Best Perfumes for Fall 2012

“Well, the frost is on the pumpkin and the hay is in the barn..” That means it’s time to talk about the Best Perfumes for Fall 2012!

It’s that time of year where the leaves are turning (at least for us Northern Hem folks – Portia, Down Under,  will have to fake it! 😀 ).   As I type this it’s a chilly 38F – a bit early for those nipply temps – and we’re scheduled for an uptick in the weather – but it’s funny how even a short burst of colder weather sparks that urge to start battening down the hatches and migrate inward.  Suddenly, hot cinnamon rolls and coffee sound like a grand idea!  (Resist, Anita!  RESIST!)…and the cooler, shortening days make getting up at 5:30a…well, let’s just say that snuggly duvet feels mighty good!

As the season turns, so do most of our perfume choices.  So, without further ado, here are the Posse’s choices for Best Perfumes for Fall:

Best Perfumes for Fall

Tom sez his Best Perfumes for Fall is :

Opus Oils M’Eau Joe No. 3: it their “Hollywood Whisky Fragrance” and it smoky, warm, with and almost “chewy”, and now that it’s actually cool enough I can really give myself a good healthy spritz.
The Fabulous Portia (who is going to teach me (and me – Patty) how to wear EYELASHES!)
Here are 3 Best Perfumes for Fall for you. I’ve given you Cheap. Middle and R.U.F.Joking?
Halle by Halle Berry: Such a great value Oriental that opens fresh green citrus, then goes through flowers, ends up spice and wood. I get some chocolate too but it’s just me. Lasts for hours and has well priced body lotion that I adore and use regularly alone or to layer.
Oud Ispahan by DIOR: Delicate, spicy, vintage Ispahan rose and Oudh done so elegantly and melded seamlessly into a magic potion for those cooling days of autumn. Lovely sillage and soft but insistent scent bubble that will bring the boys to the yard to taste your milkshakes.
Bottega Veneta Parfum: In the R U F Joking range Bottega Veneta Parfum in the Baccarat bottle is a soft super luxury leather and not-sweet-fruit fragrance that only you and your closest intimates will know you are wearing. Selfish perfumery that lasts for hours and hours and huffs up your top and surprises you till you go to bed. The people that are lucky enough to get this close will be glad they did.

March picks her best perfumes for fall: This is the time of year I switch to my old favorites — like Worth Courtesan, which Luca Turin dissed pretty hard and I don’t care.  I bought it in Edinburgh and it reminds me of chilly air, hilly streets, and gorgeous young men in kilts.  Really, what more does one need?  Also I’ve been wearing the heck out of my Fendi Asja, the sadly discontinued (?) scent which is both office-appropriate and reminds me of apple cider and warm, dusty radiators, and I mean that as a total compliment.  Speaking of which, since I’m a shameless scent slut, if anyone has a bottle of Asja at home, unloved and unwanted, I’d love to buy it.

Miss Ann’s Picks for Best perfumes for Fall:
Byredo Gypsy Water — As in the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, this one is just right.
Just the right mix of lemon, bergamot, pine, incense and vanilla, all keeping each other in the perfect balance, and light enough not to be offensive. It’s cuddly-comforting without being too sweet or cloying; it strikes me as one of those

scents that fall into the “your skin but better” category. I only wish it wore a little longer — this would be great supplemented by its matching body lotion or cream, if and when I’m ever back in the dough.
Faberge Imperial — Here is a rediscovered gem: a love of mine from some 16 years ago, which I’ll be posting about in
the very near future. This gorgeous floral, smooth as silk with its whisper of carnation, smells like just the thing
for dressing up and going out to dinner during the cool evenings of autumn.
Amouage Interlude Woman — This elusive chameleon, with its underpinning of incense shot through with bursts
of kiwi, marigold and lots more, has been amazing in the summer heat,
so I can hardly wait to see what tricks it has up its sleeve in the chill of fall. My prediction: Simply magical!
Musette’s Best Perfumes for Fall:
I was going to bore you guy to flinders with my regular Autumn rotation but I (and you, dear Posse) have lucked out!  because the weather has been glorious so I can wear different scents!!!  After a freakishly hot Summer we plunged into  insanely cold temps (38F?  Wth?) – but now it’s back to a picture-perfect Autumn, just like that photo up there.  Warm enough, still, for bare legs most daytimes…but carry a sweater, just in case.  Snuggling under the duvet at night.  A pinch of cinnamon on my morning toast.  And…ambers.  I recovered from the terror of the Nazgul and found some Big Love for ambers.   Mona di Orio’s Les Nombres d’Or Ambre is heading the list.  Amazing notes:  Atlas cedar, ylang-ylang, benzoin, Tolu balm, amber and vanilla.  I’ve been rolling around in this for the past week or so and it just keeps getting better!   It’s also the perfect weather for ambergris – wearing Profumi di Firenzi  Ambra Grisea is the olfactory equivalent of a hillside walk along the Brittany coast in Autumn.    Of course, there is the vaunted, perfect  Amouage Epic, from head to toe.  It’s a very comforting and grounding scent for me and makes me feel cozy and safe, like I’m in my favorite cashmere jacket.   Guerlain Encens Mythique d’Orient.   My New Love.  Jasmine, roses, incense.   It’s a fabbo-weird combination of bright/sparkling and warm/spicy, with that Guerlain refinement that is always welcome – at least in my perfume collection.  I  see myself wearing this all Autumn long.
Don’t faint.  But I’m NOT wearing leathers right now.  It’s harvest season and I can barely blink without sneezing.  Every single one of my leathers is like a rasp to my eyesockets.  Can you believe it?  Cuir de Russie parfum?  ZAP!  Vintage Diorling?  BAM!  Cuir Ottoman?  POW!  I guess I’ll just have to wait until December – and wear them at bedtime.
Patty’s best Perfumes for Fall –

