Guerlain Myrrhe et Delires Review

Couple of things. First, we have had a lot of people interested in writing, and that’s so exciting.  We will be having a lot of new faces over the next few weeks.  I’ll be asked everyone that starts writing to introduce themselves first, tell a little bit about how they got here. By “here,” I mean this odd little corner of the internets where we talk about perfume and skank and pre-shower post-coital sex smell and dead gophers and crypt smell (not in a bad way) and it’s this hugely entertaining mash-up that’s not for everyone, but, hey, you’re here, so you wear the weird beautifully, friend.  They all so far have wonderful, unique voices, and they totally fit in here, so as they show up, please make them feel welcome.  I know you’ll do that, but try not to make it too weird their first time out.

We are hoping with this influx of articles to start having posts on the weekend, and if we get enough submissions, we may start stacking posts and having !gasp! more than one post a day.  I know, I sorta giggled thinking about that too.  Okay, probably not, but it was fun to think about it for a sec.

Guerlain Myrrhe et Delires is the latest installment in the Guerlain L’Art et la Matiere line. I adore this series of perfumes and could wear one of them every day for a year and be perfectly content.  It’s Guerlain Candy – really expensive plush nougat, to be sure – but absolute candy fluff butter.  Slightly sweet and vanillic, it doesn’t have any “hard” notes to wrap your mind around and learn to love while you’re being deeply disturbed.  It goes on silky smooth and luxurious, no surprises, snags or rough spots. I have this beautiful silk charmeuse caftan I wear around the house every now and then when I want to feel pretty and ohsoposh. It’s ’70s style with a lace-up tie n the front.  When that thing goes over my head and slides down my body, it is the Art et la Matiere line of perfumes enveloping me in their fluffy cloud.

Myrrhe et Delires doesn’t disappoint me by being so easy to love, it has this lovely open that nibbles just a little bit before I splash down in those plump Guerlain vanilla pillows and bury my head in that satiny base that vaguely whispers myrrh into my ear.  And I don’t care if it might give me a toothache if I wear it too long because it doesn’t make me think or disturb my enjoyment.  And really?  I smell so good.  Notes of Grapefruit, Black Pepper, Pink Pepper, Pear, Myrrh, Iris, Rose, Incense, Licorice, Patchouli.  Not that you should care about that list because it’s just Plush Plump Perfume.

Next week I’ll return to my Frederic Malle revisit, provided my attention span lasts that long, but it’s more likely we’ll detour to Mandy Aftel’s Ghost Town Sepia, which I’m trying to ignore on my other hand – you know, that disturbing and bothering me scent that’s keeping me from curling up and falling asleep in the arms of Thierry Wasser’s liquid velvet, Myrrhe et Delires.

It has been forever since we did a giveaway.  Yes, I know I have those ones from last week, but I’m still working those out in my head, and then I’ll let a sample set go.  Let’s do a draw for three samples of this PlumpPlushPerfume from comments.  What perfume do you love to cuddle up in that doesn’t make you think, or is there a line that does that for you?  Or do you avoid them entirely?

  • Homura-chan says:

I don’t know if it’s too late for the draw but regardless I can’t wait to try this one! My fave cuddle up scents are also Guerlain Materieres, Cuir Beluga, SDV, and the Charnel, Gourmand Coquin.

  • Sujaan says:

My all around easy to wear comfort scent is Safran Troublant. It’s so pretty. And it’s mostly just so easy, just like your caftan. Easy, beautiful, effortless.
    Thanks for the draw!

  • Diana says:

Traversee du bosphore perfume has my vote. Soft, cuddly, sweet. Please enter me in the sample lotto too.

  • Rena says:

Lollia Relax is my nobrainer scent–it always smells good on me and it’s what I reach for when nothing else smells quite right

  • Natalie says:

Vanilla is popular as a comfort scent is seems! I have several comfort scents, it depends on the mood I’m in. I REALLY like the SSS Champagne the bois, I often put it on after dinner to have something nice to sniff (and to keep me away from the cookie-tin, it works!). Joop le Bain is als an old friend, but I never see anyone who knows this one. Then again; it is very mainstream AND cheap. I love it however.

