Your turn (by Ann)

I’m going to turn the tables a little on you today, dear Posse peeps, and put the ball in your court, so to speak.

If you’ve won a sample or samples from us in the past year or so, would love to hear if you liked it (them) enough to get another sample/decant, or even enough to spring for a full bottle. Or if you’ve tried something and loved it because of a review or mention on the Posse.

I confess, I drooled after Patty’s review of Dior’s New Look 1947  last winter and have been happily sampling it ever since. Still drooling over a full bottle but, alas, it’s not in the cards for me right now.

It’s a little early, but want to wish all of you a very happy Thanksgiving (for those who celebrate it) and safe travels to those of you going out of town.

  • Ann says:

Great find in the BV, there, Kismet! I’m not a huge leather person and I love it as well. Also good to know they have it at Nordstrom, as I thought it was only at Neiman’s and at the BV boutiques.

  • Kismet says:

Was in Nordstrom’s the other day, just passing through dontcha know, and spied the new Bottega Veneta that everyone is talking about. A nice SA gave me a sample and I spritzed.

True. Love. In fact I’m wearing it now. I may just have to break down and buy a bottle when my sample runs out.

Because I read PP, I’m both richer and poorer. But mostly richer, I think.

  • Ann says:

It is very nice, isn’t it, Maureen? I was very pleasantly surprised by it. I’ve only got a dab sample but would like to try it sprayed as well.

  • Maureen C says:

I was lucky enough to win the sample of Serge Lutens de Profundis recently. It really drew me in and I found it quite beautiful. It isn’t “out there” like lots of the more cult SL fragrances but I am certainly considering purchasing a small decantso that I can spray it on. Anyway it is just great fun to actually win something!!!

  • Matt says:

I recently won a couple of samples from Patty (including my first Tauers!). I really liked pentachord white. Oh, and By Killian’s Sweet Redemption too, it’s so incredibly fluffy! I haven’t bought any decants of those, though. I rather save for FB, and I have so many on my to-buy list, I just try not to think too much about it…
Looking forward to wearing Borneo (I’ll open it only at X-mas Argh!) and Bvlgari black (on it’s way) !

    • Ann says:

Nice choices, Matt. Glad you’re enjoying them. I, too, liked the Pentachord White.

    • Brooke says:

      Matt,
It sounds like we won the same sample package. While I enjoyed several, I haven’t been moved to buy a full bottle of any. Glad you enjoyed the freebies as well. Isn’t winning great!

  • Millicent says:

I’ve only entered a sample a couple of times, but did actually win once and got a great bunch o’ stuff from Musette. Of those, my new favorite became Mure et Musc Extreme, which I’d tried and hated years ago. Loving the sample, I swapped for a decant back in June and am really enjoying it.

And since March is lurking somewhere, I’ll cop to not really loving the Alahine I got in that same swap. It’s getting better, but when I first smelled it out of the box I was horribly disappointed with the honey-cat pee smell. Where was that gorgeousness that everyone else got? I like it better now, but I have to be in the right mood and can’t really wear it for a full day.

    • Musette says:

      Millicent –

I’m with you on the Alahiiiiine. I just don’t get it. Lord knows I’ve tried.

      😕

      xo >-)

ps. glad you like the MeM Extreme. That one has a lot of fans!

  • Faylene says:

Well, I haven’t received it yet but I just ordered some AG Noel room spray because it was mentioned in March’s post last week. In case you’re interested, NM is offering a nice premium for an $85 purchase of beauty and/or fragrance and, until 11:59pm CST on 11/23, there’s also free shipping with no minimum purchase. No affiliation; just delighted not to have to pay outrageous shipping costs! Happy Thanksgiving to those who observe and Happy Thursday to those who don’t

    • Ann says:

Thanks, Faylene, for the great info on the NM specials. Gotta love that free shipping! And that Noel room spray does sound luscious, but I have to watch those with son’s allergies. I usually just do diffusers, but maybe one day they’ll give get on the stick and give Noel the stick (reed) treatment.

      • Faylene says:

Nope. But at least they’ve seen the light and made Noel available as candles! :-j

        • Ann says:

Yes, must try the candles. Haven’t tried any of their candles, so am hoping that they have decent “throw.”

  • AnnieA says:

Haven’t won any perfume samples, but I did get some British skincare samples, so I still feel like a winner…

    • Ann says:

Hey, AnnieA, congrats on the skin care samples. Remember, you’re one of our cool Posse peeps, so you’re always a winner to us …

  • Flora says:

Oh my goodness, this site has inspired countles treasure hunts for me, and most of them have had positive outcomes! I can’t count how many perfumes I have tried (and mostly loved)because of you guys.

However, I did win a sample recently – SL Vitriol d’Oeillet, and it’s very nice but not what I was wishing for. I guess the name over-promises and under-delivers. I was hoping for a fiery diva like the way JAR Golconda used to be prior to its reported taming, a new Bellodgia for the ages, and I thought Uncle Serge was The Man to do it. That said, it’s really lovely and I expect I will get a decant at some point, becasue I really love a good carnation fragrance and they are all too few these days.

