Opus Oils Dirty Sexy Wilde

I’ve been trying to revisit some of the things I already have and have re-fallen in love with this one.  Back in Sept. of 09 I wrote it was “a super-suave combo of the galbanum and the mandarin with tobacco, with the flowers peeping up later before settling into the animal notes and the hay-like coumarin. On me it’s not so dirty, but decidedly sexy in a your-skin-but-better kind of way: as elegant as a Savile Row Suit with a bit of retro-smokiness

The notes for “Wilde” are listed as “Galbanum, Red Mandarin, Violet, Rose, Night Jasmine, Blond Tobacco, Oakmoss, Coumarin, Musk, Civet and Ambergris”.  It also has incredible lasting power; easily 24 hours and works in both heat and chill (we’re getting both right now, 80 in the day and 50 in the evening).

Best of all, it’s still only $50 for an ounce of Eau de Parfum, at their website.  I love finding something new, but in this economy it’s nice to rediscover something that’s already in the house, and if I didn’t have this one, at this price it would be a guilt-free indulgence.

So what if anything in your cupboard have you rediscovered lately?  Let us know in the comments.

My review is from the bottle I purchased.  Image from Opus Oils

KARMA by LUSH ~ $10.95 for the solid. Consider me rescued in San Francisco, I ran out of perfume (gasp!)

Thanks for this tempting review, Tom!

I’ve got some older Chanel No. 19, and I finally figured out that the ideal time to wear that kind of thing is late winter, early spring. I know, it’s actually mid-winter, but it’s been so unseasonably warm in the DC area this winter that the snowdrops are all blooming, and I’ve seen a some hellebores, cherry blossoms, and other flowering shrubs. It’s too weird and bodes no good, but might as well fiddle away with No. 19 as Rome burns. >:)

Tom is the Wilde fragrance a reasonably unisex scent?

I have recently become very sensitive to some note I am not yet able to pinpoint in men’s fragrances that I have always worn happily….

Hi, Tom! Isn’t it just great to find treasure right under your own roof? I poked around recently and am loving Givenchy Organza Indecence again and also the DK Chaos that I got from a lovely swapper from last year’s Swapmania.

A couple of PdNs that were semi-hidden in the back of a drawer: New York and Maharanih. I had purchased them waaaay back at the beginning of my perfume exploration, and while I hadn’t forgotten them, they hadn’t been in the rotation in a long time. I’ve now corrected that error! Maharanih in particular has been perfect this season: warm orange goodness.

I’ve currently rediscovered my very first Serge Lutens purchase. That would be Feminite du Bois and I did buy it unsniffed. Feminite du Bois holds a special place in my heart because 2 years ago, I heard a lot of mixed things about his perfumes. Let’s just say that it was love at first sniff.

Shalimar. I boughht a bottle back in the early 90’s and HATED it!! So much powder, no vanilla at all on me. It sat around for years (obvs) and I finally gave it another shot this past Monday. I’m hopelssly in love and have worn it all week. The powder is all calmed down and I’m getting delicious citrus, vanilla, iris…all the goodies. What a happy surprise for me!!

I rediscovered so many things this past year – I think my favorite rediscoveries were Cartier Fougueuse (yeah – more on that in a minute) and Jubilation 25.

Fougueuse: I fell in love – hord – then fell OUT of love with it for awhile and put my decant away (some oily half-note in the hay part kinda skeeved me out). Then I ended up buying a partial bottle…and one always has to spritz a bottle, right? Well, it was LOVE once again. Whatever it was that skeeved me is now gone. For good, I hope. I’m probably going to have to spring for another bottle, down the line.

Jube25. Weird. I liked it – a lot. But never really ‘got’ it. Then I got some of the body cream. And I REALLY got it It’s now in regular rotation and is a fascinating, nuanced thing, delighting me throughout the day!

    xo >-)

I recently rediscovered – and am wearing today – my decant of Boadicea the Victorious Divine. This is a lovely, lady-like scent which reminds be of Chanel No. 5 bath soap as much as anything else – light aldehydes, jasmine, sandalwood. It’s a perfect “office” scent, sophisticated, present but not pushy. I’m part of a team conducting interviews this afternoon and needed something that would make me happy while not distressing others, and this is just right.

I always sort of want to squeal when you mention Opus Oils. :) Love them. Love their perfume. Love the fabulous song and movie clips Tiger Powers posts on facebook. Last month when I was unpacking I found my Opus Oils Fetish collection tester set with just enough Spank and Sailor left to play with for a day or two. I really hope I can afford to buy more soon. Several of their scents are on my FB list.
Other than that I seem to have rediscovered my vintage Diorissimo. It is so outside of what I usually like. I had forgotten about my bottle until I picked up my copy of the book A Discovery Of Witches and noticed the Diorissimo scented bookmark I have in there.

      Ah, another DOW fan!

      • Joanna says:

Yes! Silly but I’ve been exploring scents that fit into the realm of that book for the past year. I wouldn’t have given a thought to buying vintage Diorissimo, (I’d never smelled it before. Lily of the Valley and I don’t usually get along.) but I was so drawn into the story and the scene where Diana walks into her parents bedroom and it still smells of Diorissimo. I began exploring carnation scents as well because Matthew is described as smelling of carnations, cloves and cinnamon. I think Garofano could be my HG. I can imagine Matthew smelling like Garofano.
Some time back I read that Deborah Harkness was working with a perfumer to create a collection of perfume to go along with her books. I haven’t heard anything about it since but I’m hopeful.
Really looking forward to Shadow of Night.

I do like Opus Oils- I wish they kept some more regular hours at their store.

      Vintage Diorissimo is so gorgeous!

I’ve revisited my original Black Cashmere also. I forgot how much I (and DH) love it! Also obsessed with my Idole by Lubin and L de Lolita Lempicka. What is with the sweets? Maybe it’s because of this dreary gray Michigan weather.

  • rosarita says:

After semi hoarding bottle of the original DK Black Cashmere, I’ve decided to spritz with abandon this winter. It’s such a fabulous scent. I’ve also been revisiting Barbara Bui, which is so cuddly and fluffy. It has incense but to butch it up a little, I’ve been dabbing on a sample of LV Incensi with it. Yummy. I’ve also been combing through my sample box and wearing them up.

I recently rediscovered the couple of ml I still have left of a decant of vintage Ma Griffe, which was a great fave back in the 70’s. I’m saving it for very special occasions as I think there are three applications max left. I also came across some Killian samps I’d forgotten about, but I didn’t much care for any of them. It’s very hard for me to do much beyond throwing a salad together, or, preferably, eat lox and bagel prepared by DH, read, or watch a movie when I get home from work (and I’m in the country most weekends) but my next apartment project is to go through my collection and see if I can get it a bit more organized. I’m sure I’ll uncover many forgotten treasures (and not so treasures).

    The Wilde sounds fantastic.
