Win Some, Lose Some

Hey, so, here’s what I hate about drawings: only one person’s a winner.

I have friends who always seem to win sweepstakes-type deals, or drawings — work drawings, fundraisers, etc.  I have other friends who’ve repeatedly won small-to-decent amounts at no-skill-necessary casino games like playing the slot machines.

I never, ever win those things– do you?  I’m resigned to it, more or less.  I remind myself that my particular area of luck is what I call “parking karma” — generally I can roll right up to the front of some building or event in my car and boom there’s a parking space.  My parking karma works great at the mall and near doctor’s offices and in urban areas in general. If you need to go somewhere that has scant parking, ask me to drive.

You know what you absolutely don’t want to do?  Get behind me in a queue at any cash register.  The second I step into line, the whole cash economy opens up a black hole in front of me– some guy decides to pay for his groceries in pennies, or he can’t find his wallet; the cash register breaks or runs out of tape; the credit card scanner goes down suddenly and inexplicably.  I don’t care if I’m the third (and last) person in my line, and the other line snakes halfway around the store — get in that other line.  I’ll still be standing there, fuming, when you walk out.

Do you have parking karma or some other weird, random area of luck in your life?  Do you win sweepstakes?

The winner of the Femme draw, chosen by random.org, is Sherobin; thanks to all of you for playing, and I’m sorry I can’t send each one of you a vintage bottle.  Cheers.

I also have parking karma (and what’s even more efficient, a handicapped parking placard, which, sadly, I need. I’m popular around holiday shopping times though…). And I’m also someone behind whom you never want to stand in line. I wonder if those things go together?
Oh! And I can also get spots out of clothes! Now there’s a useful superpower for a soccer mom!

    Congrats!
I, too, have some skill with finding things….parking places or lost items, but strangely my “powers” seem to work only when I’m not driving or when the lost item is not actually mine. Huh.

I have really good luck, and win things often! Congratulations, Sherobin, you are going to LOVE the Femme!

I am the ‘finder’ of misplaced items in our house. Anything that’s in lost status comes right to my attention and since my husband is the one who most consistently loses things, well….he’s come to really appreciate my indoor tracking skills!

The only time I have won a raffle or sweepstakes was about 3 or for years ago at work. It was only a $25 gift card but it was something. They shortly did away with drawings at work. So many of us at work had said that those things could be fun but it was the same people winning over and over again. And when those same people were winning 3 or 4 of the drawings of big ticket items, we wondered if there was a scam going on. So, no more drawings.

    • March says:

Yeah, that stinks — I don’t know quite how it would work but I’ve always felt that if you’ve won last time or multiple times or in the last year or whatever, your name should be removed from the drawing.

    • March says:

LOL same — my kids think I have some sort of mystical powers. I admit I am good at sleuthing, plus I test high on those vision games where you spot the details, so I think I’m just better than average at “seeing” things.

  • Sherobin says:

Oh wow!!! Thank you, March!! And thanks for the congrats, everyone!! I can’t wait to try this!! And I’ll be sure to pay it forward! For a win this nice I figure I owe providence a few extra, tbh. Naturally I’ve been reading up on the legendary Rochas Femme. I’m a huge fan of Mitsouko (even though it took me years to grow into being actually able to wear it), so I am SO excited to see what all the fuss is about with the other best-loved, classic, fruity animalic chypre. My daughter made a beautiful plum tart yesterday, so it must have been a foreshadowing… Both my parking and perfume karma have tended to be on the good side. I never have any luck with housework, though….wonder why…….?

My mother has parking karma. I got nuthin.
