Very Special giveaway from profumo.it

First, the winners of the Serge Vitriol samples from last week:  Ninara Poll, JAntoinette, Catherine and Flora. Most of you know the drill – click on the Contact Us button on the left, remind me what you’ve won and send me your address, I’ll send you a quick “got it” e-mail so you know you didn’t land in my spam filter, and I’ll get these out to you. Enjoy!!!

The nice profumo.it folks sent me a nice bottle of Sharif and some samples of it as well to give away to you guys. Yeah!!!!!  So I have three generous samples and one 32 ml bottle to give away.  Drop a comment to be entered into the drawing!  It’s a great leather.

I read Tom’s nonreview about seeing The Help, and I went to see it Wednesday evening.  I really liked the book, it was compulsively readable. The movie did a nice job of covering that territory, but I think this is one story that loses something in the translation just because what I liked about the book the most was the story-telling.  It hooked early and drug me to the finish into the wee hours of the morning.  The person that went with me hadn’t read the book, and he really liked the movie on its own. So I think the story holds up in both formats.

And with that, I’m off to put a heating pad on my back and some painkillers.  Not sure how I strained it, but I did, and it is being incredibly loud and complainy since this afternoon!

I’m not that familiar with the profumo.it line, except that I know that the guy that owns/runs/composes for them is incredibly nice and generous, and I hear that from multiple sources. Leather scents aren’t really my thing most of the time, so what should I sample from this line?  Favorites?  Recommendations?

Ice reduces the inflamation (I have thrown my back out a time or two working in freight unpacking boxes shipped to my work).
A “cool” recipe for an icepack-
    2cups rubbing/isopropal alcohol
    4cups water
in a gallon freezer bag .Eliminate excess air and double/triple baggie it .Freeze it overight .Pull it out ,wrap it in a bath towel(trust me this is COLD!!!!) and apply wrapped icepack to the injured area .Be careful not to get frostbite as it’s VERY COLD!
    Hope you feel better soon!

    • Jennifer says:

Oh -and my favorite leathers are Azuree ,Aramis,Cabochard(Yeah- I’m a Bernard Chant fangirl -so sue me)Quarum ,Replique and Miss Dior.

  • ggs says:

I’ve sampled a number of fragrances in this line, and the one I liked the most was Mecca Balsam. La Via Del Profumo has a great sample program,WA set of 5 ml minis that arrive in a little wooden crate. I asked about several scents I had read reviews of that werent listed for the sample program, and he thoughtfully enclosed 1 ml vials of those too.
Of course I’d love to try this new leather fragrance. Carol had a great interactive conversation with the owner/perfumer AbdesSalaam Attar last September on her blog WAFT.

  • Barbara says:

I would love to give this a try, it’s been getting great reviews!

  • nicolibba says:

I don’t know this line either so I can’t help – sorry. I do appreciate the drawing! Thanks

  • Cindi says:

This line of scents is new to me! Sorry, that I can’t
make any suggestions for you to try. I would appreciate
    being entered in your drawing…
    Many thanks, Cindi

  • KathyT says:

I haven’t tried anything from this line, so I’d love to be included in the drawing please.

  • Wordbird says:

Oh shoot, stick me in the drawer please! I’m tediously straight. I may swear I love Lancome Cuir because it’s so purely ‘straight’, but then I wear Dzing! because it smells like the horses I adore and feel so close to. There\s that gap between the logical and the emotional… So very British…

  • Kirsten says:

Am I too late to be entered into the draw? I don’t know much about the Profumo line, but they did catch my eye at TPC when I was pondering my next selection of sample goodies!
I think my favourite leather would have to be Bandit.

  • Lizzie says:

I’ve been lusting after Sharif after I read the amazing review over at Grain de Musc the other day. It sounds so good! I’d love to be entered in your draw, thank you. :)

  • Kari says:

    Oooh, leather! Count me in.

(*)I would like to be entered in the drawing. Thank you.

  • Bellatrix says:

Uh I don’t know what to suggest… I don’t even know how would leather notes react on 35°C :)
    Thanks for the draw

  • Gisela says:

A leather that’s about nobility – count me in!

