Random Sunday – LMAO

Tom’s posting tomorrow, we’re having a three-day weekend and doing some museum-going on Monday with my captive kid audience.

In other exciting news, I got a new Droid cell phone yesterday, at the end of our long-anticipated divorce from the craptastic AT&T network and back to Verizon.  My husband and girls bullied me into it.  I’m still playing with the Droid; never has fine new technology been so wasted on a human being as this thing on me, I tell you.  I’m the person who’s had an actual Go-Phone for two years — one of those things in the clamshell packaging off the rack for $15 at Best Buy — because whenever a teen’s phone breaks they get my upgrade.  Because heaven forbid they have to go to school with a cheesy, out-of-date phone.

The most amusing thing about playing with the Droid thus far (although watching me do anything, including trying to answer a call, is amusing to my teenagers) is the autocorrect feature in text messaging.  The New York Times magazine had a funny article about autocorrect this morning in their magazine, and they mentioned a website that shows various autocorrect text fails — Damn You Auto Correct!

And hence this quick post on a Sunday night, because frankly I can’t remember the last time I laughed so hard.  My ribs ache. Even the dog came in to see what the problem was, followed by Diva, yelling, “you okay in there?”  I should probably mention that what makes so many of these bloopers funny is that they turn out unintentionally raunchy in nature, just in case you end up reading this at work.

When I found that site I could NOT stop looking at it – and laughing until I cried! I have not laughed so much in a long time. I still visit about once a week to see the new stuff. Darn thing is like crack!

  • Claudia says:

Wow, that is funny! I only made it thru 20 pages and I had to take a breather. Saving the rest for later.
    I have a pre-paid TracPhone. And I don’t care.

LMAO and spewing tea! And my sides still hurt from laughing yesterday afternoon at Spamalot! Got to see the national touring company production and it was hands down the funniest play I’ve ever seen!

March…I am crying I am laughing to hard at the auto correct errors….It really made my day!!!!

BTW I just got a Droid for Christmas and LOVE it. (Except I am a little spazzie with touch screen…I wind up calling people when I am just scrolling thru contacts, but I am working on my touchscreen skills) ;) :(

    • March says:

I know! I accidentally called my sister-in-law at 11pm, messing with the contacts file. Oops. And I still haven’t decided about the touch-screen keyboard. It’s so easy to make mistakes, although I’m sure I’ll improve. If I don’t I’ll switch it for one with a hard keyboard, which they make.

I’m a big fan of DYAC, it’s an excellent day-starter. I’m interested in how you like the Droid – I’ve stuck with Verizon lo these many years because I refused to change service providers, and now my fidelity has been rewarded! I’m due for an upgrade in a few months and I’ll be able to choose between an iPhone & a Droid, which is apparently giving the iPhone a run for its money. So keep us posted.

I’m sure you can find all sorts of analyses online about one vs. the other, and it will depend on how you use it. All I can say thus far is: I’m not tech-savvy (obvs.) and I could never figure out how to do a damn thing on the iPhone — the Cheese has/had one — without asking a kid. I’m sure I haven’t touched 5% of the Droid, but I’ve figured out how to set up my email, address book, some basic features etc without resorting to the manual. I like that it seems (?) a little smaller and lighter than the iPhone.

The other reason I finally went for it is: there are in fact times when I’m out and about with some mess of kids and I need to look up a number online or need a map or etc., and having a phone that can finally do that will be very nice.

Great post, March! My jaw is starting to throb from laughing so hard. Glad to see I’m not the only one with a “passe” (sorry, can’t do accent) phone. I’m just not into all the bells and whistles, and, believe it or not, I really do use it just for calls. I know, I know, a dinosaur! But just wait until my son gets older — I’ll be forced into a cool phone :)

    • March says:

I won’t be shocked if I end up switching my Droid with one of the girls eventually and just taking their phone with a keyboard.

  • Ann C says:

ROTFL!! I’m laughing so hard I have tears rolling down my face. I might have to buy the book. :) Thanks for posting the link!

You didn’t wait for the iPhone on Verizon?

Funny thing, the Friday before they officially announced it, I suddenly and for the first time since I defected to AT&T got coverage in my house…

    • March says:

Husband has an iPhone, which is why we switched to ATT. ATT coverage around here just isn’t very good, and Verizon has a lockdown on the subway. Also I never quite fell in love with the iPhone, tinkering with it, I don’t know why. It seems great to play games on, but wasn’t much of a phone.

Me and my husband are huge fans of that site – got it bookmarked and check it often. They are so funny, I’m laughing out loud – my husband doesn’t even ask me what I’m reading anymore since it’s always that.

  • Daniela says:

I love that site… When I first saw it, I sat for a solid hour giggling at all the crazy embarrassing messages. haha :)

  • (Ms.)Christian says:

OMG. I am sitting here in hair dye hell, freezing as I wait 1 hour for the color to completely cover my grey. There is no better way to pass the time!

Thank you thank you thank you.

  • Delfina says:

Oh my… It’s 3:00 a.m. here and I’m waking up the neighbours… had to clean up my glasses twice since I’m practically sobbing!

  • Musette says:

    =))

Howling like a banshee over here – so bad that El O closed the door so he could hear the TV over my yowlping!

    xo >-)

  • Musette says:

You know that I believe SkyNet (the seed that spawns Terminator) originated with Spell Check, don’t you?
