Cher Uninhibited LIVE Video Sniff

Hey Hey Perfume Posse Peeps,

It’s an honour to be back on Perfume Posse, Portia from AustralianPerfumeJunkies here to guide you through the joyful madness that is my life in fragrance, I think I have a treat for you today.

A while ago I got my hands on a very special vintage coffret of Uninhibited by Cher. My friend David/Margeaux (who just happens to be Cher’s greatest ever fan, followed her tour around the world, has met, has autographs and photos with her) and I decided to do a video presentation of it, I hope you enjoy watching as much as we enjoyed making it for you.

The Cher Uninhibited fragrance was lovely but I think the Body Lotion had turned due to air, or plastic bottle, exposure because it smelled like plastic after 20 min’s and was IMPOSSIBLE to get off my skin, 2 hot loofah showers later still there.

If you liked this please skip back to AustralianPerfumeJunkies and see what we are doing over there. It’s always nice to have new visitors.

While you’re here though, there’s a lot of Celebuscent trashing and in many cases justly deserved, but which ones would you wear? I have a few, Gwen Stefani L, Queen Latifah Queen, Jessica Simpson Fancy Nights, SJP Lovely & Covet, Madonna Truth or Dare, Halle Berry Halle, and all of them get worn pretty regularly Fancy Nights the most because it’s a dirty bitch version of Shalimar that lasts FOREVER on my skin.

I do so love your videos Portia. And as someone who adores Shalimar I simply must try the ‘dirty bitch’ version! SJP’s Lovely is truth in advertising at work and Deneuve well, we all know that it is amazing. And Isabella Rosselini’s Manifesto smelled pretty good if I recall as well as Jacyln Smith’s California from yonks ago. Just sniffed the Dita von Teese and thought ‘meh’. Bummer, as I thought she could come out with a good ‘un!

Oh and you and Musette need to do a tandem sniffa video- that would be AWESOME.

    • OMG!! FragrantWitch, that is an awesome idea. Can you magic us together please? I would love to do a tandem sniffathon with Patty.
I wish I had bothered with Jaclyn Smith’s California, she was always my favourite Charlie’s Angel.

  • Hey Mrs.Honey,
I am too scared to try the Britney’s. They were the world’s best sellers for a while so I’m sure I’ve vicariously sniffed them.
Maybe I’ll roll up my sleeves and give them a whirl.
    Portia xx

  • Mrs.Honey says:

Wow! What a review. I have a vintage sample of Uninhibited and thought it was good, but did not love it.

I might wear a scent by Elizabeth Taylor but am more likely to buy (at DEEP discount), Midnight Fantasy. I liked Boyfriend well enough and thought Jennifer Anniston was not too bad. If I loved tuberose, Truth or Dare would be mine, but I have a love/hate relationship with tuberose

  • Barbara says:

Great vid, will have to check out more. I love Halle Berry Halle, but thought my amateur perfumista card would be revoked if I admitted it, so thanks for that! If you like Halle I bet you would enjoy Boyfriend.
A few years ago my daughter liked Hilary Duff, so I bought her With Love by Hilary Duff. It smelled great, but triggered my migraines.

    • I’m glad you like the Halle. The blurbs say she spent a year getting it right with her perfumers.. It smells good enough to me that I believe it.
I’ve not tried the Hillary Duff stuff, migraines you say? I’ll pass,

Thank you so much for sharing this video. I enjoyed having my morning coffee with you both! HUGS!

  • nozknoz says:

Great vid and I love that you included the original ad at the end – I love what she said (approximately), “I couldn’t fit in so I had to expand.” Words to live by!

  • Ann says:

What a treat this morning to find your video on the Posse! Loved it! I’m old enough to remember when Uninhibited came out, and I remember liking it, but for some reason never bought any. As for other celeb scents, Lovely is nice, as is Boyfriend, and also that old Isabella Rossellini one, Manifesto, I think? Anyway, hope to see more videos from you …

    • Hey Ann,
Thank you! There will be more.
I have heard about Isabella Rossellini’s fragrance. I am SOOO jealous that you got to smell it,
      Lucky you,
      Portia xx

  • You are so welcome. Cher is a wonderful ambassador for being yourself. I feel that this is the best essence of feminism, personism, what you may call it, so simple and so hard, Be Yourself.
We all thought Jessica Simpson was a complete fool. She is smart enough to surround herself with good people though, and that shows cleverness. Her product lines are way and above my expectations. It’s a good surprise for me,
    Portia xx

  • Lily says:

I really liked your video – also, that Cher commercial is so refreshing compared to contemporary celeb perfume ads. So genuine! Thanks for this.

Also Fancy Nights is great – in celeb-brand shoes and perfume Jessica Simpson breaks the mold.

  • Poodle says:

Love your posts! I’m going to have to try this next time I see it. I do like Gwen Stefani L, and Queen is nice too. I am looking forward to trying something described as dirty bitch Shalimar.

    • Thank you!
Queen Latifah is GOOOD, always makes me smile when I apply. “When you’re good to MAAAAAMMMMMAAAAA…..”
Please come and tell me if you loved Fancy Nights.

  • Musette says:

    Darling,

If I fall in love with JSFN and end up wearing it all over the place I will have to come to Australia and beat you silly! I will be soooo embarrassed (snobola that I yam)……but you know I have to try it. Dirty bitch? Ho yus!!!

This is a great video! I go on APJ and sneak peeks at your others and they are wonderful. Looking forward to seeing more of them on here!!!

    xoxoxo

    • Musette,
I can’t wait for you to come to Australia!! I think we are twins separated at birth. I am a little scared for the world if we reunite though, He He He,
We are in the middle of creating our next batch of videos, so much more coming soon.