  • Alexander greene says:

Ooo, yes I really want to try this one! I found his animal tester pack quite revealing and wonderful…

  • Audrey H. says:

Ive seen this line mentioned but have not tried any of their scents. I’d love to try a great leather scent, thanks for the chance. Hope your pain is short lived!

  • RVB says:

Count me in! I would try the Mecca Balsam

  • Amy K says:

I’m not familiar with the line, but I’d love to be entered in the drawing. Thanks!

  • mariekel says:

I love leather — please include me in the draw!

I quite like Hindu Kush. I would recommend Naviris as an earthy iris but it last about 5 minutes on me, sadly. Same with the Zafferano — I would love this dirty saffron scent if it stuck around for more than a few moments.

    • Flora says:

Mariekel, I LOVE Hindu Kush and Tcharas too, they are so RUGGED and distinctive. They both last very well on me, but I would just kill to smell them on a man!.

  • Singlemalt says:

Have only tried tried Mecca Balsam. Was loverly. Would like to try more especially leathers. Have a few in my collection-Cuir d’Lancome, Knize Ten, Serges Cuir, but I love a good leather. So please count me in.:d

  • Ninara Poll says:

I haven’t been able to try anything from profumo.it, so I can’t recommend anything :( I would love to enter the draw, however (even though I was just lucky enough to win one!), as yesterday was my father’s birthday, he LOVES leather scents, and I have a secret hope that I win so I can give him what I win :)

  • Marle says:

This is a very iteresting parfumerie. I have many samples thanks to their sample order and the fellow could not be more obliging and kind in assisting in choices. Like everyone else, I agree that Mecca Balsam is a winner. I also very much like African Night.

Please enter me to win the Sharif sample. I’d love to try this. There is something very special about these fragrances.

  • Dana says:

Love leather scents, one of my favorite being Cuir de Lancome. Would love to be in the drawing. Saw “The Help” today and have not read the book yet. Very much liked it.

  • melanie says:

I don’t think I have any leather perfumes so would love to try this. Please enter me in the drawing.

  • Karen G says:

You need to try Mecca Balsam. I’m seriously considering buying a full bottle. I’m dying to try Sharif… many thanks for putting me in the draw!

  • Dante's Bra says:

I’ve only tried Mecca Balsam, but it’s beautiful, and I’d love a chance to win Sharif! His bottles are so lovely, and I’m very interested to try more from this line…

  • Flora says:

Oh SQUEE, I can’t wait to get the Vitriol sample, will send my addy ASAP! Thank you!!!

Would love to be entered for the Sharif as well, I adore the Profumo.it line and leather too! I have been so impressed with this line form what i have tried so far.

Re; The Help, this is one of the few films this summer that have even remotely attracted my interest, I really must see it soon.

  • Homura says:

Please add me to the draw, like you I’ve heard lots of good things about profumo.it but haven’t sampled any of the line yet!

  • Joanna says:

Ohhhhh I’ve sampled several of their fragrances listed at TPC. I’m especially fond of Special Scents Hay, Aalacho and also Holy Water. Sea Wood, Tabac and Tasneem were really nice too. I’d be thrilled to win a sample of Sharif.

Soaking in an epsom salt bath and applying magnesium oil helps when I’m having back problems, (Which is often. I have spinal stenoisis.)But the heating pad and lots of rest seems to be the best medicine.

  • Gina says:

Oh please oh please oh please enter me in the drawing!

  • Isayah says:

Leather attracts me a lot lately and I would be pleased to explore this perfume! Please enter me in the draw!

  • James Dotson says:

His line is really amazing. I have ordered several bottles of the ambergris tincture which is great for layering with anything.

  • Claudia says:

I’m afraid I’m not familiar with the profumo.it line either, but would love a chance to try Sharif. Thanks so much for the draw!

  • LindaB says:

Haven’t tried the line but I do love leather! Please enter me in the draw…thanks and feel better!

  • Shevette says:

Hi there! I dont know this line, but i do enjoy a good leather. Please enter me into the drawing.

