Creed’s newest release is Acqua Fiorentina. It has notes of plum, roses, carnation, bergamot orange, lemon, cedar, and sandalwood. Prices are $130 for 1 ounce, $230 for 2.5 ounces and $350 for 8.4 ounces.
Did Creed’s prices go up? A lot?
It opens fairly aquatic with a typical Creed base, but don’t get worried, it loses that watery feel and turns much more plummy and floral. It’s not a sweet plum, not heavy on any of the fruitish notes at all. Very fresh and springlike floral with cedary underpinnings. It’s done well and doesn’t fall into the Creed side of the fence of scents I hate. It falls on the much sparser side of Creed scents I like. It’s very nice, though I like Love in Black a lot more, it’s just more my kind of scent.
But the pricing? I mean, the $350 for 8.4 ounces is darn reasonable. It’s good that they are offering it in a 1 ounce size, but $130? Which brings me to my question of the day, what is a reasonable price for perfume in this year’s astronomical pricing? Hard to believe we are in a recession with the hikes that have been going on just in the last three quarters. Ideas on what marketing strategy is at play here?

Pretty crazy although, once you find your true personal scent I wonder just how high of a price people are willing to pay. I’m a bit disloyal when it comes to perfumes, maybe becasue they remind too much of certain “stages” of my life and the best way to let go is to change your perfume….at least that’s what I do!

Hi, I would love to try this perfume. I am concerned thought that it might be similar to Love in Black, which was not my scent at all. I am encouraged by the description of spring like. My favoriate scent is Fleurissimo. I also find that Spring Flowers combined with Love in White combines the best of both fragrances (I don’t quite like either totally alone for one reason or another). Anywho, please consider me for a sample – dept stores tend to be very stingy:)

This scent sounds very interesting and so unlike other Creeds. Spring Flower turns so sour on me and I must say that my favorite is Silver Mountain Spring Water and Love in White. Please consider me for a sample as well….
Since I live far away I can’t possibly join cause the cost of shipping alone would be enough to make any decent raffler ignore my name. Anyway, I’ve been hearing a lot of good comments about this perfume. If it’s plummy enough I might just bust a few bucks to get my hands on a bottle of this.

The pricing seems steep for the smaller sizes! i couldn’t use up 8.4 ounces of anything, so I’m not thinking about a big bottle. But I’m loathe to pay $130 for 30 ml — things like food and rent spring to mind. And there are many good smaller perfumers offering very tempting scents; when I see that kind of dollars per ml figure, I start looking at the alternatives.
Three lines of fragrance description, and the other 30 a diatribe on a hike in prices (btw Creed isn’t the only one to raise their prices). As a result instead of discussing the pros and cons of the fragrance, the ‘review’ has (once again in the case of Creed) attracted a bitchfest of panning Creed fragrances and their prices. I would have liked a more detailed review and comparisons to other fruity florals out there. Is that too hard to ask from a popular blog such as PPosse? Disappointed.

There really is no need for such negativity. The review could have also mentioned that a percentage of the proceeds would go towards breast cancer research but neglected to do so. The LT/TS guide has done enough negative campaigning against Creed, so much so that most blogs don’t review the line at all, and the ones that do end up (mostly) with results that you see in the comments section here. Most fragrance fans like me just want to read a competitive review of their fragrances…and as recent blog posts and comments indicate (since ViW), Creed do make good stuff, no matter how unfairly biased Tania and LT are against the line.

If you like Parurue(Guerlain) with its plum and rose, you would enjoy Aqua. More lemon and citrus, more drydown of the faint cedarwood and vetiver on me. Ethereal,delicate-expensive or not(I think the large size used to be about 165.00), it was my birthday gift. Creed is never loud, but has delicate sillage that is noticed, and gently follows you and sometimes stays behind, whispering your name.Great for summer-you do not know it’s there, but others will if they are close to you.

I’m a Creedophile. My Holy grail is Fleur de The Rose Bulgare. I think considering the history, variety, and quality of fragrances Creed offers-the prices are in line. Please enter me in the drawing.

Since Nancy was brave enough to come out of the closet, I too will confess to having a serious crush on, and odd preoccupation with, the much maligned Love and White (please don’t judge me). But I haven’t been able to love it enough to fork over the $$$ for a full bottle. If I had discovered it back in the days of being a one-perfume woman, I certainly would have purchased a full bottle. For now, I’m making due with much smaller decants.

Creed fragrances agree very nicely with my skin chemistry, and Fleur de Thé Rose Bulgare is an HG for me…but I do not understand the pricing for the smaller bottles. It may be for the best, as I’d probably have bought most of them by now if they were a little less spendy, so I shouldn’t complain. And please throw my name in your hat, thank you!