  • Natalie says:

This winter I’ve been snuggling up with Prada Candy, mainly the body lotion. Sure the perfume is a comfort scent, but putting the lotion on before bed is yummy and relaxing, more so than wearing the perfume.

And I’d love to try the Guerlain Myrrh et Delires, please enter me in!

  • CharlieChuckles says:

My favorite cuddly, no thinking required scents are Shalimar Eau Legere and Tocade. Myrrh et Delires sounds wonderful and right up my alley!

  • rosiegreen says:

My favorite cuddle scent is Barbara Bui, sweet, light and creamy. I would love to try the new Guerlain. Love myrrh in all its forms.

  • Sapphire says:

Have to agree with all the vanilla lovers. My favorite cuddlers so far have been Angelique Noire and Oriental Brulant, but the new addition was VC&A Orchidee Vanille. Re-tried it recently and may just have to go for a FB some day. Would love to try Myrrhe et Delires!

  • Holly F. says:

Guerlain Candy- mmmm, my favorite sweet thing! Yesterday my comfort scent was layered, Barbara Bui and MH Couer d’Ete. It was soft and comforting and suited my mood. Thanks so much for the draw!

  • Irina says:

    L’artisan’s Havana Vanille
I’d love to sample this one- it’s getting warmer and I need something softer to wisper “sleep well”
    thanks for the draw

  • Kacey says:

My favorite cuddle-up scents are vanillas, and my current fave is the uncomplicated and beautifully balanced Creed Sublime Vanille. It’s no brain bender, but dangit if I don’t smell good! I’m sure my boyfriend agrees – especially when he doesn’t have to wonder why I smell like books or salt, ha! Myrrhe et Delires looks like it would be right up my alley, and doubly exciting as I’ve never tried a myrrh fragrance nor anything from this line. Thanks for the opportunity for samples!

  • Stacey says:

That would be Cuir Beluga for me! It’s so amazing that when I smell it, I just want to melt into it and lie around.

  • Patricia Hall Borow says:

So what the heck is this connection-by-default via Facebook, huh? Please tell me there’s another way…not the Evil Empire….(sobbing sound) — Olfacta.

Oh, vanilla and/or heliotrope are cuddly for me.

  • mim says:

I love cuddly scents! Vanillas, ambers, musks, heliotrope, all delicious and soft….I really like L’Ombre Fauve lately, and also Guerlain Bois D’Armenie, Lann-Ael, Ecco Bella Vanilla lotion, POTL, Etro Heliotrope, L’artisan Safran Troublant (doesn’t trouble me at all!). Yay for spray decants–somehow the scent feels more enveloping and airy when I spray.
I have some samples of different ambers which I also dab and love.

  • Perfumista8 says:

By Kilian’s Cruel Intentions is often my go to scent when I want something that just smells beautiful and serene.

  • Julie says:

I love cuddly perfumes, and have lots of vanilla scents for that. Considering a bottle of Lann-Ael, which is very comforting – if only there was more breadiness and less apple I would have it for sure! Would love to try this one. Thanks for the draw!

  • afaris says:

lots of opportunities for perfume cuddles here in uk. 🙁
my fav is bk back to black. if i had a fb (soon, i keep telling myself) it’d be rahat loukum.

  • Jayne says:

I’ll second the YSL Cinema and Coco as mindless cuddlesome scents. I hate and loathe and detest ironing clothes, but a few drops of Cinema in the ironing spray makes everything alright.

  • Tourbillion says:

I would say that for completely mindless cuddling there is Donna Karan. I would use others for thought provoking cuddling though!

