Fireworks fragrance and a happy July Fourth week

fireworks
With the Fourth of July holiday coming up soon (Thursday) for our Posse peeps in the U.S., and the parades, picnics and fireworks that go with it, I pondered, as I always do, which scents set off fireworks in my brain.

As always, Clinique Wrappings leaps to the fore. It bowled me over (almost literally) when I first sniffed it way back when (1990, according to Basenotes). “Fizzy,” “boozy,” “effervescent,” and “nose tickling” were a few of the impressions that ricocheted around in my head after my initial spray. I remember thinking, “Mmmm, now this is what champagne should smell like.”

Wrappings is such a great hot-weather scent that I’m not sure why Clinique only sells it around the winter holidays (and only at a select few department store counters). Sure, I get the play on gift wrap, and I can understand that it might be seen as having kind of a winter vibe to some noses, but I think it easily could be a best-seller for them year-round. Maybe they could market it as “the sophisticated girl’s Happy” (or “the tipsy girl’s Happy,” ha!) or something. I know people who simply adore it and would buy it by the caseload in any season.

Another scent that’s got plenty of sparkle and razzle-dazzle (at least for me), is Gucci Rush. This scent’s got such oomph, such personality, that it would have been right at home under the mirror balls of the disco era, and right on through today. Amouage’s Interlude Woman is not so much fireworks on me as a crazy, herky-jerky roller-coaster ride, but it’s surely explosive (at least for me). And Byredo’s Pulp, and Clinique’s Calyx, with their effervescent, juicy fruit bombiness, rank right up there also as fireworks scents.

Hope everyone has a great week and a fun Fourth, if you celebrate it!

    Hey Ann,
For fireworks I read smoke and incense. So CdG Kyoto or Parfum d’Empire Cuir Ottoman, with their smoky incense and birch fit the bill for me.

it’s been in the 90s here, followed by torrential rains, then more 90s – I’m up @ 5a to do a bit of weeding, then a shower and off to the salt mines – I’m wearing a lot of lemon in the early hours because it’ll hang around a bit (Marc Jacobs Lemon, Fresh Lemon Sugar) but by lunch they’re gone, which is when I apply the Big’Uns – Amouage Tribute attar, with that smoky/charcoal-y undertone and (or) a big ol’ whack of Jube25. and…omgosh! you know what works beautifully in this heat? Chanel Cuir de Russie PARFUM! Sweatergawd! Who knew???!!!

    Happy 4th!

Green scents give me “fireworks” too because I love that category. I always wear Cartier Declaration on July 4th because the pun amuses me, and I’m a nerd that way. 😀

    • Ann says:

Love that, Dina! Need to go back and try Declaration again — I’ve sampled it a while back and can’t remember it. Have a lovely 4th!!

I just wore Rush yesterday, it’s a summer favorite of mine, so fun to wear and perfect for sultry evenings. Every holiday season I try to get to a counter that has Wrappings but you’re right, it is hard to find. I’m still not sure if it works for me or not. Good suggestions, Ann 🙂

    • Ann says:

Howdy, dear! Rush is great, isn’t it? If you’re still on the fence about Wrappings, Surrender to Chance has samples so you can play with it a little more and see if it works for you before you invest in a whole bottle. I’ve got at least 3 or 4 sample sprays/vials of it rattling around here somewhere, ha! Have a great 4th!

Setting off fireworks for me lately: Fendi Theorema Esrit d’Ete and Chanel Allure pour Homme Edition Blanche. I’m watching the sun set over the Olympic Mountains (I’m in Seattle) and appreciating the beauty of the world despite my discouragement over the problems that beset us. Happy 4th to the U.S. perfumistas.

Nice choices there! Lucky you to live in such a beautiful area. I need to get out there to see Seattle and also have a half-sister in Oregon (maybe when DS is in college, DH and I can travel a bit more). And you’re right, we do have to appreciate the good things in our lives. Happy 4th to you too!