I’ve never sampled a creed but would like to. $~100bucks an ounce is standard range, but I can only afford to pay that once a year or so. There are SO MANY things I need for my family that shelling out a hundred bucks on a personal non-necissity seems such a selfish thing to do, and believe me, between my husband and I, we make pretty decent salaries. How do so many people afford to purchase these products at these prices? I understand all of the underlying costs, but if they could all cut their prices in half, they could sell more than double, still maintain the aura of luxury glamour and we could all smell twice as nice!
I would love to try this, and I’m glad to hear it loses that “watery” note. At those prices, I’m afraid I won’t purchasing it, though, so here’s hoping. 🙂
None of the Creeds I’ve tried have really wowed me so far, though I very much like Spring Flowers. Anyway, I love all things plum, and recently paid a pretty penny for TF Velvet Gardenia’s dark and gorgeous plumminess. Very much worth it. Please enter me in the draw.
I’d love to be entered in the drawing and no, I have no idea what’s up with the pricing. At $350 for 8.4 oz, that’s about $42 per oz – even taking into consideration that there is extra packaging because the 1 oz size has to be bottled, charging 3 times the per ounce price is ridiculous and the kind of corporate hubris that keeps me from buying things.
I understand the high pricing on Roja Dove semi-bespoke – it’s a limited edition thing, plus, they are apparently spectacular and the ingredients are expensive. I understand higher prices on ouds compared to acquatics. I understand why parfum is more expensive than an EdP, but this is just price-gouging and treating your customers like they’re stupid.
Thank goodness for decants and bottle-splits.
Hard to tell when luxury pricing veers from “worth it” to “they must be joking”. For example: MDCI 60ml $235 – MAYBE if it’s the most beautiful perfume ever. MDCI 60ml with a little bust on top $610 – No. Never. Buy a bottle of perfume and miniature bust separately…
Then again, there are people who buy $12,000 handbags. We’re not the right audience to be judging “expensive.” Our mortgage payments are less than pocket change for some people…

would love to try this as I am slowly working my way through the Creeds. Pricewise I think it is really a matter of whether I will wear it enough to go through a bottle. I have always taken March’s advice – get a decant first and see if I get through the decant before getting a bottle. I sure wish more lines came in smaller sizes – I would sure would own more Chanel Les Exclusifs if I didn’t have to own 200 ml!!
There are a few Creeds I like but only a couple I actually wear (Angelique Encens, Vanisia, Jasmal and Selection Verte). But then I haven’t tried them all so please enter me in the draw. As for the pricing, that is ludicrous. I wouldn’t pay that for any of the Creeds I like. The problem is that sometimes it is worth it because you love it and sometimes it isn’t because you just don’t love it enough and there is no real rhyme or reason other than that. For example, you would get the By Kilian Oud, I wouldn’t. I would pay for a couple of the MDCIs (refills…), others might not. If I can’t explain why Promesse de l’Aube and 31, Rue Cambon are worth it but Juozas Statkevicius and Tiempe Passate aren’t even though I wear them too and they’re cheaper, I can’t really expect anyone setting the prices to know. The Prada Exclusives and the Tom Fords aren’t worth it to me even though I really like some of them. But I am considering splitting a Roja Dove Semi Bespoke which is more per ml. It’s just a gut feeling personal to us all. Ultimately, recession or no recession, the truly rich are still truly rich and from what the nice man in Selfridges told me, they are buying the Tom Fords, By Kilians and Boadiceas by the truck load. I just need to be friends with someone truly rich and gratefully accept their cast-offs.
Oh, I would love to try this. I currently own Jasmin Imperatrice Eugenie which doesn’t get enough love and the unisex Silver Mountain Water. They were some of the first perfumes I purchased as my perfume obsession was being born.

Creeds are too overpriced! If it was a Chanel Exclusif or some wonderful fragrance, then I might understand $130 for 1oz but for a Creed it’s ridiculous. The bright side of things is that you can get nice Malle and Tauer’s for good prices and others can go ahead it and get the less then stellar Creeds! It is strange that prices keep increasing during these recessionary times. That being said, I’ve read that the “higher-end” luxury perfumes are continuing to sell well. So, in the end the $130 30 ml is probably a marketing ploy to get you to purchase something exclusive.