  • Dionne says:

Three celebuscents I really like (although I’ve already told you this, Portia :)) are Kate Walsh’s boyfriend, Queen by Queen Latifah and Elizabeth Taylor’s Black Pearls. It appears I prefer my celebrities assertive and dark – OK, Black Pearls isn’t dark, but it’s got serious va-va-va-voom presence.

    • I’ve not tried Black Pearls but a lady near me the other night resprotzed and I smelled it but couldn’t place the Frag. White Diamonds! She smelled lovely and it suited her perfectly.
Liz Taylor was one of my favourites since I can remember,
      Portia xx

  • Lisa D says:

I’ve not tried too many celebrity scents, though I recall thinking that SJP’s Lovely was really quite nice, and I recently received a sample of Kate Walsh’s Boyfriend that I thought was surprisingly good. Uninhibited, I’ve never had the good fortune to sniff. Thanks for the post, Portia!

    • OMG! You’re thanking me? You just left me a message that proves you’ve read my post, and you’re thanking me. No Way Lisa D, THANK YOU. I am so glad you came along and said Hi.
Everyone is talking about Boyfriend. I’ll get to it, don’t worry/
      SJP’s Lovely is exactly that.
      Have a great day,
      Portia xx

  • WOW!! Debbie Gibson did a fragrance? I am so jealous that you got to own it, even for a moment. She was a hero that we would roller skate and ice skate to.
You have reached the pinnacle of Celebuscent, Deneuve extrait. You don’t need to try any others.
Thank you for dropping by and commenting,
    Portia xx

  • Eldarwen22 says:

I remember being 7 years old in 1989 when Debbie Gibson released her perfume called Electric Youth and saving up my allowance to buy a bottle of it. For about 3 or 4 years, it seemed to be one of my prized possesions at the time. Then my mother threw it out because she thought that it really stank to high heaven. I’ve never really ventured into the whole celebrity perfume deal. It’s the whole concept of a lot of celebrities want to make a quick buck. I will say that I have two large decants of Deneuve in extract form and love it to death. I will have to try the EDT.

  • Gwyneth says:

Loved the video, loved the comments!
Thanks so much for sharing. I adore your posts, Portia, because obviously you love perfume the way a True Perfumista should and I love your expressive way of writing/speaking. It just makes me happy, ya know! You have an exhuberant ‘Joie de vivre’ which is evident. Love it.

I wish I could stumble upon a bitty coffret of Cher’s Unhibited…..I’ll keep looking.

As far as ‘celebuscents’ so, I rather like Gwen Stefani’s L (L.A.M.B.), Brittany Spears’ Fantasy, and Jessica Simpson’s Fancy series.
I think Boyfriend by Kate Walsh is extremely well-crafted and I wear it often.

If it smells good and if it wears well……it is a winner in my book.
Keep writing great reviews. I keep reading. Deal?

    Cheers!

  • Hiya Mals86,
Just go to your local drug store and have a whiff, really. Shalimar is a just bathed, teen aged, virgin, Nun by comparison. Go on, just for fun. It’s free! Come back and tell me how you went. If nothing else you’ll have a story to tell the girls.
    Portia xx

    • Mals86 says:

You know, I really haven’t laid a nostril on actual Shalimar EdT for about four years. I did have a small vintage bottle of PdT for awhile, and I probably last smelled it about eight months ago, before passing it on to someone else… but it was quite dirty enough for me. (Love Shalimar Light, though. She might be the chaste teenager of the bunch.)

It’s funny how different stuff strikes different people as skanky. Joy is completely and utterly unwearable for me (I call it “Ho Panties”), but Amaranthigh is squeaky clean and I wear it to church. And Citizen Queen is raunchy but I love it.

      • I have a couple of vintage bottles of Joy, Ho Panties is a great expression for it. He He He. I love it even more now. Going to bathe in it tomorrow.
        Portia xx

  • David/Margeaux says:

I loved shooting this video with Portia, who was sweet enough to leave me the coffret after the shoot so I occasionally will sneak some Cher scent onto me when I need a lift! Loved it on the first whiff, love it still now 🙂

  • Mals86 says:

Dirty bitch version of Shalimar!! Hilarious. (Shalimar is enough of a dirty bitch for me, to be honest.)

  • Sam says:

Cher through the ages! I love it. I’m old enough to remember when this came out: I was in college, and Cher was somehow managing to stay “Cher” on the concert circuit while developing a rather legitimate acting career. She was quite a force! Never smelled the perfume, tho–seems like I should have. Thanks for the great video, by the way.

    • Hey Sam,
She was and still is amazing to me. Our whole family used to watch the Sonny & Cher show every week. We would laugh and laugh.
If you ever come across a small bottle at a reasonable price, grab it!

For many years, I regularly spotted bottles of Cher Uninhibited in antique or junk shops. I never bought one, believing that it had to be awful. Boy, was I wrong. Several months ago, I finally plunked down $8.00 for a 3ml of what I believe was the perfume, un-sniffed (antique store staff frown at customers opening the scents—can’t say I blame them), ran to the car, opened it, and . . . WOW. That is one great perfume.

As for other celeb scents, I’m not against them, it’s just that so many that I sniff remind me of other perfumes that I already have. Some are beautifully constructed and there are a few I’d wear if someone gifted me a bottle, but so far I have not found one distinctive enough (and the one I did, Boyfriend, was pretty stinky) to justify buying one myself.