fall perfume

I’m gonna hafta shut my damn windows this week!  I’m not happy.  Waking up cold and snuggling into blankets with the doggies in the morning until the temps start creeping up to 80 has been so wonderful – the fall is everything I want in weather.  I don’t want to shut my windows, and I really do not want to see a freaking
snowflake
in the week’s weather forecast.
.And if you look at this week’s weather forecast for Denver, there is a snowflake
On Saturday
October 6.
I just wanted to point that horrific bit of craptivity out.
But nevertheless, I dig into my perfume closet and pull out  my favorite fall perfumes that do not like snow in early October either – Amouage Lyric Woman for a not too uncurrent scent I love to wear every fall since it came out.  Caron Nuit de Noel and Caron Parfum Sacre are two of my best older’ish perfumes for fall for probably the last 5+ years – they just are everything fall is about – woody, warm, and you can pick up the EDT or EDP versions of both of them for less than a quarter of a tank of gas.   For the best perfume for Fall 2012 of new releases, I’m still waiting for it, but I’m predicting it will be one of the Kilian In the Garden of Good and Evil thingies. I could be wrong!  And L’Artisan Seville a l’Aube is in a serious rotation still and always, I’m having a major Orange Blossom fixation in 2012!

Favorite cool weather scents (my favorite time of year of course): Serge Lutens Fille En Aiguilles or 5 O’Clock au Gingembre, Annick Goutal Ambre Fetiche, Perles De Lalique, By Kilian Straight To Heaven. Thanks for the chance, can’t wait to check out some of the above mentioned scents too!!! xx

  • Susan says:

looooove Nuit de Noel. But I think of it more as a winter perfume! 🙂
I think Une Rose Chypree is a GREAT fall perfume. Anything with bay reads to me as fall, including Jo Malone’s new Blackberry and Bay.

  • Cindi says:

What delightful choices of Fall fragrances and I plan on trying a couple!
I also enjoy Tresor, for anytime of the year…
    Many thanks, Cindi

  • Lemon says:

whew, I’m glad the deadline is noonish mountain time and not EDT. Well, this fall I haven’t been wearing my usual incenses, like Avignon and Encens Flamboyant. Fall is usually the heart of my incense-wafting period. This year there haven’t been many crisp days, more like damp and drippy and chilly. I find myself reaching for Frapin 1270, Cadjmere, and especially my tiny decant of Parfum Sacre which will be empty soon if we don’t get any crisp days.

  • Elizabeth says:

I work in a children’s library. In the fall I do a lot of “read-alouds” with books about apples, falling autumn leaves, and pumpkins. Sometimes I wear a combination of Brandy and Burning Leaves from CB I Hate Perfume. The children say they can smell the apples and the leaves! And I get to feel like I am out walking in an orchard!

  • sherobin says:

Because fall is main season for perfume, there is always the fun of exploring new releases while dragging out your scarves and cashmeres and such. I also reserve trying out vintage perfumes for fall – very exciting. Of course, I do have a slew of fall faves…Chanel Sycomore, AG Encens Flamboyant, Bois des Isles, Tea for Two, Field Notes from Paris, to name a few. Lovely post! And thanks for the draw!!!!!

  • Dana says:

Organza Indecense, Cuir de Lancome, L’Occitane Amber and I’Pairie (? sp), and various musk oils that I wouldn’t dream of wearing when it is warm.

  • rosieA says:

What a great post! OJ Tolu, Woman and Ta’if are all back in rotation. As are DK Gold, Habanita, and Bottega Veneta (which has never been out of rotation!). Thank you for the draw!

  • EileenS says:

Fall makes me want smoky and rosy scents. Don’t know why.. The ones I tend to enjoy are rich and just too much in the summer, such as Miller Harris Fueilles de Tabac, Andy Tauer’s Incense Rose and Keiko Mecheri Oliban. Two new scents for me — Frederic Malle’s Portrait of a Lady and Miller Harris Rose en Noir — are fitting in well with fall.

I’m now planning to sample a few of the suggestions here, like Oud Ispahan by DIOR , Caron Nuit de Noel and Parfum Sacre — Jeepers! When will I stop buying fragrances! 🙂

  • Julie Ellen says:

Great picks for fall–even though it felt like winter this morning!! I wear my Andy Tauer Incense Extreme all year long, but it feels especially right when there is a nip in air. I also start to trot out my dark rose collection–chief among them Malle’s Une Rose and Amouage Lyric Woman.

  • I really love chypres for fall. Both the old fashioned, mossy variety or more modern ones such as Andy Tauers Un Rose Chypree. L’Artisan Dzing! is another favourite, and, as several other commenters already have mentioned, Tea for Two.

  • Dionne says:

Where I live winter is a full 6 months long, so many of the fall perfumes everyone listed I keep for my winter stash when I need their comfort: Coromandel, Parfum Sacre, Ambre Fétiche, Black Cashmere, Winter Woods et al.

For fall I find myself craving things that evoke the wonderful golden sunshine and the golden leaves that are a part of fall: Jour Ensolleilé and Golden Cattleya are right up at the top. And for some odd reason, the lemmings are going full bore after a relatively quiet summer. Just sampled some Like This, as well as the Olfactive Studio line, and I’ve got four loud lemmings clamoring for attention.

