Celine: Black Tie review (his and her scents)

Hello, Posse folks, and happy March! Spring is on the way!

I have always admired Celine handbags, very chic and stylish without being over-the top and ostentatious, as some handbag lines can be. So I was quite happy to see that Surrender to Chance* is carrying the French designer’s scents Black Tie and St. Germain des Pres.

Both are quite nice, but the Black Tie appealed to me the most. It’s got a soft, woodsy vibe with underpinnings of slightly sweet vanilla. Sort of a YSBB (your skin but better) scent that you could spray liberally throughout the day and enjoy its soft veil surrounding you for hours. And it would likely be very office-friendly as well.

Here’s the description from Celine and STC: “A couturier’s perfume, the exact olfactory interpretation of his style in relation to fashion: his obsession with black and a tailored silhouette.” A vanilla perfume that is androgynous. Inspired by lacquered satin, a dinner jacket, it has notes of white orris butter, cedar, tree moss, vanilla and musk.

And I heartily agree: It would smell great on a guy as well. So DH took one for the team and gamely tried it on for me. As I suspected, it was terrific on him. This is definitely one bottle that could share his ‘n’ her space on the vanity, bedroom dresser, perfume shelf, etc. Black Tie would fit in nicely with other shareable scents that I like such as Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb, Costes 2 and L’Artisan’s Havana Vanille.

So what about you? What are your favorite unisex scents? What do you share with your significant other (or think would smell great on him or her)?

(*March sneaks in with a disclosure: Patty from the Posse owns StC, from which we occasionally order samples; Patty doesn’t run that part of the biz, doesn’t know what we buy, and never asks us to review anything.)

Hey Ann. This looks so glam. Excellent packaging.
The only fragrances that Jin and I both have in our collection are CHANEL Antaeus, Neela Vermeire Bombay Bling and Lutens Muscs Koublai Khan. We don’t have to do unisex per se but it’s interesting that’s the only cross over.

I now share all my scents with The Girl – but back in the Wayback, I would spritz El O with Fracas, which was a HUGE hit with women – seriously. I wear a lot of masculine-leaning and unisex scents, most notably Creed Aventus, G’s Habit Rouge (omgosh, so lovely) and their Cologne Imperiale.

this is one of the articles that K sent me (the one from Elle with the shocking advertisement on the back page) – apparently there are (gasp!) NINE of the Celines. NINE!

Black Tie sounds lovely! My husband and I share a bottle of Lalique Encre Noire, I love it but it smells best on him.

Beene’s Grey Flannel, CD Eau Sauvage, Hermes Eau de Gentiane Blanche & Orange Vert are my unisex solids.

I sometimes wear Guerlain Vetiver which I really like.
    I also wear Habit Rouge.

I just wore L’Occitiane Eau des Baux this week which I think is quite unisex. Chergui is another. I have always loved spicy things!
