SOTD 2.10.2020

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else SOTD choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and Perfume Posse people love to chat. We like to keep it fragrant but there’s always room for life events and adventures too. This is our place to share how we smell, live, love, eat, work, raise kids and pets and get on with the business of living.

Perfume Posse SOTD

SOTD 2.10.2020

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz. Whenever you feel the mood take you, share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at Perfume Posse, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your SOTD comment. Then you can reply to them, and so on.

Go To It Crew.

    Ensar Oud No. 2

musk and civet, don’t mess with me world

  • Maya says:

I’m doing some sampling today. Right now it’s PdN Juste un Reve. Very nice!

  • Portia says:

Honey Oud by Floris for bed. The most English of oudhs, wants to veer feral but is tightly restrained.

Pour Lui by Oscar de la Renta. The soapiest, aldehyde laden herbal leather fragrance. It’s so retro and fun. The opening is a little challenging because it smells like every old fashioned mens bathroom soap for about 3 minutes. It’s uncanny. Then it settles into an old school menswear leaning scent.
Apparently the original was a much better fragrance but this isn’t terrible.

    Organza Indecence.

You know the LAST thing I need more of in the middle of a crisis is perfume. I can’t stop buying though. it’s like my pause button has been disabled.
Today I saw a bottle of PACO by Paco Rabanne. My mate Scotty adores it but I have never smelled it. Couldn’t help myself, picked it up and paid for it without even thinking.
I’ll open it later and tell you how it smells.

Writing TRIVIA Q&A. Trefle Pur by Atelier cologne

Today was cleaning day. I was totally uninspired to get started so I lavishly spritzed vintage Shalimar EdT and dabbed some extrait. Suddenly I was ready for action and got the dusting, vacuuming, clothes washing/hanging, my bathroom and the kitchen done in no time at all.

FINALLY finished my 12 book saga and on to my mate Ben Widdicombe’s Gatecrasher. OMG! I can’t put it down. He writes beautifully. You may know him as the NYT Gossip Columnist, the STORIES!!!

Jin woke me up and took me to yoga this morning. We haven’t been for a couple of years. There was so much my body had forgotten and my strength is appalling. We are going to gym in between to get that back on track, for both of us.
No scent yet today. Scumming around till I bathe. It’s kind of nice really to just be a piggy slob.

    • SpringPansy says:

Good for you and you will feel so good. It’s so important to mix up your exercise – yoga, strength training, cardio! I’m a slob at the moment until I get this house vacuumed – then shower and a little more Gypsy Water.

      • Portia says:

        Thanks SpringPansy,
Yeah, multi pronged fitness attack for a few months should het us back on track, some diet changes and some sunshine. We’ll be back to normal in no time.
        YAY for lobby days.
Monday is my cleaning day so I’m right beside you. Just started the laundry and dusted. Waiting for it to settle and then I’ll vacuum.
Vintage Shalimar EdT and extrait for cleaning today. MMMMMM

Gypsy Water today – going hiking a bit later. Patty reminded me about GW when she mentioned it as a fragrance that just makes her feel good. I agree!

Just ordered a few samples from DSHperfumes. I’ll report back once I receive them. I used to live only about 12 miles from her studio and loved to stop in to chat and sample. Dawn is truly lovely and incredibly talented.

    • Portia says:

OMG! So jealous that you used to hang with DSH! Only spent a very short time with her in London but it was excellent. She is so vibrant and present. AND gorgeous.

I’ve got a 10ml of Gypsy water banging around here somewhere. Must look it out.

Today wearing Oud Jaune Intense of Fragrance du Bois.
Just yesterday received some samples of the house. Hands down, I love all of them!

  • Portia says:

Hanging around the house with Jin today.
Halfeti Leather by Penhaligon’s. A herbal leather with rose and incense as the main complements and a slew of other stuff. That modern oud scratchy thing fills the base, it’s nothing new bit works well for me.

Someone mentioned a Bvlgari fragrance on here recently and I remembered I have a bottle of Black buried in the back of my perfume cupboard. I dug it out and wow, I forgot how much I like this one. It’s definitely weird, with that strange rubbery note, but also deep and plush. My dog was very curious about it!

    • Portia says:

      Hey Calrayo,
It’s probably an older bottle, right? What a scent. I’m hoping the newer bottles settle down into a close proximity in a couple of years too.
      Portia x

      • Calrayo says:

Yes, mine’s probably from around 2010 or so (does that count as older?). I haven’t smelled a new bottle recently but I’m sad (though of course not surprised) to hear it’s not as good.

  • Eldarwen22 says:

Was in Cormandel this morning but had to take a shower for work. Wearing vintage Givenchy III for work.

  • Musette says:

It’s sunny and chilly here – I’m wearing Lancome’s apricot-infused Cuir de Lancome, wondering why this doesn’t get more press. It’s so pretty, like a soft cognac-colored leather jacket that was inadvertently packed away with some dried apricots! xoxoxo

    • Portia says:

      Hey Musette,
I think those that know it keep it a secret so the prices which are already insane don’t triple.
I went a bit berko and bought four bottles of it when it hit the discounters and was about $40 a pop but then I really didn’t wear it often because I liked my leather to punch me in the nose. Moved them all on. Now I wish I’d at least kept my open bottle but have Cuir d’Ange to fill that niche need.

    • Ariel says:

A scent like that would have me distractedly sniffing myself into oncoming traffic…so yeah, will have to check that out and be careful about leaving the house 🙂

  • Dina C. says:

Wearing Marni edp today; in the mood for some easy, approachable incense for a fall day. Have a great weekend everyone!

  • Portia says:

    Had a gig tonight! YAY!
Wore Nuxe shimmer oil. Beautiful and softly fragrant. Wore that after my bath for a couple of hours and it was so pretty while putting my fave on for work.
Over it I added copious amounts of Reem Acra. SO GOOD! and perfect layered over the Nuxe, which gave it depth, burnish and excellent longevity!
Home, walked the dogs, ready for bed.

I wore Coty’s Nokomis last night to bed. Had forgotten how much I love it. Prices have gone way up since I bought my small spray bottle of this discontinued scent. May have to watch a few on eBay and see if I can score a larger bottle for a reasonable price.

  • Queen-Cupcake says:

Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab (BPAL) No.93 Engine Perfume Oil. I finally ordered 5ml after my sample ran out. The description on their website makes it sound scary but it isn’t. Here are the notes: Balm of Gilead, benzoin, frankincense, balsam of peru, beeswax, saffron, galbanum, calamus, hyssop, mastic, lemon balm, and white sage. Very balsamic on my skin at first, then to beeswax candles and herbs. Also ordered Snake Oil, which is very popular–I don’t know it so we’ll see… Happy Friday, all.

    • Carolyn says:

I love BPAL. Aged Snake Oil is amazing. Hoping I still have an old bottle somewhere. Seems like many of their scents are made even better with the addition of a little Snake Oil. You can find their Snake Oil blends by clicking on tag link for snake oil. Might give you ideas for layering with your other perfumes. And advice I’ve always gotten about Snake Oil is put it away and forget about it for awhile as it really does getter better as it ages.

Leftover Ormonde Jayne Woman. I want to love this — and for the first hour it is gorgeous. But after that it’s just too sweet in a cloying way on me. Had the same problem with Penhaligon Amaranthine. Sigh.

  • Cassieflower says:

    Hypnotic Poison. Wohoo I’m first.
