Potato Perfume

This potato perfume popped up in my news feed yesterday, and I sprinted my little clicking fingers on it as fast as I could and….. all sold out, and it doesn’t seem like they are making anymore

Idaho Potato Commission released this limited edition potato perfume called Frites (deep sigh and foot stamp again that I MISSED THIS!!!) for Valentine’s Day.  Made from distilled potatoes and essential oils, supposed to smell like a plate of French fries – hopefully hot ones. Cold French fries not so much.

They were charging $1.89 per bottle, I think it was 50 mls.  They do have an Instagram contest going to win free bottles, but I just want them to make more bottles.  Am I wrong wanting perfume that smells like French fries?   Have I finally just lost my mind? I do a bunch of captioning for the Idaho leg when they are in session (now, and they are killing me) and one of the committees I cover is Ag. I know everything there is to know, I think, about Idaho agriculture – beans, milk, cervidae (elk, reindeer), wheat, etc –  except how to get my hands on this.   I emailed them.

Miss you guys, hope life eases up a bit so I can come talk about more important things, like perfume – so many new things I am loving! Okay, off to caption a basketball game!

Id love to smell it, but I really like the smell of French fried to be accompanied by the taste of French fries.

  • Portia says:

HA! This sounds wonderful Patty, and yes, you’ve probably toppled over the edge. No worries, we like you a bit crazy.

Can they throw in the scent of a cheeseburger? The smell of opening a warm bag of burgers and fries would be amazing! Seriously, I would love a bottle of scent based on my favorite french restaurant (an old wood bar, the best quiche in the world and a thick, evil hot coco) or my favorite bar (another old wood bar, the scent of a variety of cocktails and the star lilies they always have by the door).

  • Queen-Cupcake says:

    Oh I LUV that bottle!

Because I try to be frugal, I make my own frites-based fragrance. Just put a few fries (yes, they must be Mickey Dee’s fries) on a board, knock them about with a rolling pin or pastry brush, and steep them in a small bottle of high test vodka for 7 weeks.

    Truly, that bottle’s the bomb!

This is so fabulous. I just want it to set it on my dresser so I can look at it and giggle! Fingers crossed they come up with one to send you for the blog!

  • cinnamon says:

Uh. Wow. Doesn’t matter what it smells like — just so worthwhile in any case. Maybe the PR people would send you a bottle …

    • Patty says:

Musette just picked up the phone. Now we have hope for this! I keep forgetting the phone is an amazing instrument for getting a person to help you. 🙂

  • Karen says:

Maybe Demeter will make a version!

  • Musette says:

    are. you. SH!TTING me? OMG~

I want this like a mongoose wants a snake!

I freakin’ want this potato perfume. It is either fantabulous or ghastly. The smell of hot, salty, crispy fries, not soggy, just cooked in oil that may be a tad on the uhhh…”aged” side so that they’re a bit browner. Yeah…. I may not wear it to impress, but I think this would definitely have a “come hither” and “nibble” aspect.

    • Patty says:

I know! Does Demeter have a potato or french fry perfume? I don’t remember seeing one. It has to be tricky, can’t be too much grease. So I’m not crazy, other people want this too!
