Dzing! Dzing! Dzing! We have a winner!

carnival

I had read Cait’s wonderful review of Dzing! some time back and kept thinking… circus scent?

Yup, yuk, gag, okay. But when a bottle appeared on eBay for a great price, I snapped it up on a whim, to have something to laugh at when it turned into circus scat and peanuts on me.  From L’Artisan’s description:

“Possesses all of the distinguished fragrances of this wonderful universe: saddle leather, sawdust from the ring and the caramelised smell of candy. A perfume that reveals itself completely on the skin.”

Bois de Jasmin also has a great review of it here.  This is such a strange, addictive little scent, and it absolutely is the smell of the circus carnival.  Barnyard but Better.  An amalgam of smells that shouldn’t belong in a perfume or on a person that is, nevertheless, wearable and wonderful. Genius.

Much of my misspent youth played out at the carnival, walking down the midway in those lazy days of summer with the short shorts, flirting with the cute boys, holding hands, girly gossip and scary carnival rides — the ones we got sometimes used masking tape to hold the Octopus together, so the scary part was just hoping your Octopus arm did not go spinning off into the wheatfield — with the smells of the animals there for 4-H livestock judging and the rodeo wafting around, pink cotton candy tendrils swirling lazily.  Dzing! has animalic notes, the warm fuzzy ones, the sweat, like the smell you get when you nuzzle a horse’s neck after a ride.  This is Rat Money Smell at its best — innocent and without guile.

I need to amend my Scents of Summer because somehow I forgot the Dzing! does have leather in it and is absolutely a wonderful Summer Scent.

There was a perfuming accident early this week, and I need help to (a) avoid it in the future or (b) know what to do should it happen again. My wonderful Guerlain Sous Le Vent bottle is the Vega style, the apothecary type round thing with a top on it that is glass on glass, and it has six sides to the glass lid, which makes it rough on the hands to turn, especailly small, stubby hands like mine. They are always hard to get open to begin with, but somehow the lid got a leetle wedged. I tried pliers, those big adjustable ones, first just on the top, then one on the lid and one on the bottom to hold it steady, and this thing did not budge, just made the whole bottle twirl around.  Well, I don’t have a lot of patience for this thing (approx 5 minutes), and I finally took the big pliers to it, broke the top and redecanted the remainder into 10 ml bottles (only about 25 ml left, so it wasn’t a lot that needed a new home, and the spillage from the redecant went all over me, and I smell soooooo good!).

Question then is, how do I prevent the wedging in the future on another bottle?  And if it does get wedged, is there a good way to get it loose?

We joined the Coutorture community a couple of weeks ago.  It is a great site that collects blog posts from the fashion, beauty and perfuming community.  A wonderful place to check daily for great writing and information and also to  find some wonderful new blogs.

And the winner for the drawing from last week is…. Twibbet! Just hit the Contact Us button over there on the left and send me you address and which samples you’d like, and I’ll get them out to you!

March, exactly, who cares? I’m not sure veryone else things SLV is the best thing I ever put on either.

BTW, Rocabar was not a hit with the testosterone residents in the, they presented a solid front and pronounced it a “chick perfume.” That means more for me!

I really feel bad about the Dzing! not working on you, but try mixing Chergui and A la Nuit, it’s not that far off, I found.

  • Patty says:

Congrats, Twibbet! I’m heading out of town for a couple of days, but will get your prize in the mail Sat or Monday.

Dzing! I can see how it wouldn’t work for some people, definitely, sorry it didn’t work for you!

  • March says:

P — I am so sorry about the Sous le Vent. That’s terrible! I have been spraying it on pretty liberally the last couple of days. I have to say I’ve gotten some strange looks, I’m not sure it’s everyone’s idea of heaven, but who cares?

Dzing!!!! Every time I go to Art with Flowers I reapply to see if it’s any better on me. It never is. Sigh. Leather loves me, not sure what the problem is.

  • Twibbet says:

Oh, I’m so happy to win a drawing! Yay! :d

I gave Dzing! a good try on both myself and my sweetie – smelled like rubber and almonds on me, and on him it smelled like gasoline. Weird, and very disappointing – I really wanted to like it.

  • Patty says:

Cardboard? No! If you haven’t sniifed it, I’ll send you some. Definitely not cardboard.

Yes, be careful with those bottles. I’ve never had a problem with the bees, just the apothecary ones.

I did, thank you! I haven’t had a moment to look through it, though but I will!

  • violetnoir says:

Patty, what am I missing here? Isn’t Dzing! the one that smells like cardboard? Maybe I’m just not sophisticated enough to hang around your blog. LOL!

My deepest condolences on the Sous le Vent bottle. Jeepers, I need to be careful when I open my Attrape Coeur bottle, huh? With my luck, not only would I end up savaging the stopper, I would break the bottle and lose all of the juice. I am such a klutz!!

I hope you received the carrot cake recipe. Please feel free to share it with other buttercream fanatics. 🙂

    Hugs!

  • Patty says:

Cait, you are solely responsible for my even trying Dzing! And even after your recommendation,I spluttered for quite a while before I took the plunge. It really is just a genius scent. There is nothing else quite like it, though I did find a mix of Chergui and A La Nuit seemed to smell a little close. So odd.

  • Patty says:

‘sokay, Robin, I have another bottle that’s due in this week, whew! Not much was lost, but even losing 5-10 mls, given its price, smarts a lot. :((

  • Patty says:

Angel, another Dzing lover! I’m just trying to figure out how I had missed this for so long, its praizes should be sung regularly. 🙂

  • Patty says:

Ina, but of course! You really need to get some Dzing. Even my mom, who is realy picky about pefume, liked it, thought it was odd but in a soothing way.
On Coutorture, I don’t know. I do like using their website to launch into others in other areas, for those days when I have some time to idle up procrastinating, so I guess if more people find our blog that didn’t before, it is. But they’re really nice people and classy, so I figger it can’t hurt.

  • Patty says:

Thanks, Pam! That may work. I wanted to figure out how to grease it a little, but didn’t want to contaminate it, so that was out, but freezing may help. I hope it never happens again!

  • Cait says:

I too love Dzing! It is one of the great greats. GRRREEat. So sorry to hear about the SlV bottle. I’ve been loving mine like a neat toy. I love to slap big gusts of it on my hand. I don’t know what to suggest for next time – pray? I am delighted that you think Dzing! is rat money smell.:d

  • Robin says:

Oh, condolences on your Sous Le Vent, I’m so sorry!

  • AngelaS says:

I adore Dzing! It’s my go-to fragrance whenever I’m not sure what to wear. It smells so good on clothes the next day, too.

  • Ina says:

Dzing! Again! Must you torment me so? :(( I’m still considering the Coutorture thing. Is it worth it, you think?

  • Pam says:

Patty, do you think putting a bottle in the freezer for, say, 3 minutes or so would help loosen a wedged lid? Or maybe putting an ice bag on it for a while? Just a thought. Someone else will come up with a better solution, I’m sure. Glad you only lost a bit of the SLV. Whew. #:-s
