Leather Krem by Liz Zorn for SOIVOHLE 2011

Heya Perfume Posse Peeps,

Portia in the POSSE from AustralianPerfumeJunkies and “totes” excited to be here. I’m a huge fan of Niche perfumery. That’s not to say I dislike any other kind, I LOVE FRAGRANCE! There is a special place in my heart though for the Niche Perfumers who are happy to live in an alternate universe where newness, product, ingredients and artistic endeavour overshadow the need to make big bucks quickly.

Leather Krem by Liz Zorn for SOIVOHLE 2011

SOIVOHLE (SEE-VO)
is an acronym
Sending Out Inspired Vibrations Of Healthy Loving Energy
Passing on the happiness and good cheer one bottle at a time

Liz Zorn of SOIVOHLE, who has biographies in both Who’s Who In America and Who’s Who of American Women, is just such a perfumer. Coming from an art background Liz brings it to the table every time.

So having met Liz let’s talk about Leather Krem.

Be prepared because the opening breath of Leather Krem by Liz Zorn is all burning sugar and road base, WHOA!! it will have your nose hairs off, yet compared to Parfum d’Empires Cuir Ottoman it’s positively bakehouse-ish. As this extreme opening fades there is a dessert underneath, creme caramel or brulee, maybe a lime brulee, fresh from the blowtorch with whipped cream beside to cut the sweetness. Through this now slightly bitter but glorious pudding we get tendrils of fresh suede from the tanner, sweet and pungent, slightly chemical but mainly animal. It’s ready to be made into something sublimely comfortable, can’t you almost smell it? This is what Jack Sparrow might smell like after he’s returned to port and cleaned up.

After an hour or so these accords are joined by the powdery, fatty, smoky ash remains of yesterdays wood Bar B Q. It creeps in and moves beautifully with the sweetness and leather till it almost takes over. As if Leather Krem by Liz Zorn has given its last hurrah, now it starts heading for dry down, the leather and smoke departs quietly leaving a sweet vanillic whisper of something that is not you til between 6-7 hours, then gone.

Leather Krem could be a mint condition vintage find at the back of your Grandma’s cupboard. There is a real sense of history contained within this little bottle, so good it beggars many of the modern mass market offerings and even some of the wildly expensive niche; leaving them smelling limp and impotent. It has balls yet remains sweet and delicious. For your inner virago, being the boss, a sexual adventure or conquest. Nobody will question your authority in this hellcat. And when you’ve played your trump Leather Krem, like you, can curl up and be a pussy cat. Go forth and conquer!

  • Hey Poodle,
Thank you for your kind words. the great thing about this whole range is the price point. So damn affordable,
    Quality is excellent too.

    • Musette says:

I agree! Liz’s scents are excellent quality and have great lasting power in the bottle as well (good for those of us who are whores and flit from bottle to bottle to sampletodecantpant!pant!pant!). my bottles of Cordovan Rose and V&R and Historical Chypre and Underworld are still fresh several yrs later (I keep them in their little cans, of course)

      xoxoxo

  • Poodle says:

Portia, when you love a scent your enthusiasm makes me want to rush right out and try it. A reference to Captain Jack doesn’t hurt either. I didn’t realize this line was so reasonably priced. I will have to look into it further. I’m in a spending mood today so that’s a bit dangerous.

  • Musette says:

Leather Kreem takes some getting used to on application but it is GAWJUS in the drydown. I love that soft, warm caramely feel. Have you tried her Tobacco and Tulle?

    xoxo

    • I have a sample of Tobacco & Tulle that I sometimes gift myself a smidge of. If I was a billionaire I would have the whole range FB but I have had to keep myself to 4: Rosa sur Reuse, Alpha Musc, Wild Ginger Chai and Leather Krem. And maybe an 8 pack of sample sizes.
      It’s the good sh*t!

Hey, Portia, cool post — as I’m just coming around to leather, this one is definitely piquing my interest. Thanks!