  • maggiecat says:

Vanilla-y scents are go-tos for relaxation for me, as are light musk scents. Body Shop’s White Musk and White Musk Libertine, Bourbon French Perfume’s Musk, Diptyque’s Eau Duelle – all are lovely, don’t have to think, just wanna smell good scents that keep me alive and perky at the end of a long day (like this one!).

  • June-bug says:

I just love Winter White by Dawn Spencer Hurwitz for a cuddle scent. Always makes me feel good when I wear it. Just today I am trying a sample of Loukhoum by Keiko Mecheri and it’s definitely a winner for that category in my book! Where’s my pillow; time for nap.

  • What a question? There are so many.Ultimately I go-to Shalimar. Having said that I love to curl up in Aromatics Elixir, Fancy Nights (I know, but i LOVE it), Auburn, Le Male, Fantasia de Fleurs and Tabac original. Depending on mood, time of year, week or day this can change. Especially if something glorious has just arrived in the mail.

  • ElizabethC says:

Angelique Noire, Shalimar and the Chanel No 5 Body Cream are all warm and cuddly scents! I love myrrhe (have the Serge Lutens bell jar) and would be really interested in trying a different take on it!

  • pam says:

My cuddle scent is YSL Cinema. For some reason, I find it calming. Would love to try the Guerlain, as G is my favorite house.

  • janice van diver says:

Ok, now I will have to try this for sure, thanks for a chance on a sample. I like to do a heavy dose of Tauer Un Rose Vermeille, then I try to stay awake long enough to savor its ever changing nuances.

  • FragrantWitch says:

We’ve needed cuddle scents here in the UK over the last several days as we have had chilly weather complete with heavy rain and hailstorms! It was lovely sleeping weather, if that makes sense, because there is nothing like snuggling in bed with a good book while rain hammers against the windows. Comfort scents for me are Chaos – I always reach for it when I am feeling ‘blah’- and Costume National 21 with its fuzzy ambered leather. If I want to indulge a melancholy mood, then I go for L’Heure Bleu or Avignon.
Please enter me in the draw! Thanks.

  • LindaB says:

Depends on the time of year….Hypnotic Poison in Fall/Winter and Songes in the Spring/Summer.

  • Kimberly says:

Rose Musc. It is reliably pretty, plush, a little sweet and comfortingly linear!

  • Tatiana says:

My cuddle up scents are L de Lolita Lempicka, TF Tobacco Vanille and Portrait of a Lady.

  • fleurdelys says:

Perfumes with an almond or heliotrope note spell “cuddly” and “comfort” to me. L’Heure Bleue, although many describe it as melancholy, is a curl-up-by-the-fire-with-book-and-cashmere-throw fragrance. Farnesiana is another.

  • Teri says:

Nothing comforts me more than the original Max Mara scent. It makes me feel like I’m eating high end caramels while wearing one of those lovely old mink coats with the thick satin linings.

  • Carly McKay says:

Mine is also from Guerlain and it’s Goumand Coquin…Mmmmmm;-)) The Moscow one is super cuddly too!

Not that I need to spend another 250 on a bottle from Guerlain but please enter me!!!

  • Maureen says:

Oh, my cuddle up scent is Coco. Yum. I’d love to try Myrrh et Delires…bet I’ll love it.

  • AnnieA says:

For me it is TF Tuscan Leather for the kindly smoking dad…

  • Susan says:

Gourmands are definitely cuddly perfumes for me. Things like YSL Cinema and Queen Latifah Queen (yeah, I said it).

  • dremybluz says:

My fuzzy is Jo Malone’s Intense Rose and Vanilla.

  • Cristine says:

For me, Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille is very comforting. It’s like a hug from Fred MacMurray. Not Double Indemnity Fred– My Three Sons Fred, with the pipe and the cardigan sweater. The ultimate dad. Plus, the stuff smells great, not a jagged edge or sharp corner in sight. It’s also what I imagine M, James Bond’s boss from the books, would smell like: deep thought, brandy, men’s club and pipe tobacco.

