Maison Francis Kurkdjian Aqua Universalis Forte

I wasn’t expecting much of this since it has the dreaded “Aqua” in the title.  But I’ve found that I like his pour le soir scents a lot and whatever is in there that makes it “Forte” makes me like it a lot.  It’s a simple blend of citrus, white flowers and woods, but it seems to be amped up to about 11.  While it does have that clean and fresh aspect to it but manages to keep it well away from the fresh laundry aspect of things, for which I’m glad.  While it’s fairly unisex, I honestly think it would be better on a woman in that casually sexy, borrowed the boyfriends button-down kind of way.

The only downside I can see is the $265 for 70ML part.

At Neiman Marcus and LuckyScent.  I asked for and received my sample from the latter and from whom I borrowed the image.

I simply couldn’t go away your web site prior to suggesting that I extremely loved the standard information an individual supply in your visitors? Is going to be again ceaselessly in order to check out new posts

  • Natalie says:

This surprised me too, and for the same reason. But not enough to buy it.

  • Tara C says:

This was pleasant, but not $265 pleasant.

  • Francesca says:

I don’t really care for any of the MFK scents, but my heart belongs to Promesse de l’Aube, at least the original version.

  • March says:

I liked the sexy one, but I think the prices are nuts. I guess $265 is the new $150?

  • Musette says:

    Tom,

I keep wanting to love his stuff in that Emperor’s New Clothes sort of way but it is for naught – while none of them leave me wanting to scrub, neither do they transport me to any heights further than my Manolos take me (just stop and visualize that for a minute…;)) That price is skeerifying, too, veering dangerously into Cartier terrortory 😮 . Even loving her as I do it’s still all I can do to keep my liver from jumping out every time I see the prices on Les Heures. 😮

    xo >-)

    • Masha says:

Yes, I passed on L’Heure Mysterieuse for that reason.

    • Tom says:

I was trying not to bitch once again about a price point and say that I have about three things that will have the same effect cheaper, but then I just did, didn’t I?

I liked it and if someone gave it to me I’d wear it. But frankly I’d prefer the cash.

  • Joanna says:

I dunno. Not a fan of Aquas either and APOMS was one helluva stink on me.

  • Masha says:

I really wanted to like this as I love the APOMS and his paper incense. But there was some laundry aromachemical in this that just went nuclear on me, I wanted to scream, and it wouldn’t come off! So I used the rest of the sample in my laundry, and it smelled heavenly. I liked it much better on fabric than skin.

    • Ann says:

Hi, Tom. I’ve only gotten one sniff of this but I kind of like it, and as you say, it’s better than the original.

    • Ann says:

Hi, Masha. Good way not to waste it, you clever girl. But when did you put it in — in one of the rinse cycles, perhaps?

    • ElizabethC says:

I am thinking about having my husband (who will be in Paris soon) pick up some of the paper incense. Would love some input from someone who has tried them. What scents of the paper incense did you try and how would you describe them?

      • Masha says:

He worked closely with the makers of Papier d’Armenie, and the results are fantastic. Any of them are beautiful, but my favorite is the Lumiere Noire, the rose. Yum!