  • Harlan says:

Les Nombres d’Or Vetyver by Mona d’Orio is hitting the spot these days, as well as the indie classic Cepes and Tuberose by Aftelier. Soon, it will be cold enough to bring out the beast- Ajmal AA Ghazelle… but not quite yet. Thanks for the draw!

  • LaShawne Moore says:

Thanks, so much for the cooky reviews ( which I love) on the vanilla perfumes, I have jotted down the most interesting ones and look forward to smelling them all. I already own Jo Malone & Tom Ford but Im looking for something more intense, hopefully I’ll find it with your help.

  • Lily says:

Odds of winning, not good! But I like top ten lists.

For fall, Like This. Also SDV. Also Borneo. Also Pure Oud.

  • OhLily says:

    Thanks for the giveaway, Musette!

Uh oh, I guess I should be careful about tempting the snowflake gods too soon! I’ve already pulled out the vintage Rive Gauche extrait, Dk Gold edp, and my Kelly Caleche edp that I wear (mostly)year round. Really looking forward to wearing Theorema, Ta’if, SM Rose Absolute, and my vintage Je Reviens, Shalimar, and Magie Noir extraits.

  • Tina Barker says:

My choices may not be as sophisticated as some but DKNY Be Delicious and Marc Jacobs Daisy remind me of fall!

  • ElizabethC says:

Another one with the Coromandel love. Still just a little too warm out, but when it hits coat and scarf weather it is just perfect. The scent feels like a cashmere sweater or scarf. Fall always starts me coat hunting, right now I am looking for a bright yellow or lapis blue peacoat. It gets sooo gray and dreary in Seattle during the winter, a bright pop of color is essential (especially when combined with my orange scarf and purse)!
    Thank you for the drawing!

  • Woodgirl says:

It’s still really hot/humid here (Florida), but I can hardly wait for cooler weather so I can pull out Cuir de Lancome, Cuir Ottoman, Tolu, SSS Winter Woods and Sienna Musk, pretty much all of my fragrance wardrobe.

  • Cristiano says:

Oh how I love these draws and special articles about seasons and perfumes! In my case I deeply love Fille en aiguilles since it combines many of the things I expect from this dying time. Incense, pine and cookies is just what I hanker after when leaves fall. I also like the fact that I start using my amber based scents which throughout summer are in the back of my drawer. Especially Ambre Precieux and (I agree with JIrish on this) a few Tauer… I go generally for L’air du desert marocain.
Thanks a lot for the draw and thanks for your site, I love it!

  • RVB says:

Andy Tauer’s L’air du Desert Marocain(although it’s a year round favorite!) and Incense Rose-Histories de Parfums 1740-Eau d’Italie Paestum Rose and Sienne l’Hiver-Le Labo Rose 31-Frederic Malle Une Rose…Thanks for the draw!

  • dremybluz says:

It is still in the high 80’s here in Dallas, but hopefully come November I can get out
Luten’s Miel de Bois and MKK.

  • Tatiana says:

Mmm, fall! I love autumn and we didn’t even have a really hot summer, until the beginning of this past week where it got into the high 90s. I love Armani Sensi even though it got bashed in Turin’s book. I love Bottega Veneta in the EdP. I wasn’t even aware it was available in Parfum until Portia pointed it out. I can live without the Murano glass bottle. On the BV website there is a cute travel bottle with a woven strap. That I want! Other fall favorites are Mitsouko, Cuir de Russie, Bois des Iles and Amouage Lyric Woman.

  • maggiecat says:

I love Fall, and as luck would have it, our first seriously chilly day has arrived just in time for my birthday! Ormonde Woman (always), Tocca’s Collete, Hove”s Diverti – all will be in serious rotation. Now to figure out what to wear out to dinner tonight…hmmm…

  • hd says:

I’m a newbie. So I am just looking forward to giving some of the heavier OJ scents a whirl. I’ve been saving OJ woman for a cool day, since Orris Noir kind of gave me a headache in earl September. Thanks for this list! Lots to learn…

  • JulieT says:

I am in total LOVE with Mona d’O’s Vanille , Amber and also Oud! I was given a coffret and I am deliriously happy going through them <3 All will rock this Fall.

  • Judith says:

Andy Tauer L’air du desert morocain, Ormonde woman, Guerlain Bois d’Armenie and Vero Kern Onda Edp are all in heavy rotation.

  • Lisa D says:

I loved the Bottega Veneta from the get go, so the parfum form sounds right up my alley. Like This is a great choice for fall, I’m also looking forward to the deep and heavy scents I just can’t deal with in high summer – ambers, incenses, and spice markets in the souk.

  • Elisa says:

Some of my favorites for fall: Cuir de Lancome, Tabac Aurea, Agent Provocateur, Nu, Belle en Rykiel.

Going in to the rotation this year because I just procured bottles: Theorema, Midnight in Paris, Sensuous.

  • kizzers says:

I love this season. It’s finally frosty here in Southwest Scotland. Our Rowan trees are laden with red berries, which apparently is an ominous sign of a very long cold bitter winter ahead. Snow’s pretty and fun for all of 5 minutes as far as I’m concerned.
I’ve been on a bit of an incense kick this week with 28 La Pausa, and this morning I tested a little UFO on one wrist and Avignon on the other. UFO wins hands down! I’ve just brought out some SIP Fire & Cream to play with and I’m thinking this is FB worthy, delicious! This will be perfect for our Bonfire Night celebrations. I really wish that Like This didn’t turn out to be a big ol’ nasty cumin-fest on me, it smells amazing but on my skin it turns feral!

Hope this isn’t a double post as my browser does not play nicely with your website…

  • Barbara says:

Love my Tea for Two even though my hubby can’t stand it! Halle Berry is one of my cheap thrills. Forgot about Idole de Lubin and just might have to wear some tonight after work.