    • FragrantWitch says:

Ok, now I really must sniff Tobacco Vanille! Your description of it being how M would smell is fab. I want to age like Judi Dench- she just looks better and better it seems . I wonder what scent she (and Helen Mirren) would choose?

  • Musette says:

I was with you until you said ‘nougat’. But I like the idea of a plush, posh pillow of scent – hmmmm….I would say Amouage Jublilation 25 (especially when I go the way of shower gel and body creme) and Liz Zorn’s Centennial, both of which share that ‘skin scent’ base that hovers right on the edge of weird for me but once I settle into it…yum!

    xoxo

  • Marie says:

Hmm… my fav cuddle up scent in the cooler weather is Bvlgari Omnia, but it’s too much for warmer weather, as I discovered last week. So for spring/summer, I’d have to go with West Side, but just a tiny spritz – too much, and it’s a nose-burner. Would love to try the Guerlain – even if I don’t win the draw, I’m putting it on the “to try” list for when I’m at the Guerlain boutique in Epcot this November.

  • Ann says:

Mmmm … Patty, you are so right — this new Guerlain is dee-lish! I might need more than just my little sample soon. My favorite cuddle-up scents are Costes 2 (with MFK Pour le Soir as a close runner-up) and Parfumerie Generale’s Indochine.

  • Laura Conrad says:

    Caldey Island Lavender.

  • Cheryl says:

That would be SL Nuit de Cellophane!

  • TJ says:

One of my favorite scents to curl up in a ball with is, shockingly, Kenzo Air. It triggers some kind of happy scent memory for me. Somehow it reminds me of being at my babci’s when I was little. My runner up scent is Avignon. That’s meditation in a bottle for me.

  • Joanna says:

Probably Safran Troublant. I’ve noticed I wear it a lot when I’m anxious and when I pull on my favorite sweater and have that moment where I’m wrapped in the lingering scent of SF from past wear instantly relaxes me.

  • Lisa D says:

I had to go run to the fume closet, to do a quick review, because I couldn’t easily name a scent that doesn’t make me think or react in some way. There are a lot of perfumes that I could describe as “comfort” scents, but there aren’t any that I lose awareness of, or that just melt into my background. That’s one of the things I love about perfume – when I wear it, it creates a series of these moments of small surprise, the briefest spaces in which I notice the smell of something beautiful. That’s right. I’ve got perfume dementia.

  • I love M et D, too; I didn’t think of it as a comfort scent, but I certainly see what you’re saying.

  • violetnoir says:

I loves me some Angelique Noire from this same Guerlain line, and would love a sample of this new one.

    Thank you, Patty!

    Hugs!

  • Gwyneth says:

My favorite cuddle-up scent lately is Divin Enfant by Etat Libre d’Orange. On my skin, Divin Enfant is a beautifully soft orange blossom, swathed in clouds of marshmallow, some soft sueded leather and a bit of warm, unsmoked tobacco. It doesn’t “sound” like it should work, but the effect, to my nose, is baby-powderish with a twist that is soothing.
I think the effect of Divin Enfant is like wearing snuggly furry slippers with a sexy silk teddy….Ooh La La!
p.s. —- I’d love to try a sample of Myrrhe et Delires. 🙂

  • cheesegan says:

My favorite cuddle-up scent in Dzing!, I find it deeply comforting.

  • Ninara Poll says:

Vanilla Fields. Yes, that drugstore staple that keeps getting weaker and waner by the year… there’s just something about it that calms me and lets me zone out. Sometimes Paloma Picasso Mon Parfum does the same thing, and a good lavender essential oil’ll do the same.

  • c. walker says:

There is a perfume and don’t even know the name i got it as gift years ago but it smells great. the bottle is worn out and the top is missing and as much as i love it i use it sparingly. whenever i’m just sad and want a distraction i spray it on my wrist and go to sleep.
