SOTD 24.4.2020

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else SOTD choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and Perfume Posse people love to chat. We like to keep it fragrant but there’s always room for life events and adventures too. This is our place to share how we smell, live, love, eat, work, raise kids and pets and get on with the business of living.

Perfume Posse SOTD

SOTD 24.4.2020

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz. Whenever you feel the mood take you, share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at Perfume Posse, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your SOTD comment. Then you can reply to them, and so on.

Go To It Crew.

Shakespeare ‘Lovers Complain’ for me today. Back in the office and already the emails are driving me mad. Thank goodness i smell so damm lovely.
Portia – have you tried any of this line when you’ve been at City Perfume? I think Brigitte would adore the bottle xx

  • Cassieflower says:

This morning sprayed on lots of Organza Indecence. A bit later I went back and sprayed on several more. That’s better.

  • AustralianPerfumeJunkies says:

Tonight I had the most delicious Rose Jam by LUSH bubble bath. Then threw on Brigitte amounts of Mon Guerlain Florale. It’s an infinitely more wearable version. Much wetter, less intense and less sweet and it smells like they’ve added a hefty done of peony. YUMMERS!

Took the dogs walking through the spitting rain this evening too. It was so calm and serene out there on the streets of our neighbourhood. I feel invigorated.

  • Melanie says:

BF Ummagumma left wrist, Montale Amanda’s Orientales right. And thunk goes these two samples.
    Ummagumma is the winner!

  • Carolyn says:

Another Nui Cobalt Designs creation tonight…Hoodwink. Website describes as: tall glass of Thai iced tea sweetened with Tupelo honey and swirled with vanilla rice milk. I think that pretty accurately sums it up. A really comforting scent.

  • Cassieflower says:

EL Sensuous Nude. A skin scent in me, but I still love it.

    • Portia says:

      MMMMMMMMM, So sexy.
      Do you feel sensuous Cassieflower?
      Portia xx

      • Cassieflower says:

Haha, this definitely doesn’t make me feel sensuous. It doesn’t make me want to get nude either. It’s way too well behaved for that.

  • Melanie says:

Perry Ellis Royal Vetiver Oud on the left. Zoologist Macaque on the right, which is proving delightful. Last time i wore it I wasn’t really a fan.
Love how something changes from a no, or not sure , to a maybe, even a yes.

  • Portia says:

    Resina by Oliver & Co.
Perfectly named: spicy resins. Wears so beautifully. I put it on and wonder why it doesn’t get more skin time. SO GOOD!

  • Carolyn says:

Tonight it’s the amazing Bee’s High Tea from Nui Cobalt Designs. Notes according to website: Delicate vanilla cakes with rose petal preserves, elderflower wine, and Earl Grey tea with a dainty drop of spring harvest honey. This one makes me roll my eyes back in pleasure!

  • Cassieflower says:

Doing a comparison today. On right side is Hermes Calèche Soie and on left is VC&A First Intense. Yep, I still think they’re cousins.

  • Melanie says:

Penhaligons’ Malabah for me today. It’s nice but not loving it.

  • Cassieflower says:

Four sprays of St. Clair Casablanca. It’s potent stuff.

  • Carolyn says:

I had forgotten how much I love Frapin perfumes. Just found my decant of 1270 and sprayed myself lavishly. Such a lovely boozy fruity perfume. From website:
    Olfactory pyramid:
Top: Candied orange, Nuts, Raisins, Prunes, Cocoa, Tonka bean, Coffee.
Heart: Vine flowers, Everlasting flowers, Linden, Pepper, Spices.
Base: Precious woods, Gaiac wood, White honey, Vanilla.