    • Ann says:

Hi, Flora, I’m with you on the Vitriol — it’s not what I expected either, but as you say, it’s still quite lovely.

  • Musette says:

I blame the Posse (and Patty, I believe) for Tribute Attar. [-(

I blame the Posse (and March, I believe) for Jublation 25 [-(

I blame the Posse (and myself, alas) for Epic. :((

    xo >-)

  • March says:

Hehehe, what a fabulous topic! I’m going to lurk on here today and see if anyone bought anything unsniffed that I reviewed and then thought it was crap. (no hard feelings I hope.) Or they liked it, which is of course better.

I pretty much don’t put myself in for draws anywhere, it doesn’t seem fair and I doubt I’d win anyway. But I did smell a brand new Neil Morris on Louise which I swooooooned over and she graciously gave me a decant. I’m blogging about that on Wed.

  • hongkongmom says:

eeeep, i am a posse peep! just popping in to say a quick hi! So many of my purchases, lemmings are because of this blog, so now i pop in for the knowledge and company :-)

  • Catherine says:

    Hi Ann!

I won a sample of the new carnation scent by SL, and the first time I put it on, the memories that came tumbling were so intense. My mother’s favorite flower when I was growing up was the carnation, and every time we went to the mall, she got one. We didn’t have money, so that was a big deal. The fragrance brought back the smell–not entirely pleasant, but meaningful.

After that first try, I mainly smell the Lutens smell, so I haven’t explored further. I have a number of SL fragrances I adore and wear regularly (Serge Noire, Gris Clair, Chypre Rouge, A La Nuit, Fleur d’Oranger), so I just keep sniffing the sample for a little sniff of the past.

  • Joanna says:

I won a sample of Creed Royal-Oud, it didn’t last long as I would have bathed in it if possible. I would buy a bottle if I could afford it. I have purchased a few more samples of it though.
I purchased a bottle of Réglisse Noir after reading the review here and am so very glad I did.
I ordered samples of all the Summer of Patchouli Love fragrances and am still wandering through them and going back to the reviews as I do.
I have Opus Oils Star F***er on my Christmas list. It would be appropriate even if I have been naughty.

    • Ann says:

Hi, Joanna, I’m with you on that Royal Oud — I thought it was beautifully smooth and very well-done. Haven’t tried the others yet, though.

  • carlene says:

Yes! I won a decant of Coze,

    http://perfumeposse.com/2010/01/14/time-to-get-coze/

I haven’t purchased a full bottle, but I have purchased a jumbo decant from The Perfumed Court. I think Lee also put a little sample of Cuir Ottoman in there, and I’ve since bought another decant and am considering another jumbo decant. Can you say noncommittal? (I can’t even remember my last full bottle purchase, honestly.)

    • Ann says:

Don’t sweat it, Carlene, I do the same thing — sample the daylights out of something but can’t commit to a full bottle. Glad you like the Coze, too.

  • LindaB says:

I won a sample of Diaghliev (why does it look like I didn’t spell that right???) and upon opening the package, went straight to the old internets to find more!! Carol set me up with a decent size and it’s been happily ever after. heehee

Happy Thanksgiving all! We’re hosting again this year and I’m giddy with excitement. I love holidays and the preparations. Life is good.

    • Ann says:

Oooh, Linda, gotta love that Diaghilev. It’s just amazing, isn’t it? I treasure my small decant of it. Hope you have a great holiday — you sound like the hostess with the mostest!

    • Musette says:

      Linda,

Just jumping on here to say I’m thrilled you loved the Diaghilev (it never looks like it’s spelled right, imo [-( ). It really is a beauty!

      xo >-)

  • Alnysie says:

I won last month a package that included samples of Prada Candy and vintage Caron Violette Précieuse: I just put a bottle of Candy on my Christmas wishlist and would quickly do the same for vintage Violette Précieuse if it could be found easily and for cheap! It’s so beautiful! Thanks, PP! And happy Thanksgiving! :)

    • Ann says:

The Candy is nice; I only have a sample but am enjoying it. The Violette sounds divine; here’s hoping that maybe Santa will bring you some ;)

  • Mindy says:

I have never won a sample :(( but I have purchased many after reading reviews on this horribly enabling blog.

    • Ann says:

Mindy, you’re not alone. My wallet runs for cover every time I call up the Posse. But, hey, we smell great, don’t we?

  • Lisa D says:

I recently ordered The Snow Man Cometh sample set from Smell Bent after reading Tom’s review. I’d buy Pere Noel Coward in a second if it came in candle form. Hansel and Dreidel was also quite good – I’ve discovered I have a love for wheat notes – and I’m thinking about a purchase (I’m waffling, though, since I already have Lann Ael and Jeux de Peau).

Happy Thanksgiving right back at you, and to all who celebrate that day.

    • Alnysie says:

Oooh, I think I had missed that post, but now I went to read the review and check their website, and all of those sound great! Hänsel and Dreidel as the child of Lann-Ael and Like This? Can the mail work faster??