  • Rednails says:

Please enter me in the draw. never tried anything of this line but kill for leather. Musette turned me on to AL Film Noir; love that stuff.

  • Lavanya says:

I thought I didn’t like leather scents either- but I have ended up loving many leather scents- especially when the leather is either spicy/floral or incensey..
Please enter me in the draw!

  • jirish says:

So sorry about your back! Hope you are feeling better soon. I’m not that familiar with this line, beyond their Mecca Balsam, which I like a lot. I would like to try this, and have also been eyeing their oak moss scent, and dreaming about their bespoke fragrance service, which is pretty reasonable – only $400.

  • AnnieA says:

Sadly, Mecca Balsam made me sneeze. Might be willing to give ’em anothre go, though…

  • grizzlesnort says:

Please enter me in your draw.
    Sorry about your back.
Arome de Ben-Gay? Get well fast.

  • Smoke and Ashes says:

I’d love to be in the draw.

My favourites so far from profumo.it are Grezzo d’Eleganza, an elegant and self-assured resin and castoreum concoction, which I can see would come across as masculine on a man, but really doesn’t in the least on me, and Legno di Nave, a rather unusual scent I’m somewhat at a loss to describe – there are spices, and vetiver, but mostly a fascinating sort of tidal rock-pool minus the ozone smell. For about 10 minutes Chilum is a fantastic slightly musty ginger and smoke scent (which, alright, may not sound that appealing, particularly the musty bit, but is lovely); afterwards it’s an admirable and quite tenacious sandalwood scent, but I can’t help missing the wonderful top notes. Apart from those, I’ve been most taken so far with Cuoio Tartaro, which is quite subtle and beautifully blended, and I which I keep hoping I’ll fall for if I try often enough, although I may be reaching the point I have to admit it’s just not going to happen (I can imagine someone who didn’t generally like leather liking this, which since I love leather may be the problem for me), and Hindu Kush, which I also have hopes I’ll appreciate more with further wearings.

The various tinctures he does, some quite unusual, like hyraceum and ambergris, are also fascinating to play with.

  • Fernando says:

Definitely interested in this one. I tried Mecca Balsam, but it didn’t quite work for me. Seemed a little too reminiscent of Baklava. But the line does intrigue me. Someday I’ll find the money to order a bunch of samples.

Hope you get better soon. Pain is always very difficult.

  • FragrantWitch says:

    Leather you say? Yes, please!

Wishing you a speedy recovery, Patty. I am unfortunately very familiar with back pain and know it to be misery. Spray a comfort scent, pour a drink and take a painkiller!

    Thanks for the chance!

  • Kat K says:

Leather!?!?! Count me in, I would love to sample that.

  • tammy says:

No need to enter me in the draw, as I’m not a leather girl, but Mecca Balsam really is wonderful! I’d love to try the Tabac some day.

  • Nancy says:

Mecca Balsam is my recommendation. Did not get the whole leather thing but more oriental…
I’d love to be in this draw and win this Sharif!
    Please enter me. Thanks.
(I have found that a book most often overrides any movie with being best. Too many details left out of movies with their time element and all. And nothing tops one’s own imagination of the words on the page.)

  • Austenfan says:

You are so generous, especially under the circumstances!
I haven’t yet tried any of the Via del Profumo’s scents. Mecca balsam is supposed to be excellent and I have heard good things about his Tabac as well.
I would love to be entered in the draw! Thanks.

  • miki says:

Would love to try. Been reading about Sharif here and there. Thank tou.

  • sara says:

I would love to try this one! Please enter me into the drawing. Feel better soon!

  • jen says:

Im nursing along a tiny sample of Cuir de R; love leather. Also like the book of the Help but not interested in the movie, although the clothes look interesting.

  • dleep says:

Oh, I love leather. Please put me in the draw. Thank you. Hope your back feels better soon.

  • dremybluz says:

please enter me in the draw

  • kjanicki says:

Please enter me in the draw. I recommend you try Mecca Balsam, it’s a beautiful incense.

  • Janice says:

Joining everyone else who has recommended Mecca Balsam. I would love to try Sharif too!