Oh, hat me up, why not. I’m not a massive Creed fan: I like Green Irish Tweed, Bois du Portugal, and the original Tabarome, but most of their other stuff leaves me cold, or worse, disgusts me. But since I like the smell of plums, this might work.
I have only sniffed a few Creeds…I get overwhelmed when I see the army of them lined up. But I have fallen in love with one of them….the difficult to access and sadly expensive…angelique ensence…that one is stunning. I don’t understand any perfume that is made by modern production that costs over 125 bucks. If you pay more for size, than I also find huge bottles ridiculous. Doesn’t small connote preciousness?

My skin seems to eat the Creeds designed for women. Their men’s scents seem to have more staying power on me…or possibly the “male” notes don’t get eaten like the “female” do. 🙂

Oh, meant to add to the pricing discussion…it appears to me that if they can manufacture 8.4oz, sell it for $350 and make a profit, then the $130 1oz price tag is really more about the marketing: creating an illusion of luxury and expense for the buyer.

Creed: They have always seemed nicely done, probably overpriced. I had thought that if they dropped the retail price by 25%, they’d move a lot faster. Nicely done, but not phenomenal; good ingredients, but fleeting scents. (Maybe that “fleeting” is why the ‘beverage size’–LOL, Mina J.) Nice ideas, but nothing grabby. Ooooh, d@#*ed by “nice”…which is why the price should come down some. Quality nice is worth something…but not pain…
Retail pricing in general: Weird, no? Perhaps the manufacturers have grown even more bold given the recent WSJ report that in retail, one of the few things to go UP in sales volume was high end fragrances. Just what we need–feed the beast that is “what the market will bear.” Of course, the potential converse is that sales go down, and rather than deciding it’s price, they’ll decry lack of interest, and drop the offering(s) entirely. THEN stand back for the wailing…
That said, please put me in the draw! Always curious, I am… 🙂 That grande? tall? size comes out to less than $50/oz, which is a good price for a nice, quality frangrance. 😉
Your question on correct pricing is a hard one to answer! It depends very much on the house, the image, the quality of materials, etc. I realize that I am buying prestige at the higher prices, and for me, some lines are worth it. Hermes, l’Artisan, Serge Lutens…these are lines that for me set the mark, and whose prices (in my mind) are justified on the whole. The Creed line does not “speak” to me in the same way, and therefore the prices seem high. I do wish the 50 ml sizes from the “luxury” lines were more reasonably priced…($110 USD?)

I wish I understood the rationale for the new pricing, but I don’t. I foolishly thought that we would see some new pricing/sizing system to allow people to continue buying the new fragrances on a tighter budget. Decants are my new best friend.

The Creeds I’ve been privileged to sniff are all pleasant enough, but imho the florals (2000, Spring Flowers, Fleurissimo) don’t last long enough to justify the price. Angelique Encens lasts, but they’re discontinuing it, right? Love in White lasts but…meh. This one actually sounds a little like Rosine’s Poussiere de Rose. Hmmm. Can I be entered in the drawing?

$350 for 8.4 ounces seems reasonable, except who wants 8.4 ounces of perfume? Eight ounces is a beverage, not a fragrance. And at that price, you’d think that a fair price for one ounce would be maybe $70, not nearly twice that.
But perfume prices being what they are, $130 for an ounce doesn’t even make me bat an eyelash anymore.

Truth is, I haven’t sampled enough Creeds to have an edumakated opinion, but the few men’s Creeds I’ve tried I’ve kind of hated… even though I didn’t want to. I’m still willing to try though, and I’m about to buy a decant of Fleur de Thé Rose Bulgare from a friend (because I’m a sucker? and an addict?). And yes, I’d love a chance to sample this one.
As for prices: who knows? At this point, I’m buying splits of almost everything, and what I’m not buying splits of I’m buying on ebay for cheeeeeeeep (being the cheeeeapskate I am). That Creed 8.4 oz price sounds just about right to me. At this point, I guess anything more than $200/100ml (the retail price of Malle) seems WAY expensive. Then again, if I’m buying a small decant, I’ll obviously go higher: Just spent $4/ml for some Spiritueuse Double Vanille, and that’s kinda up there as my craziest purchase for the past several months.
I don’t know what is going on with pricing since the recession started. I think the companies are nuts. I make my own perfumes and certain natural ingredients have gone up considerably, but others have gone down, and the synthetics are stable price-wise. I’ve also noticed most new releases are very watered-down and almost totally synthetic, so really, prices should be going down, right? But it’s been just the opposite. Partly as a result, sales seem to be very slow here in Germany, I’ve even seen sales, which is very rare here. And many perfume shops have decreased their space for perfumes to make way for more cosmetics. What’s up? Please enter me in the drawing, though! Thanks.