  • Portia Turbo says:

I wore loads of Charlatan by Fort & Manlé tonight to host online Live in Isolation Turbo trivia tonight. We had loads of players and I think everyone had a good time. I certainly did.
Walked the dogs through the cool evening here and I’m rewatching the whole Fast & the Furious series on Netflix. Tonights offering was Tokyo Drift. It’s fun, I love the mayhem.
Now it’s time for bed. Taking the spicy amber to a darker place I’m going to wear The Aoud by Mancera. LOTS of it.
    Portia

    • Melanie says:

Smelling amazing Portia. I’ve tried Charlatan a few times but it doesn’t need like me, but Impressions de Giverny was a stand out xx

  • Carolyn says:

So a bit of a bust in terms of sampling today. Started with Bulgari Jasmin Noir and it was lovely but EDT and in arid high desert of Santa Fe it just doesn’t last more than a minute. Then a vintage sample of Lanvin My Sin, which I had hoped would rock my world but nope. Now wearing Nui Cobalt Designs Bamboozle, which at least I can SMELL. According to website: Baklava: diaphanous layers of flakey, golden pastry, toasted pistachio, roasted chestnut, crushed almond, and a generous drizzle of spring harvest honey. I am mightily tempted to lick my arm at the moment.

  • Portia says:

I’ve had a bunch of things on today. It was really warm her in Sydney and I went and did some gardening at my BFFs Dad’s house.
Vintage YSL Jazz during the day, Grand Amour by Annick Goutal in the early evening, Piguet Petit Fracas for bed.
It’s been a gorgeous perfume day.
    Portia xx

  • Melanie says:

Maya Njie Tobak for me today. A very lovely musky, leather with a little Vetiver. Has lasted all day (and received a compliment) which is a big tick for me.

  • HeidiC says:

Yesterday I had Armani Privé Iris Celadon on one arm, and the 2018 Guerlain Iris Ganache on the other, and it was INTERESTING. They’re very similar in that iris-verging-on-gourmand way, but Iris Celadon is more creamy rooty iris, very cool, while Iris Ganache has more violet and spicy bergamot. It’s like Celadon is in the shade or in the coolness of morning, while Ganache is in the full sun. They’re both lovely. Today, I just felt like being happy so I’ve been liberally spritzing myself with Seville a l’Aube, greeny waxy orange blossom with a touch of powdery vanilla.

  • Luanne says:

Mancera Black Cherry. Sort of Lost Cherry Lite.

  • Gina T. says:

Today I grabbed Emanuel Ungaro Apparition. Yesterday, I wored indie perfume by Happyland called Paisley Sky.

  • matty1649 says:

Today I’m wearing Adam Levine for her.

  • Maya says:

SL Rose de Nuit. I got it in a sample order, tried it and thought meh. Trying it again and it’s very nice. I think this one could grow on me.

  • MMKinPA says:

I did a random reach to the back of the tray and came up with SJP Lovely. Remembering why it’s at the back of the tray – it’s nice but just not really me. To purgatory it goes while I decide if I want to swap or give it away. It has a been a long week. If this wears off I’m going straight to Jungle l’Elephant because I know that will make me smile even if it’s not seasonally appropriate!

  • Carolyn says:

Wearing Puredistance 1 this morning. I bought a sampler set of Puredistance many years ago and then was too intimidated (??) to actually crack it open and try the 3 vials. (And afraid I’d cry if I used up M in a couple of go’s, M being the point of the purchase to begin with.) Didn’t like the powdery stage PD1 went through initially but now the neroli is peeking out a bit more forcefully so it’s growing on me. Neroli is one of the only fruit notes that isn’t an immediate NOPE from me.

  • springpansy says:

Comme des Garcons Kyoto sample today. I tried this long ago when I was not new to perfume, but very new to all the ways it could be and thought Kyoto very strange. I’m sampling again for fun and now it’s a wooden box of treasured items, stored in the attic and smelling of faraway lands, and very Zen.

    • Portia says:

      Hi Springpansy,
      Kyoto IS gorgeous.
It’s also interesting how diverse the CdG incense range are. Try to get your nose on some of the others too. Still readily available.
      Portia xx

  • Portia says:

Wearing truckloads of Samsara tonight. EdP from the red & gold bottle. MMMMMMM
    Portia xx

  • Patty says:

I am still deciding, but think I may land on Iris Silver Mist, seems like that kind of day.

    • Portia says:

Bringing out the cool guys today Patty? ISM, or as my mate Anna Maria always calls it, Irish Silver Mist.
      Portia xx

  • Tanja says:

SJP Lovely Sheer. It’s so nice for a cheapie. I will get home soon and hope my boyfriend made the asparagus quiche we talked about this morning

  • Filomena says:

    SOTD Papillon Dryad.