  • sonia garcia says:

I have tried the Mecca Balsam and it is a nice incense frag, but I’d love to win this one and tried it, I love leather frags.

  • Matt says:

    Now, leather!!

A note I have learned to like, because in the beginning, it was just making me think of pink soap from public restrooms (Knize Ten, that was!). And there are, as I can see, many types of leather. The one in Knize Ten/Cuir Mauresque (which for me smell almost the same), and the leather from Dzing/Bulgari Black, which I don’t like as much. Oh, and there’s the synthetic stuff from TOF that I like a lot… Anyway, all this leather is making me confused, but it still is one of the most interesting notes in perfumery!!

And I’ll be happy to discover the Profumo.it line!! Looks very refined and mysterious!!

  • Chance says:

Yes, please! I’ve been dying to try Sharif. :)

  • Pattie says:

Hi Patty – hope you feel better. I’ve had back issues on and off for years and they can be incredibly debilitating. Advil and swimming saved me, nothing else seemed to work. Go slow with twisting positions when you get back to yoga. No need to enter me in the drawing as I can’t smell anything – I broke my nose (and ripped up my face and neck)while on vacation. Hit a wave wrong and slammed into the sand. Scary and painful – Surgery in 2 weeks!

  • Maureen says:

Sorry to hear of the bad back…I had a sciatica problem last year that came out of nowhere…just woke up in the middle of the night in spasm. Muscle relaxers, pain killers, and chiropractic sessions for 8 weeks seemed to cure it. Wishing you lots of rest and elves to do all your heavy lifting, bending, and housework(Yuk. I do not know many leathers, thought I tried a sample of Miss Dior from TPC and I loved it…does it count as a leather? Please enter me in draw. Thanks.

  • Milena says:

I have not tried this line, but i like leather fragrances (leather is one of my favorite notes). Please enter me in the drawing.

I hope you are feeling better.

  • jill says:

I love leather scents, even when it’s too hot to wear them, please enter me in the drawing, thank you!

  • Lisa says:

I;m not familiar with this line, but love to try any scent labeled, “leather”. Please enter me in the drawing. Thanks.

  • rosiegreen says:

    P. S. Of course I want to be entered in the draw. So please count me in.

  • rosiegreen says:

I have not tried this perfume line yet. I love leather and my favorite is Habanita. For your back you may want to try the Salonpas. They are a stick on aspirin patch and work wonders for me. Also the stick on heating pads are great when you have to be around and about.

  • Alnysie says:

Ooh, leather! I want to know more about them, since some of my favorite perfumes have leather notes, but I haven’t yet investigated. Please enter me in the draw! Thank you!

  • Isa says:

What a great draw! I’d love to be entered. I have read good reviews of Sharif and many other perfumes in the line.

  • TaffyJ says:

Ooo, I wonder if this is as nice as their Patchouli Noir. (raises hand) Me too in the draw!

I am reading “Help” now and it is hard to put down. Work keeps interrupting! (They don’t call it “work” for nothing.)

    Thanks for the draw!

  • Debbie R. says:

I hope the painkillers work & that you have someone to help w/things around the house.

    I’d love to try Sharif.

  • SniffingAround says:

I don’t know the line, but looove leathers, so please enter me for the draw!
Thanks, and hope your back improves!

  • Katherine says:

Please enter me in the draw, thanks!

  • Annamer says:

Hi Patty – good luck with your back, I know they can be miserable! Would love to be in your draw for the Sharif, have also read good things online on this one. The only one I’ve tried from the line is again the Mecca Balsam, and I did like it, although not enough to purchase. I’ve been meaning to sample more from them as many of them sound lovely, and I believe they use more natural materials. Thanks for offering these to us!

  • Ann says:

Hi, Patty. Hope you are feeling better; back pain really is a pain because it affects everything. I have a wonky back from years ago, so I’m very careful.
The Sharif sounds lovely. I never was much of a leather girl but have been coming around to it.