  • Linn says:

My favorite pick is – aside form the brilliant Hermes Ambre Narguile which I practically live in during all of Winter – Florascent Ylang! I love that; very woody on me, quite straight-forward ylang-ylang which is also great for layering.

  • My favorite fall fragrance is Chantecaille Kalimantan. I’ve been waiting for months to bring her back out again. I also like Chanel Coromandel. My husband’s favorite on me right now is DK Cashmere Mist, which I’m not so crazy about, so it’s a war of the wills when he asks for it!

  • Dubaiscents says:

This is purely hypothetical due to the complete lack of any fall like temperatures here (I grew up in New England so, I really miss fall!) but, to me fall is Interlude Man because the smokiness reminds me of the first fires we would have in our wood burning stove every fall. I also like Hermes Ambre Narguile – it is a little sweet but, still so fall like with the amber – kind of apple pie-ish.

  • Amer says:

Apparently I am going through a Kurkdjian phase right now, both niche and mainstream. I just recently discovered Silver Shadow and initially dismissed it but then smelled it on a female friend and fell in love with the sillage. Bought it. Sporting it as my autumn frag this year! WOO HOO!

  • EchoCharlie says:

Fall perfumes that I love…Shalimar is always like a warm cozy sweater. I love Kilian Straight to Heaven..the boozy sweetness makes me smile when the weather is cool. Fall is my absolute favourite season!

  • Deanna G. says:

My fall favorites are Donna Karan’s “Cashmere Mist” & Bvlgari’s “Jasmin Noir.”

  • Gisela says:

My fall favorites: Onda, Mito, Cuir de Russie, Coromandel, Equistrius

  • I just love these “Best of” posts!

Personally, it has been a great year for new releases and I have continued to wear my new loves–the Guerlain Desert Trio, Amouage Beloved, Oud Ispahan–through the cooler weather when we’ve gotten it. I’ve also broken out the Jubilation 25, Cuir Beluga, SDV, Ginistet Botrytis, Maharinih (I think I’ve decided I’d like that one better as a room spray but it’s definitely autumny) and oh, the beautiful new Ramon Monegal, Ambre di Luna is quite a beauty for Autumn, too!

  • Chrissyinoz says:

Hi March…I have a bottle of Asja that you’re welcome to (smells like pickle juice on me 🙁 )
let me know if you’re interested my email’s cmeis2000 at hotmail dot com

  • Irina says:

fall is rather short lived here so I start looking at my winter fragrances- Myhrre Ardente, Ambre Sultan and De Profundis
still Like This gets most of my atention these days
thanks a lot for the draw

  • Ninara Poll says:

I’m weird; this is when I break out my pretty-much-vintage sample of Clinique Wrappings, Aromatics Elixir, my pretty-much-vintage EL White Linen travel sized sprays, Paloma Picasso Mon Parfum, and my samples of Opium and whichever Poison flanker was in the dark blue bottle and supposedly had rose and patch in it. I also occasionally spritz on some BBW Twilight Woods or Brown Sugar and Fig, as the hubs loves those two on me. I have recently acquired a sample of what I think is one of the Angel flankers (it was unlabeled and the SA didn’t know the name or the concentration, all I know is that it’s a blue liquid and smells like Angel, but very liquory sweet on top… this sample was decanted into a tiny plastic Lancome foundation sample bottle with a twist top by whoever was too lazy to label it, and found by me all by its lonesome little self, so I asked the SA about it and whether I could take it) and am applying the teensiest drop of it on top of some Demeter Patchouli… the combo works alarmingly well on me now that it’s not 90+ F outside, and turns into a lovely patchouli a few hours in. I need to break out my fall/winter stash and start digging, there’s stuff I haven’t worn for years that I have the sudden urge to wear… in fact, I’ve forgotten some of it!

    NP

  • Perfumista8 says:

I love this time of year even despite the fact that I have cold urticaria, which can get pretty miserable. I have so many Fall/Winter perfumes – maybe because I need a little extra coziness in chilly conditions. I’ll be wearing wearing Pacifica Tibetan Mountain Temple, BK Amber Oud, Back to Black and Cruel Intentions, JM Dark Amber and Ginger Lily, Ambre Narguile, Idole du Lubin (EDP), and Une Rose to name a few.

    Have a great weekend, everyone!

  • Alica says:

Opium in vintage version, Angel Innocent, Shalimar vintage, Ginestet Botrytis – I like rich boozy and warm scents in autumn. Thanks for the drawing!

  • may says:

I love JPG Classique for fall even though it’s supposedly more suited for winter 😀

  • TaffyJ says:

I just discovered vintage Caron Parfum Sacre. Love. I’ve been rationing my sample, but really how does a single drop of liquid expand into one of the most glorious scents evah!

  • Eldarwen 22 says:

Today, I had the most wicked craving for Habanita and yesterday it was Jicky. But lately, I have been wearing Chanel’s Sycomore.

  • Jackie says:

Here in Oz it is spring so I am rotating my bottles on the shelf…
The ambers got a big airing this winter, Annick Goutal Ambre Fetish for instant comfort and warmth, Mona di Orio, and I also find a lingering sense of amber in Cuir Ottoman.

Just bought the large size Tea for Two (she said smugly). But I think I shall continue to wear this even in the summer…the tea factor keeps it from getting cloying.

    Am lemming the Bottega Veneta…

  • FearsMice says:

My fall rotation includes Lonestar Memories, Cuir de Lancome, Bottega Veneta, Barbara Bui, Natori, Omnia, and Organza Indecence. I’m looking forward to trying my Amouage samples in cooler weather, too. Thanks for the draw!