  • March says:

I’ve been wearing some of my unworn fragrances, preparing for my Another Chance post on Tuesday — please try something out you’ve been ignoring so you can report back!

    • Portia says:

      OK, will try to March.

    • AnnieA says:

It’s a rainy day today, so I tried out Oriental Lounge by The Different Company. It’s okay – I’d put on a spritz if I were at work without perfume and it was in a drawer. Since it’s with all the other bottles at home it , though, it will probably be ignored some more…

  • Cassieflower says:

Miller et Bertaux Shanti Shanti. Cool and zen. Easing my way into the perfume day.

  • Bee says:

Suddenly summer here and we are unprepared. Guerlain AA Nerolia Bianca – a little heady but not too indolic. Sunshine in a bottle !

  • Cinnamon says:

Hiram Green’s Dilettante this morning. This has been the first full week of proper spring here and everything is popping, including the lilacs, which were my mother’s fave flower. The Devon banks are full of an assortment of wildflowers. Dilettante’s orange blossom, orange, etc, makes me think of Philadelphus (mock orange) which along with tuberose is among my favourite flowers. Deceptively innocent at first, opening into something lush and pongy.

    • March says:

whyyyyyyyy have I not ordered a decant yet…. I swear I tried it when I first came out and I’ve lost that large-ish sample, I need to quit looking for it and get another.

    • Cassieflower says:

I always think of bees rolling around in it doing the do. There’s that whisper of naughtiness in it that’s defies explanation.

  • Angel says:

Serge Lutens Rahat Loukoum. I’ve been testing lots of samples, leading to lots of scrubbing LOL. Needed some sweet almond to make up for it. Would love to hear anyone’s almond recs!

    • March says:

Rahat hahahahahaha I LOATHE Turkish delight. True story: our beloved Greek barber (who had enormous patience w my twins) returned from a trip home with a big box of Turkish delight and, one day, shoved a piece of it into my mouth. I had to stand there and smile and look delighted until I could quietly spit it out….

    • March says:

So you need to try SL Louve, that’s almondy and way prettier IMO. Also Aqua di Parma did a Mandorla something or other I really liked. And there’s an awesome vintage…. Poison? Poison almond? Hang on, blanking on the name. Tendre, maybe?

    • March says:

      Hypnotic Poison, that’s the one.

  • Carolyn says:

In the wee hours of the 24th (insomnia), I am indulging in yet another spritz of Baiser Volé by Cartier, a birthday gift from a wonderful friend. And, a blind buy. Feelin’ lucky!

  • Carolyn says:

Was rocking Mandy Aftel’s Secret Garden all day. I was on a Zoom call with some friends outside when I got a text from my housemate asking if I knew why her cat smelled like a French whore. I’ve never been more proud! Apparently my perfume transferred to his fur when I picked him up for a cuddle. This is quite the tenacious floral/animalic perfume.

    • March says:

Okay this made me giggle so loud I disturbed the dogs, thanks!

      • Carolyn says:

Least I could do for the Posse who taught me about Worth Courtesan oh so many years ago. I can’t find my bottle anywhere and fear I may have used it all up. Have to go on the hunt it seems!

    • March says:

And of COURSE kitty would want a cuddle if you smell animalic! That’s always a useful clue for me, when my dogs are super interested in what I’ve sprayed, hehe.

      • Carolyn says:

I know I “may” have gone a little too far with an indolic perfume when my cats start scratching around me, figuratively attempting to bury my arm under some kitty litter. So then I go and spray myself with some more, cause I’m evil like that. 🙂

    • Queen-Cupcake says:

That is hilarious! I cuddle my cats and they smell pretty good–on their own, or with my frag of the day. Today it is Persian Tea Room by Alkemia. Another cold, wet & blustery day in New England.

      • Carolyn says:

Ohhhh…Alkemia!!! I just ordered two sets of samples that they are picking out for me based on notes I enjoy and I just got shipping notice. I have to put Persian Tea Room on my list to try when I place my next order with them.

    • Portia says:

      HA! Excellent story Carolyn.
How lucky those French whores are to smell so fine.
      Portia xx

      • Carolyn says:

I totally should have been born in Marie Antoinette’s time. If it wasn’t for all the beheading I would have really enjoyed it! 🙂
