SOTD 19.6.2020

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else SOTD choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and Perfume Posse people love to chat. We like to keep it fragrant but there’s always room for life events and adventures too. This is our place to share how we smell, live, love, eat, work, raise kids and pets and get on with the business of living.

Perfume Posse SOTD

SOTD 19.6.2020

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz. Whenever you feel the mood take you, share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at Perfume Posse, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your SOTD comment. Then you can reply to them, and so on.

Go To It Crew.

    LE LION de CHANEL..
Labdanum and a wealth of other stuff.

  • SonomaVelvet says:

Easy breezy in Chanel Beige today. Beige seems like a pretty crazy name for refreshing sweet flowers to me. This smells to me like a Monet painting, some sun some shade and lots of flowers and greens around some water. I know it’s not aquatic at all, it’s more like the water is implied in a kind of coolness.

    • Portia says:

They chose some crazy boring names for a while at CHANEL. They really didn’t seem to fit the offerings. Also the connotations of beige being boring and lifeless. Strange.
Jersey felt a bit the same.

Just had a hot bubble bath and feeling very warm and cozy.
Santal Majuscule by Serge Lutens. Very high faulting’ sandalwood.

Amoureuse by Parfums DelRay. Lilies, over ripe fruit and flowers that have sat in the vase water a day too long. Sounds awful but is unbelievably beautiful. Perfect for a sunshiny winters day.
I really can’t believe this house closed before I bought all the ones I love from it. GRRR!

Brigitte – this one’s for you. Laboratory Perfumes Atlas.
A beautiful pineapple scent, with some spice and woods. Says tobacco but I’m not getting any of that. If it lasts the day it may well be a full bottle purchase.
Also, I got a sample of Imaginary Authors Falling into the Sea – really liking this one too.

  • Cassieflower says:

Busy few days this week. Lounging in the richness of Anima Dulcis.

  • SonomaVelvet says:

SSS Velvet Rose on the left today. I do love this one, just like sticking my nose in a great big blooming rose and it lasts all day. And Commodity Nectar on the other side. hmmm, I like syrupy Orange Blossoms like seville a l’aube and pdn’s Neroli Intense and I would even put Serges’ fleurs de oranger in that category. And I love fresh crisp Neroli like the last treasured drops of Annick Goutal’s Cologne Neroli. I think I bought Nectar trying to replace the Annick Goutal but it doesn’t of course, and I was bargaining with myself that I wouldn’t buy a replacement Jo Malone Orange Blossom (the most straight up smells just like the flowers I’ve ever come across) until I used up the Commodity…but I’m never going to use up the commodity because well, I want to smell just orange blossom sometimes…. hahahaha oh the rationalizations

    • Portia says:

Oh yes. I completely understand the silent arguments and chats about purchases. It’s like a sitcom sometimes.

Vintage Patou Amour Amour. I like the use of carnation in many of the old Jean Patou perfumes.

    • Portia says:

      I never smelled this Maya,
Carnation seems to have been on the outs with perfumers for years. It would be nice to see it resurge.
      Caron did lovely carnations.

Starting to work through Nui Cobalt Designs Fae Folk collection. This morning it’s Lampade and Naiad.

Lampade is described as “Blackest patchouli, smoldering myrrh, unripened fig, libations of honey consumed in fire and smoke.” I’m thinking it’s the fig in this one that isn’t working for me. Could also be the myrrh. Something is cloying during opening. It gets less so as time passes but I think this one is a nope for me.

Naiad is described as “Offerings of milk and honey, a trace of pale incense smoke, bay laurel trees, and morning mist at the mossy bank of a stream.” This one is a hit. Very gently aquatic (probably wouldn’t have realized there was a water note in there without tip-off of name) with great wafting incense and a little woodiness. This is definitely a FS contender.

  • Carolyn says:

Revisiting my sample of Possets Black Venus tonight. Fragrance notes are: “Blackest musk flirts with a float of black pepper, a shot of dark sweet pear and the most small amount of sage and non-stinky narcissus for tingle.”

I’ve used up almost 1/2 of the 1ml sample and I continue to really love this one. Added to my up size at some point list.

  • SonomaVelvet says:

I thunked a bottle of Jo Malone’s Orange Blossom last week and have been watching myself waffle over buying another one, back and forth and back and forth.
Thunked another bottle of Tom Ford’s Shanghai Lily today. Had just enough to squeak out about 5 sprays, going out with a bang. A bit of fantasy waffling about buying another of these too but a peak on eBay was quite sobering… the price of this one was crazy before it was discontinued and now it’s so aspirational it’s basically not available. Sigh, good bye Shangai Lily. I loved you.