  • rosiegreen says:

My favorites in fall are Habanita, Jolie Madame, Parfum Sacre and Rykiel Woman. All warm and snuggly in our usual cold rain. It’s still hot in the afternoons here…. we haven’t had a real rain for more than 8 weeks.. very unusual in the Pacific Northwet.

  • tammy says:

Oh, I wear Asja a lot this time of year as well…mainly to bed, isn’t that funny? It’s a huge comfort scent for me. My Carons get a good wearing,, as does Balcon de Noel,

Heck, I wear mainly heavy hitters anyway, so this is my time to spray with abandon!

Thanks for a lovely giveaway ~

  • Farouche says:

For fall I love 31 Rue Cambon, Cuir de Russie, Keiko Mecheri Canyon Dreams, Saffron Troublant, Eau Suave, and Loukhoum Poudree among many others :). Autumn is my favorite season, and oriental fragrances and chypres seem to go best with this time of year. Please enter me in your generous draw.

  • Milena says:

Ormonde Jane Tolu and Le Labo Vanille 44 I enjoy the most in the fall/winter.

  • pam says:

I’m going with some Bandit for now. Keep in mind, here in the Deep South, we aren’t yet in Fall. So some days Eau Sauvage is still just right.

  • Janet in California says:

Trayee is perfection any time but I can’t wait to try it in cool weather. Coco and Incense Oud. OJ Woman. BV. And Epic! I could go on but I am excited to try some new ones off other peoples lists.

    Thanks!

  • MaryLizette says:

I am still on the hunt for my favorite Fall scent. I will stick with L’heure Bleue and Ambre Extreme for now. I love these “best scents for whatever season, occasion etc…” lists. Keep them coming!

  • Lala says:

Things I love in the fall are Pomegranate Noir, Ormonde Jayne Woman, Chene and Ivoire de Balmain.

  • Rena says:

My fall favorites–vintage Emeraude and Lollia Relax. Kalimantan comes out for the dreary awful rainy days in Nov…….

  • Elena says:

I have a few samples that I’m looking forward to wearing in colder weather, like Bandit, Dia, and Gold. I have a bottle of Prada eau ambree, and a mini of Bottega Veneta which will be getting some love now that it’s cool. Most of what I have/gravitate toward is very spring/summer oriented, and I am trying to branch out and find some cool weather scents that are “me”. Lots of inspiration here!

  • Thalia says:

I posted my “perfumes I actually own” autumn list at Now Smell This, but the samples I’ll be hitting hard ths fall include Lyric, Ambre 114 (wearning it now!), Chene, Bois Oriental, Olympic Orchirds’ Red Cattleya, and Shaal Nur. Also, I have two minis on the way in the mail, Boucheron Trouble and Celine Magic (NOT Celine Dion) — I think they both sound promisingly fall-y.

    • Patty says:

You Chene people! 🙂 yeah for more Lyric people. We must unite and form a fan club.

Is the Ambre 114 the Hdp?

      • THALIA!!! I love Boucheron Trouble. OMG!! You are the first person on a scent blog that I’ve seen order it. ENJOY!!! I’m going to go spritz me some RIGHT NOW!!
        Portia xx

      • Thalia says:

Yes, the HDP. I wore it after my comment and was reminded that although it’s great for a few hours, eventually it gets on my nerves and stays on long after it has worn out its welcome. I’m not sure what it is, but there’s an element in some ambers that I find really discomforting … they can be “flat” in a weird way, does that make any sense?

Portia, I really hope I love Trouble as much as you do! I can’t wait to try it.

  • Julie says:

Tom reminded me on PST that it’s time to break out the Chene! I do love it so. Also CBIHP Burning Leaves, Organza Indecence, Coromandel, and all the vanillas we’ve been talking about earlier this week!

    • Patty says:

Tom is evil. 🙂 I actually learned to like chene, but it took a while.

Burning Leaves, yes, layered with the Apple one. Absolute Organza Indecence for an indecent night out, which I have none of. Indecent nights out, I still have some OI!

  • loledinburgh5 says:

For me this autumn is all about Theorema,Timbuktu,Parfum Sacre and L’Arte …ohh and Vetiver Tonka and for the school run some Ninfeo mio is hitting the spot nicely is so yummy and invigorating ..
I’d love to be included in the draw but I’m in Scotland so I don’t know if I can participate… Thanks for the list I’m sorely tempted now to order some Interlude now.

    • Patty says:

Oh, yeah, Vetiver Tonka, how could I forget that and Theorema? And time to break out the AG Mon Parfum Cherie and Caron Accord 119. the things I forget, but my list would be like 75 perfumes, I swear, if I just started making the list.

  • Lynne says:

Fall is here! Yay to the demise of oppressive heat here in the Midwest!! I am in Prada l’eau ambree,,,but will also drag out Ambre Nuit by Dior. Lyric by Amouage is perfect now, too!!

  • Lauren S says:

Wore Tea for Two this week for the first time since last fall . . . In love all over again.

Thanks for another great chance to win!

    • Patty says:

You are so welcome. Tea for Two is so amazing, I need to dig out my bottle. Did they really discontinue it? I keep thinking that’s just some horrible rumor that will eventually not be true.

  • ana says:

Out of what I own I love wearing my leathers: Dzing, Cuir de Lancome, Montale Oud Cuir d’Arabie, and some other things like Shalimar, Santal Blanc by Lutens, Rossy de Palma,Tea for Two, Theo Fennell Scent. I have also a tiny mini of Mona di Orio Oud which is amazing in cooler weather.I think I’ve listed nearly my entire collection so I must love heavier, more substantial fragrances that are suited to seasons like autumn and winter.

