Marions Nous by Oriza L. Legrand

Hi Posse. Marions Nous is a new bottle to my collection. I grabbed it from a FaceBook Sale Doc recently and am loving it sick. You may know I particularly love the house of Oriza L Legrand. They are a revitalised company, brought back from extinction by Franck & Hugo and now with a beautiful shop in Paris at 18 rue Saint-Augustin – Paris 2ème. Chock full of fragrance, soaps and a slew of other beautiful perfumed items the store is an homage to the brands vintage. Not only recreated old fragrances from the past but also loads of brand new ones created in the 21st century but with a definite lean towards historic French fine fragrance.

Marions Nous by Oriza L. Legrand 2014

Parfumo gives these featured accords:
Top: Orange blossom, Rose, Jasmine, Hyacinth
Heart: Carnation, Clove, Iris, Aldehydes, Ylang-ylang
Base: Tonka bean, Civet, Tonkin musk, Sandalwood

If you like aldehydes then Marions Nous will definitely tickle your fancy. Also, every time I wear it someone says “Ooh, you smell so powdery.” In a nutshell that’s what you’ll be getting, an aldehydic powder bomb with excellent projection, sillage and longevity. For those of us with scent devouring skin this line is a Godsend.

On initial application Marions Nous is a citrus/floral with so much aldehyde sparkle it could light the sky. Think CHANEL No 22 on steroids, yet the Oriza crew manages to make it less confronting and metallic. Although I get a bouquet rather than specific notes there are definite pops of rose, carnation, clove and the powderiest iris (it smells more like heliotrope really). It’s a fluffy, voluminous swathe of fragrance that completely envelops me. My advice is to err on the side of spritz caution here, the first hour or so is explosive.

Once the initial firework display calms I am left with a perfumed powder scent. It lasts like this for hours and hours and getting whiffs of Marions Nous   is a pleasant surprise up to 12 hours later.

The whole time it smells like I’ve taken a step back in time to a place where being fragrant is just what we do. Rich and luxurious, wearing Marions Nous has all the hallmarks of how I would expect the people in those grand ballroom scenes of movies would smell. Yes, I know aldehydes weren’t around then but the fully fragrant powdery bouquet with an animalic sandalwoodsy base was. Stop treading on my dreams. Even the presentation feels old school with the heavy, bevelled bottle, tassel and gold embossed name plate.

Do you like powdery aldehydes?

I love this fragrance and this house. Plus their shop in Paris is such a gem, owners could not be kinder, and I agree with you on the soap. I’m not usually too influenced by packaging, I think but I have this fondness for tassels on perfume bottles (don’t ask my why). Marions-nous might actually be my favourite of this line. Have you tried all of them?

    • Portia Turbo says:

      Hey Austenfan,
Yes, I’ve tried most of them. Had the first sample box and bought Jardin d’Armide on my first visit to the shop back in 2014. Then I fell in love with the soaps and love to use and gift them. There are a couple of others in the line I would love to FB on.Yeah, the shop is 100% fabulous. A Paris must do.Portia xx

I own and love this. Very vintage powdery aldehyde in the line of Mitsouko and others. I love it.

I’m not crazy about powdery aldehydes but WOW that bottle and packaging is GORGEOUS — Beaux Arts, maybe?  Whatever, I am now really wanting to visit their shop, I am waaaaay overdue for a trip to Paris.

The shop is so fabulous March. Make sure you let the guys know you’re coming. They’re so sweet and the products are excellent, some olde worlde recreations and others brand spanking new. They are honest about getting as close to the original with modern materials and really love fragrance.Their soaps are 2DIE4.
