifts and they were wonderful. I’ve noticed they now make more fashionable shoe styles besides the clogs that I used to wear.

  • MMKinPA says:

I love my Dansko. They make some cute wedges and (not completely flat) flats. Right now my favorite wedge sandals are spring step l’artiste. As long as I have a wedge I’m usually good.

  • Cee says:

Bzees are great. They come in a variety of styles and heel heights, they are comfy and very light weight, washable and have regular and wide widths. I have half a dozen pair. Love ’em!

  • Rina (NOT in CAN) says:

Aerosole are cute and super comfy. For classic ballet flats I like Lucky Brand or ME TOO (LOTS of padding!). If you’re somewhere that carries them and get a discount, Pliners are redic. comfy but $$$$$.

I wore heels ever day at my job. I doubt that I could walk very far in them today. I now wear a brand called Alegria. They come in many styles and are leather. You can order shoes from their website and they also have a rewards program. Only brand I now wear. Good luck!

Easy Spirit! Well made and cute and designed to be comfortable
