Little Pleasures & a WINNER!

All Autumn in a Day is happening here, sweatergawd!  It went from 80s to 60s in 24 hrs!  I went to a friend’s bonfire on Saturday (remember, it’s still AUGUST) and we were in jackets!  Fleece!  Now it’s raining. (still August, don’t forget!)

So, naturally, I’m turning inward.  The grasshopper is morphing into the ant, looking at the state of my house, preparatory to closing it up for the coming season for, to be sure, WINTER IS COMING!

Yah, I know it’ll probably soar back up to the 80s before plunging for real Autumn but hey!  Winter really is coming.

In  Summer I couldn’t care less what my house smells like because it’s always open to the elements anyway and, anyway, I’m never in it.  Come chillier times, though, I really need it to smell pleasant because there are days when, other than taking The Girl  out, I’m in.  All. Damb. Day.  Yes, I still have (and love) my Aera and I have my Amouage and Trapp candles…but I’m always looking for extra little home pleasures because half the fun of those little pleasures is that they’re so little!  I might’ve blathered on about my recent visit to the Trapp mothership in Kansas City, where I lost my natural mind!  Omg, I bought so many room sprays and melts!  My new fave is Golden Cypress (Bob’s Flower Shoppe will forever be my First Love) ; not quite as ‘foresty’ as Foret or Thymes Fraser Fir it still gives that hint of resinous pine (but not Pine-Sol pine!  omg.  that is sooo painful, like those cheap car air fresheners!).  Golden Cypress isn’t a forest – it’s a lovely brush against evergreens on a sunny day.

But!  That’s practically NOTHING! compared to the Happy Accident that is Agraria’s Citrus Lily by Monique Lhullier.   OMG.  It smells persackly like my garden on a hot July evening.  Lush lilies cut with Italian lemon & bergamot, with none of the gag-inducing sweetness on the drydown.  I swan, if I hit Lotto I would wash my floors with the diffuser oil!  Though, come to think of it, if I hit Lotto I would have someone else washing the floors – but they could wash them with the diffuser oil, right? Beats washing the floors with Pine-Sol.   I was online to buy some replacement sola (paper thin balsa wood) flowers (these are MIGHTY for fragrance throw, even better than the orange sticks) and kept ogling the gorgeous floral designs of the Citrus Lily – I didn’t want to plonk down $180 on a ‘maybe’ (lily can be a tricky, hot mess) so I boobled around a bit more ……..and……..would you look at this!

citrus & floral collection! Be Still, my HEART!!!

$40 for the set!  And…yes!  The lily is sheer perfection!  I already know (and love ) the Bitter Orange but the other 3 are unknowns and I think I am gonna have BIG FUN playing with these room sprays.

…..y’know…..Winter might not be so bad after all, hmmm?

What about you all?  Has the Season turned yet (this is awfy early, imo)?  Are you closing up or, as in the case of Portia  (and others below the Equator) getting ready to open up?  any new home scents?

Oh!  Before I forget!  The WINNER of the Amouage Portrayal (and Creed Aventus) post:  Gina Tabasso!  Gmail me at evilauntieanita so I can get it out to you!

Temperatures plunged to the mid-90’s – and even the upper 80’s! – yesterday after a “cold” front came through Dallas. At 9 PM it was 82, instead of 95, a definite improvement. Not sure this qualifies as “fall” though – we’re just relieved to be out of triple digits and looking forward to some brisk winds (probably October). I love Fall and Winter, so I’m onboard.

I’m with Musette. I do not love autumn. Autumn has some lovely days and beautiful foliage here in NE but it means winter is coming. I love spring with warm breezes, longer days, and more sunshine. Everything comes alive again. Happy days!
Right now I am wearing/sampling Provision Maitri. It’s a vetiver (not a favorite note) but it’s not heavy. I think I could grow to like this one. It would be a good autumn fragrance.

Virginia has finally begun to cool down, and I say “thank God!” It has been one of the hottest summers on record for us. I’m also a big Autumn lover. Already started to get out the deep, dark greens. Today I’m wearing OJ Woman, and it’s amazing. 😀 I like to burn a scented candle once in a while, but don’t have anything for the autumn season on hand.

    • Musette says:

I haven’t worn OJ Woman in a lonnnng time – but I remember liking it a lot!!! My candle/diffuser jam doesn’t seem to adhere to a particular season – I’m just as likely to burn/diffuse a Christmas scent in July as I am in December – I think that’s mostly because I am lazy, with a scattered mind. 😉 xoxoxo

    Congratulations Gina!
It is still hot here, we had another record high the other day. However, I can feel the mornings and evenings are a tad cooler and with noticeable less daylight. Fall is my favorite season, I could live in it all year. I haven’t started burning candles yet which I love to do in colder weather. I’ve had my Aera on all summer.

another Autumnite! LOL! Yeah, I get it – there are some really lovely aspects of Autumn. But….then….WINTER! yikes! And I probably wouldn’t even mind Winter, except for the ice. YIKES!

      xoxo

Excellent post! I am now on the lookout for Agraria’s citrus and floral collection. I’m currently in Utrecht, NL where the expected high today is 32 degrees Celsius. I live in Montreal, CA where the temps are high and will be through September. Last winter was long and slippery with lots of freezing rain and ice coverage so I have no desire to think about it. Lol! BTW, has anyone heard anything about Loris perfumes, based in Utrecht and not to be confused with Loris Azzaro?

    • Musette says:

I love Utrecht! Very good friends live there and awhile back I chatting with one of them about Loris – alas, he is totally Guy and totally non-perfumista and reacted as if I’d asked him to get me some C-4, so other than knowing about them I couldn’t tell you much.

Last winter was HORRID. No need to anticipate it until you have to haul out the boots and chains. Enjoy your visit!

Interesting, a Dutch perfumer. No idea why this is a new idea to me, with Thai, German, Canadian, and other perfumers out there

  • Gina Tabasso says:

OMG OMG OMG, my first time as a winner here. Thank you so very very much. I really love reading this blog. Blessings to you for paying it forward. I will do the same and share the love of fragrance with anyone who I can.

You can feel the cool undercurrents in the air and it is dropping into the low 50’s (13C) at night. Yay for fall!! I have my IUNX Papyrus candle all ready to go. Also want to try the new Diptyque Ambre Narguilé candle.

    • Musette says:

Alas, I don’t greet Autumn with the same enthusiasm as you, though there is a bit of anticipation. Tbh, though, that anticipation is more in line with the anticipation of the coming Spring, if that makes any sense at all? xoxoxo