    • Patty says:

If that’s your entire collection, then, yup, you love you some fall fragrances! 🙂 But such pretty ones. I adore Dzing and Tea for Two so much, they just make my heart happy.

  • Pola says:

I will wear Botrytis, Coromandel, and Azyjade.

  • LCT says:

I’m still in the learning and exploring phase of my journey so my fall picks are mainly just my faves of the moment. Loving SL Santal Majescule, Olfactive Studio’s Lumiere Blanche, Tauer L’eau D’espices and Le Labo Labdanum 18. Please enter me in the draw so I can learn more!

    • Patty says:

wow, that’s your learning phase? I’m impressed. You did not bother with the training wheels! 🙂 those are really lovely. I almost forgot about Majescule, which is a great pick for fall.

  • mary says:

Wow,what great lusts! I meant to type lists, but there you go! Thanks for the great posts! We have been having Indian summer here in the Bay Area, so I have been into some different things fir fall. Perversly, I am loving up my vintage Chanel Gardenia, that Patty dissed pretty hard in her glorious Gardenia overview, but wth, to each her own and more for me!”0) Played around today by layering it with Ineke Hothouse Flower,I am loving it. Yesterday was Keiko pure, pretty jasmine. And Nocturnes for sleep. NotLining weatherup the leathers though! The minute it’s sweater Please enter mewea

    • Patty says:

Oh, I like Chanel Gardenia! It just isn’t, well, a gardenia. 🙂

that Ineke Houthouse Flower is so nice, I’m a big fan of that. We did get snow overnight, I’m just trying to think how that happened. I blame the Presidential Debates.

  • Anita Lane says:

I love Posse *best* lists, esp the comments! It feels good to know others love my fall favorites: Wazamba, PdN Vanille Tonka, Maubbousin, Jungle l’Elephant, Mona di Oro Vanille, Cuir de Lancome, Cuir Ottoman, Coco……..I love the fall! Today is cool and rainy and I’m wearing Gris Clair, which is perfect for this weather. Enjoy your October weekend, everyone 🙂

    • Patty says:

Oh, lovely fall picks, anita! I agree, getting everyone else’s favorites always reminds me of the 300 other perfume I love in the fall, so I have to go dig them out!

    • Musette says:

OOooh! Hi, babydoll! I totally forgot about Cuir de Lancome. It’s one of the few leathers I can wear when my sinuses are busted. I am going to go outside, in the 31F temperatures (can you believe it?) and start putting away my summer pots and ‘stuff’. I think I’ll wear CdL!

      Thanks for the reminder!

      xoxoxo

  • I feel like some cartoon character with my head whipping from one poster to another — ping! Portia, pow! March, zap! Patty, and y’all…
Patty, snow? That is obscene. Musette, hope you get over the allergies and can revel in your leather again. March, hope you score more Asja, can’t do a thing for you over here, I’ve never as much as seen a bottle…
Now off to dig out some vintage Diorling…

    • Patty says:

Snow is obscene, and it DID snow. it’s melted off now, but it’s cold and feels like winter. I want fall back!!! We didn’t hardly get one.

  • Lucas says:

You prepared some great recommendations for us to try this fall.

I think I will wear my Annick Goutal nuit Etoilee proudly this autumn and I’ll be using some samples like L’Artisan Voleur de Roses, Histoires de Parfums Rosam, Kilian Amber Oud to name just a few.

Thank you for a generous giveaway

    • Patty says:

Oh, amber oud! It is time to get out all the By Kilian Ouds for winter. I guess I think of them as the winter go-to scents, they are just spectacular then!

  • judith says:

I have been rotating Creeds. White Flowers, Sublime Vanille and Royal-Oud are what I have been wearing and craving.

  • turquoisewater says:

My favorite for fall is Tauer’s Incense Rose; it’s always perfect. I also live Mitsouko in fall, and I can’t wait ’til it cools off more (still very warm during the day here in the California coastal-valley) to wear my new purchase and new cool weather fave, Donna Karan Signature… so cozy!

    • Patty says:

Those are such great fall fragrances. Mitsouko is definitely one of my go-to fall perfumes. She is pouting in the corner about being left out and those upstart Carons got put in. 🙂

  • Ariel says:

I love smoke for fall – L’Artisan Tea for Two and Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille. I also get to pull out my beloved decants of Parfums d’Imperfiction O Alquimista and Eleven Minutes. L’Artisan Dzing! is perfect for fall, and is on current heavy rotation. On the warmer, sunny days, I like Voluspa Crisp Champagne home and body mist.

  • Claudia D. says:

Honestly, the scent I love the most for fall is just some plain old Patchouli oil. My husband tells me I smell like a hippie, but that’s ok! I love it! 🙂

    Thanks for the great giveaway!

    • Patty says:

Oh, yikes! I don’t know that I’ve ever smelled the straight stuff!. I may have to recitify that and be horrified. 🙂

  • DinaC says:

My fall favorites include Sycomore, Bois des Iles, Cuir de Russie, 31 Rue Cambon (gee, Dina, do you like Chanel?), Mitsouko, and Kenzo Amour. I’ve been sampling Bottega Veneta a lot this fall and have added it to my lemming list, along with VC&A Bois d’Iris, which is another great fall scent with its ambergris-y, wood-y iris. I plan on trying Like This around Halloween. I got a sample and have been saving it since it has a pumpkin note. 🙂

    • Patty says:

That is just a few Chanels, Dina.:)

Like This is so amazing. I’ve run out of my sample, I really need to get my hands on more!