    • Portia Turbo says:

I just saw Shanghai Lily at the Estee Lauder staff shop the other day being run out for a steal. They’ll be on eBay soon, I’m sure at huge prices. No, I didn’t buy one but I did buy the Soleil one.

Aroma M Geisha Botan perfume oil. This lasts all day even in humid weather. It’s mainly a pretty vanilla on me. The peony and rose are weak. Now I want to try Kai Rose again. I remember really liking it and I want a few more perfume oils.

    • SonomaVelvet says:

mmm, I really like Kai and didn’t know they had a Kai Rose. Is it really rosey? or like original Kai with a Rose angle?

      • Maya says:

Your questions are why I want to try it again. I remember it being original Kai with added/blended in rose oil. It was very very nice, but the rose faded away too quickly on me leaving the original Kai. My sample was small so I want to try it again. If the rose stays longer, I will buy it. Some people say there’s too much rose. It probably depends strongly on skin and maybe weather.

  • Melanie says:

Squeezing the last few drops out of my little sample spray of Montale Boise Vanille. The juice is quite dark in colour but it smells so good.

    • Melanie says:

And wondering, would anyone have any thoughts on Bogue Mem… thinking about a sample even though a bottle is well outside my preferred budget.

  • Carolyn says:

Just signed up for Arielle Shoshana’s next virtual event…vacation themed!!

  • SonomaVelvet says:

Ormonde Jayne Tiare yesterday, so gorgeous. A lot of white florals read as cool to me but this one feels warm somehow. Warm and smooth and so beautiful. I think the mosquitos like it too unfortunately, they sure gave me a hard time last night.
I’m probably in something worse today for mosquitos, I’m in Seville a l’aube today. We shall see, but I sure smell good,

    • Portia says:

      Two spectacular fragrances SV,
Seville a l’aube is so good. That book was a game changer for me. So much interesting perfume back story.

Tonight it’s turned bitingly cold. I’m wearing Liberté by Cacharel and loving its sugary citrus froth.

Wearing VII: L’Heure Défendue by Cartier.
This is a chocoholics dream. I love to wear it and I think March loves it too. BLOODY WEIRD though. Chocolate, patchouli and vanilla play leading roles. SWOON!

  • Carolyn says:

Today I’m wearing another Fabienne-era discontinued Possets perfume Romping Skyclad. According to fragrance notes: “Fir and patchouli are its main themes, with a great lashing of crystal musk as a base from which to launch.” Hunt for another unicorn commences. Sigh.

Also wearing Alpha Musk I Put a Spell On You. “Scent Description: blend of incense, Saffron, Beeswax, Turkish Rose, Gurjun, Cedarwood, Oud, Sandalwood, benzoin, touch of pepper.” Our housemate is getting woods with a little floral when she sniffs my wrist. I’m getting ROSE backed by woods. Noses are strange.

  • Carolyn says:

Wearing Hex’s Black Phillip. Kept seeing references to this pop up in indie jewelry and perfume so did a search and now know that it refers to Satan possessed goat (or I guess Satan in corporeal form) from the movie The Witch. I happen to love goats (have gotten to spend a lot of time with baby goats since moving to Santa Fe). This perfume is really a hit for me! Full bottle worthy I suspect. Notes are black amber, dragon’s blood, black musk, tonka, black oak, firewood embers, black currant, soft woods, black pepper.

Also wearing Fabienne-era Possets Huile of Fortune. Love the play on name. Notes say it is “seven carefully chosen ambers, put right with a bit of sage, a small amount of suave moss, and fern and a bit of vetiver which is handles with a deft and gentle hand.” The opening is a bit sharp (probably the sage) but it settles down within moments and I’m really enjoying it. Seems to be discontinued? A new unicorn to hunt!

  • SonomaVelvet says:

I’m in Cap Neroli today. I find it usually lasts for quite a long time but I haven’t tried it outside in the sun before so today we’ll find out. All over me and a drop or 2 on my face mask for my own smelling pleasure.