  • Olfacta says:

Back problem ladies — moist heat, then gentle stretching, then ice (a bag of frozen vegetables works fine) for 20 minutes 3 times a day, plus as many NSAIDs as you can handle, during the acute phase. Then yoga, stretching, walking, strength training — forever. Trust me on this, it’s the only way. (Hope I don’t sound like a know-it-all.)

    I love leather!

  • Gvillecreative says:

I’d love to win the Sharif, of course. This is the company that sells the Ambergris tincture, right? I yearn for that stuff! I imagine it’d be awesome for layering.

  • Queen Cupcake says:

Hope your back is feeling better very soon! I would love to try Sharif. I think I have tried something from Profumo.it, but can’t remember what it is at the moment–have to dig into my samples box… I think I liked it though, because their name is on my wishlist.

  • Masha says:

I am in the heating pad club, too, this week. We threw pots for the first time in ceramics class, had no idea it took so much muscle, so much time hunkered over that wheel- I actually made 2 good pots, but when I stood up, aiiiyee!!!! Hope you’re better soon. Sharif sounds very soothing, I could use some of that right now, please enter me in the draw!

  • Marte says:

I’m not familiar with the profumo.it line, but I’ve heard good things about Sharif and Mecca Balsam. Would love to be entered in the draw, thanks!

  • Civava says:

I’m fan of leather fragrances so one more in collection would do no harm, won’t it?

  • rosarita says:

Thanks for the opportunity! I do love the leather. Hope your back loosens up soon, that’s a miserable feeling.

  • NancyAnnK says:

Never tried this line. Love leather, would love to be entered into the drawing. Thank you!

  • Lindaloo says:

From profumo.it I’d look at Mecca Balsam. A leather topnote, but more tobacco and incense. If you’re looking for something more floral, perhaps Oasis or the light style of African Night might fit the bill. And I’ve read good things about the osmanthus-centered Frutti Paradisi.
    Thanks for the draw opportunity.

  • Luna says:

I’ve read lots about the perfumer, but I haven’t sampled anything yet. I adore leather, so count me in the draw!

  • Ela says:

Anything with Oriental vibe sounds test-worthy for me! Read great reviews of Sharif already- thank you for the draw!

  • Jared says:

Woo! Put me in for the drawing! I’ve heard such great things about the line, I’d love to explore it! Especially this one.

  • Jiyin says:

I’m sorry to hear about your back! Rest up and get better.

I don’t really know the profumo.it line, but would love to be entered into the draw anyway. Thank you!

  • Maureen C says:

We are a leather loving household – fragrancewise- my partner has Knize 10, Habanita and Cuir de Russie all on his Desert Island list and I love Bandit and Sarrasins. Hm does that make sense? In Britain we have an iconic radio programme called “desert island discs” where notable people (rather than simply celebrities) choose 8 records/tracks that relate to significant moments in their lives. Consequently we tend to compile lists of 8 desert island books, films, etc and in our case perfumes. Then at the end you have to choose the ONE you can’t live without. I would love to be entered in the draw

  • Furriner says:

I, too, have only tried Mecca Balsam… which is very good… and I am very intrigued by the line. Wish he had an outlet here.

Coincidentally, “Sharif” is my alias at work (to confuse would-be stalkers!).

SIgn me up for the draw! As usual, this is very generous. Thank you.

  • Irina says:

    please, enter me the draw
I tried and very much loved their Mecca Balsam

  • Lisa D says:

Me, three – I haven’t tried anything from this line, although I have entertained longing thoughts about their cioccolata ambra scent (a combination of notes I was recently surprised to discover – through layering Ambre Fetiche with Fleur de Chocolat – that I really enjoyed). So, if you end up trying the chocolate amber, please let me know what it’s like!

  • Madea says:

I’d like to be entered. I don’t know the line, but my favorite leather is Habanita.

  • Meg says:

I am not familiar with their line so I can’t give you any recommendations, but I’d still like to be entered in the draw! (Is that okay? is it cheating?) I will say I am not very well versed in leather and would like the opportunity to explore it more!

  • Cooper says:

Did you say leather. Count me in. Can’t make any recommendations as I am not familiar with the line, but would love to try it.