  • monster says:

I wait for fall to pull out Dzongkha, Infusion D’Iris, and all my varied and beloved fig scents because fig is fall in my perfume lexicon.

  • Ann-Sofie says:

Yay! Fall is here – at last. Best season of the year. I will wear Coromandel (people keep asking me if I smoked pot when I wear it, I think I will nod hereafter instead of making disclaimers and explain it’s a perfume), Féminité du bois (as far as my small sample take me), Jungle Elephant (there are some passive aggressive people I want to annoy), Dune (because it’s a lovely ghost), Coco (my best friend, always sad in summer when it’s kind of obsolete) and D Karan Gold (not the obvious fall frag, but I think it will be nice in winter, and winter is soon due). I would be wearing L’Heure Bleu if I had it, to celebrate the good old 100 years. I would also spray myself senseless with 31, Rue cambon if I had it, but as they say: If dreams where horses, fools would ride. Nah, I’ll get my for the moment bankrupt hands on it later….

Many thanks for the draw! Wish you the best weekend.

    • Ann says:

Oooh, oooh, another Coromandel fan! But I have to wait till it’s pretty cold (50 F and under) before I can wear it. But hopefully it won’t be too much longer …

    • Aparatchick says:

Love Coromandel! I can’t remember what I was wearing (it wasn’t Coromandel, but something very patch-heavy) the day the police chief stopped by my office – we worked for our local city government – and told me I really didn’t want to be wearing that perfume if I ever get pulled over on a traffic violation!

      • Ann-Sofie says:

LOL! I work in a drug addiction research centre – where I get most of the ganja-comments. Best thing ever was when a colleague sniffed the Coromandel infested air and mumbled ” What is this smell….it remainds me of my good old days….sniff sniff?”.

  • EasilyEnabled says:

Wowie Zowie! This past quarter I managed to spend $130.00-$150.00 in samples and the only thing I’ve smelled is the Seville. How did all those scents get past my selection frenzy? My choices for fall are MDCI Chypre Palatin and my Indie fav Indolice.

    • Patty says:

Um, what is Indolice? need to know here. 🙂

      • EasilyEnabled says:

Hi Patty. Providence Perfume Company makes this little beauty. It is an earthy scent. I get the mushrooms in the opening. I could almost roll in it! The drydown is almost as good as the opening “tah dah!”

  • emmaye says:

I can’t seem to go out with my Elizabeth Arden Green Tea – kinda a contrasting “green” theme for when its orange, red, brown and yellow all around..refreshing Arden for the days that are getting shorter and darker here in Finland!

    • Musette says:

That’s an interesting juxtaposition! You guys don’t mess around up there, do you? When winter hits, it hits HARD! We get dark – but not dark like that.

What will you wear when it gets really cold and dark?

      xoxo

  • Teri says:

Now this is a giveaway I DO want to be entered in. 😀

Two days ago it was 83 and I was wearing Eau de Hadrian for one last time. This morning, I awoke to 28 degrees and an inch of snow and went diving for Vero Kern Rubj to warm me up. I’m wearing jeans and a sweater (it’s casual Friday here) and Rubj is keeping me nice and toasty.

Older fall favorites: Massolari Ambra, Aqaba, Micallef Autumne

Newer fall favorites: Neela Vermeire Trayee, Ann Gerard Cuir de Nacre

    • Musette says:

      WHAT?

Where on earth ARE you people with these crazy weather swings? I thought I lived in Swingland!

You’re in jeans and a sweater? I’d be in a snowsuit, with flannel longjohns…and a hat. And some mittens.

And a flask of brandy around my neck.

      Great perfume choices, btw!

      xxxo

  • Kathryn says:

Mona di Orio Vanille and Arquiste Anima Dulcis are the two new scents at the top of my list this fall, but I’m also delighted to return to old favorites like Parfum Sacre and Attrape Coeur. Ambra Grisea is something that I’d almost forgotten about, but you’re right—it would be perfect in this weather.

  • Ivy says:

Fall is my favorite season, I just love the smell in the air. I’m wearing a lot of Filles en Aiguilles, CB’s November, and Dzing. I also dug out an old sample of DSH Fresh Mown Hay that I’ve had forever and I’m really liking that as well, it smells like a combination of apple Jolly Ranchers and gasoline.

    • Musette says:

okay. You have officially made the Make Musette Spit Out Her Coffee list!!!

      Apple Jolly Ranchers and Gasoline!

      xoxoox

    • Ivy says:

Ha…awesome! That may not sound pleasant but it actually smells really good. You made Ambra Grisea sound wonderful, I’m a sucker for descriptions like that one!

  • Aparatchick says:

Ha! Patty’s closing her windows and we’re hoping to open ours – I’ll be thrilled when I can finally turn off the A/C!

Fall means I can switch to my cool weather PdNs: Vanille Tonka and Sacrebleu. And a couple of Tauers will be moved up from the back of the drawer too.

Everything on the list sounds wonderful, but Tom’s Opus Oil is sounding like My Kind of Thing.

    • Musette says:

Where on earth ARE you? LOL! It’s so freakin’ cold here (44F and rainy) – and we haven’t turned our heat on yet…and I’m in layers and shivering like a snake (snakes shiver, don’t they? Well, this one does!!)….and I have the teakettle going nonstop…and it’s all just so …tragic!

That Opus Oil does sound lovely, doesn’t it? I am looking forward to trying that line.

      xoxo

      • Aparatchick says:

Musette, I’m in Florida, though my husband is visiting relatives up your way this weekend, where he will …. shiver like a snake, I guess!