  • Portia says:

    Hey Crew,
Been wearing Le Lion de CHANEL and Guerlain Habit Rouge L’Eau a lot lately. Wazamba by Parfum d’Empire and Shalimar EdP are also seeing some skin time.
Wen’t around to my friend Clayton of What Men Should smell Like blog yesterday for coffee and catch ups. He pulled out a very large box of press bottles he’d been given that he rarely wears and told me to grab whatever I wanted. So I have about 12 new bottles that need some time and spritz action this week.
    Portia xx

    • rosarita says:

Wazamba is so good isn’t it? And wow, 12 free new bottles, what a treasure! Look forward to your reviews.

  • Maya says:

Slightly off topic – I gave a friend my sample of Lyric for Men. It’s the second rose that went sour on me. He loves it. He told me that he put a drop or two on his face mask. I thought it was a great idea. I think it would work especially well with perfume oils. It would need a light touch but you could enjoy your SOTD while out.

  • Carolyn says:

I’ve been exploring Fabienne (founder) era Possets perfume samples this week and have found a couple of loves. Both of the ones I tried today were big hits and both are still available in Possets general catalog! Woop woop! Hatshepsut according to website is “Bitter beautiful galbanum pairs with the smoothness of labdanum, a bit of oude gum, and a very small amount of the best skin amber.” Diaphanous Dress is described as “Deepest and richest Mexican vanilla troupes bravely with the chill aquatic of snow falling in heavy doses and melting almost on contact with a tuft of chlorophyll in the background and a hint of the flowers it all overtakes.” Both are FS-worthy for me!

Just cracked open a small sample of Goddess Nina from Alpha Musk this pm. From AM’s Etsy store description…

“Goddess Nina (inspired by the goddess herself miss Simone) – Egyptian amber, Egyptian goddess musk, and a sultry vintage rose, jasmine and orange blossom perfume worn with confidence all swirling amongst the luxurious royal incense that lingers and drifts by the stage.”

  • SonomaVelvet says:

Serge Lutens De Profundis. There are perfumes that I wear and smell and perfumes that evokes feelings and memories for me. This one feels like a place, an enchanted cool still place that I enter and enjoy. Like a peaceful, perfect scented cool grove in the forest or something. It might be one of the most evocative scents in that way I’ve ever encountered.

  • rosarita says:

Wearing Hove Perfumery Fascinator today because I’d like to be drinking a frozen daiquiri in New Orleans with my best friend right now, I’m lonesome for her. We could go to Hove and Bourbon French and smell perfumes and I would decide if I prefer Tea Olive or Sweet Olive and buy a little coffret of edt and powder, then go have ice cold oysters at Felix. Lovely.

    • Ariel says:

I’m feeling you on the New Orleans lonesome. I just burned a Hove candle this afternoon. Best friends are precious- hope you get to talk on the phone or something!

    • Maggiecat says:

I wish I were there with you! I love NOLA, love Hove’, love Bourbon French!

  • Maya says:

Regime des Fleurs Chloe Sevigny Little Flower – a great summer fragrance. It even works in this awful humid weather. I wish it were less expensive but hope I can eventually find a deal on it.

  • March says:

Where is everyone? Were y’all raptured? I thought I was going to wear a SOTD that matched yesterday’s nice weather but today it’s overcast and muggy, so I’m wearing Pacifica jasmine as a placeholder while I ponder my choices….. lol nobody outside of the perfume world would even grasp that concept.

    • SonomaVelvet says:

I totally get the placeholder idea. I have a few perfumes that I love and one of the things I love about them is that they will be gone in a few hours and I can put on my ‘real’ perfume of the day.

    • AnnieA says:

Good grief, I think I spent the first month hunkering down with a placeholder perfume, namely the Bulgari blue tea, because anything else would have been Too Much to deal with…

  • Dina C. says:

Wearing Chanel Les Exclusifs Sycomore edit today. Love this unisex vetiver. It’s a thunderstorm-y day and fits the weather really well.

    • March says:

It’s a very thunder stormy day! I’m a bit flighty today and can’t settle on a SOTD so I guess I’m going to have to wear a bunch, lol

  • Neva says:

Vintage Paris. I never want to be without it.

  • cassieflower says:

Fracas. For the first time in a few years I think. But whyyyy?

    • Neva says:

I suppose it’s the number of perfumes to choose from 😉

    • March says:

I swapped my bottle away a few years ago, it was “too much,” and I’ve regretted it ever since.

      • cassieflower says:

Well I sort of was reminded to get it out and wear it because I just got another bottle. Too good of a chance to miss. So I’ve got lots to play with.

        • SonomaVelvet says:

Oh yes, Fraca is soooo good. I often seem to forget about it too, and again why? It’s soooo good.