  • Amy Orvin says:

I really like wearing Estee Lauder scents in the fall. I have been recently wearing Pleasures and find it to be perfect for this time of year. Thank you for the giveaway.

    • Musette says:

Most EL scents have something in the base that makes me sneeze – hard! But I do still have a soft spot in my heart for Private Collection. That was probably the first scent that really, truly ‘registered’ with me as a Scent. Others, like Anais Anais, Romeo Gigli, the original Chloe… I liked but I am not sure I thought of them as perfume. PC was just so ..beautiful.

      xo

  • jirish says:

I think fall is the perfect season for a lot of the Andy Tauer scents, and I’ve started wearing my Incense Rose, Un Rose Chypree, and Lonestar Memories a lot.

    • Ann says:

Nice picks there. Thanks — that reminds me I need to go get out some of my Tauers as well.

    • mals86 says:

You know, it sounds odd but Carillon pour un Ange actually works for me in the fall because of that chilly dirt thing in the base.

  • NeenaJ says:

With daytime temps in NC still hitting 80, it’s hard to contemplate fall perfumes. But, on mornings when it has dipped into the 60’s, I can see that Serge Lutens Santal Majuscule and Bottega Veneta will be getting lots of wear.

    • Ann says:

Love those two as well, Neena! And you’re right, our cool mornings lately here in the South have been perfect for autumn faves …

  • mals86 says:

We really must have a how-to video on eyelashes by Portia! I’m putting in my request for one right now, please.

Now I am stalking Faberge Imperial on ebay, thankyouvery(sarcastic)much!! Why, oh why do I fall for these vintagey things??? (If I score a bottle I’ll stop being sarcastic and start being pathetically grateful.)

I just got my Parfum Sacre out a week or so ago, and it is wonderful all over again. Likewise my PdN Vanille Tonka, which just makes me HAPPY, and my SSS Tabac Aurea. If I had any more vintage Coty Chypre, I’d wear that, but as it is I am delighted with the DSH version (discontinued, of course… one day I will beg Dawn to pleeeeze pleeeeze make some more pleeeeeze). My vintage Emeraude is perfect for bedtime snugglage.

And it’s cool enough for Memoir Woman again – and since Dear Daisy the Queen Enabler sent me a bit of the body cream, let me just moan a little in wowness and say that you were right, Miss Musette, like you were about that Soivohle Centennial, which is another one that seems really perfect in this weather.

Other things right for fall: Organza Indecence, Mauboussin, and the bizarrely beautiful Tableau de Parfums Loretta. (Loretta is a freakfest, a patch-bomb, a dark-fruit tuberose so weird and so compelling that it makes Poison, even vintage Poison, seem tame. The stuff is completely addictive.

    • Ann says:

Hi, Mals! Have you tried the Imperial? If not, STC has samples, and the bottles on eBay I’ve seen get pretty pricey, though they are beautiful. Love the Organza Indecence, too, and the Memoir — though I am so envious that you got to try the body cream — yummo!!

      • mals86 says:

Well, I just put Imperial on my wishlist at StC and TPC. I’ll still be stalking the bay, in case a bottle goes cheeeep. It just sounds like Me, ya know?

I get what Anita says about the body cream being more legible than the fragrance. Memoir nearly twisted my brain into pretzels until I figgered it out, and then I loved it – the cream is more seamless and less weird, easier to “get,” as she says.

        • Musette says:

Memoir Cream is ridiculous, innit? I’m glad they don’t make that in vat-sized tubs, else I would order one and just dive in, like Esther Williams on a bender!

Funny you should mention Centennial – I didn’t put it in the list because I have yarked on and on about it for so long I figured you guys would pull out the flaming cudgels – but I just pulled out my bottle a couple of days ago, along with the Historical Chypre and Love Speaks Primeval…and…oh, yessssss~

          xoxoxoA

    • Hiya Mals 86
I have been strong-armed into an eyelash application video by Musette and Patty. It took me nearly a year working in drag full time before I became truly proficient. Now that I am going blind it’s good that I can do it with my eyes closed now,
      Portia xx

  • Ann says:

Great picks, everyone! And Anita, isn’t that Mona Ambre great? I love it, too, and it smells very close to a Diptyque candle that I just got, so I can have that great scent at home and out and about, too!

    • Musette says:

Ann, I was stunned by how much I liked the Ambre, considering that I think of myself as an Amber Hater! To be honest, I have no idea how I came by that conviction so perhaps it’s time for me to revisit some more ambers, see how I feel about them.

      Not the Nazgul, though!

      xo

  • Joaquim says:

I’m just discovering the O’driù line and Xvert and Laurhum are two impressive fall (and even winter) scents for me, the whole O’driù line is, also, amazing
    Thank you for the draw!

    • Ann says:

Hi! I’m right there with you — those are some wonderful lines. Enjoy!

    • Musette says:

I’ve got a bunch of O’driu samples that I have not given nearly enough attention to. Now that it’s fully Autumn here, I think I’ll pull them out and start spritzing!

      xo

  • cheesegan says:

Favorites for fall Cabochard parfum, Cuir d’Ottoman, Cuir de Russie, Wazamba, Mitsouko, Fendi.

    • Ann says:

Oh, yes, I see you’re “falling” (sorry 🙂 ) into leather, among other things, very nicely there!

  • Alnysie says:

I realize I haven’t tried any of these…! But an obvious fall fragrance for me is ELD’O Like This. And I started wearing OJ Tolu as soon as nights cooled off, it’s definitely in my top 5.

    • Ann says:

Mmmm …. Tolu. Nice choice! I’m poised to dig out my sample as we speak. Must re-try the Like This, or maybe I never did. Thanks!
