I’m Late! I’m Late!

I got nothin’

…but it’s because I actually have a whole lot to tell you – just can’t do it right now.  I’ve been up since 2a…waaay too old for that kind of thing these days.  3 days in gorgeous 80F Dallas weather.  My pop’s military honors service was so incredibly moving.  Those of you who know Texas know that one of the most fascinating things about the state is just..it’s so freakin’ VAST!    Coming up the drive to the Veteran’s cemetery…about 1/2  mile away is the flag….on a hill…in solitary splendor…..at half-mast.  For my father.  That visual will stay with me forever.

I was in close confines so I only wore the Diptyque Creme Riche body cream.  Funny, that.  When I first tried it I thought it was unscented, then I got the jar with all the myrrh and roses.  I thought I’d lost my tiny little mind.  So imagine my delight when Mohammed at Nordies said “I think this creme is unscented”  ha!  it’s not just me!

Happy!Happy!Happy!Happy!  My beloved  Roseanne at Saks has the Les Deserts d’Orient line (the Rose Nacre, Encens Mythique (drooool)…and the other one.  I have a little bit left of the Mythique….I think I should…..??  It’s so pretty!  we’ll see… Penhaligon’s Iris Prima?  Maybe.  Penhaligon’s Malabah?  Mos’ def!  It’s got that Chanel 1932/Eau de Cologne vibe going on..but sparklier.  And we know how Musette loves sparkly!

Back to Texas.  Vast skies  and fields of bluebonnets.  Barbeque.  Tequila.  Tex-Mex.  More Tex-Mex.  I was happiest hippo in the great state of Texas!  Wish I could put all of that in the shivery state of Illinois.  Y’all Texans can keep the fire ants, though.  And those ridiculously giant alien bug things.  oh…and the scorpions, too.  And the sharks with lasers (wait.  that’s Australia)….

Back in Chicago now at Missy DB’s House o’ Cats….I’m coked to the gills on Benadryl so …….I’m OUT!  I’ll be back next week with a little bit more coherent post.

  • So glad you have good memories of Texas to go with your amazing dad’s military honors. I was in Dallas the same weekend! Missed you–I was helping a friend throw a party, as she got all stressed out at the last moment. We had a hilarious Texas girls’ moment Saturday morning–we went to an open air range, then shopping, then Tex Mex lunch. Both of us chose (independently) to test Rose Rebelle Respawn while shootin’. Rebel roses, so silly 😀

Hope you feel better soon. . .but don’t start tempting me with those Les Deserts d’Orient, you enabler! You encourage my champagne tastes in the most unabashed way, and I adore you for it. Be well.

Thanks for sharing with us when you are so tired and emotional after your dad’s honors.

I’m all into Lily at the moment. 🙂

  • Ann says:

Oh, sweetie, what a wonderful tribute to your dad! Hope you are feeling better now and also that Bruno is still doing well. Love and hugs to you …

  • Could you tell me where I can get niche perfumes in Dallas?

    • Sapphre says:

Hi Perfumed Veil, You can find the Chanel Exclusifs, some L’Artisan and Annick Goutal, Atelier Cologne, Diptyque, Tom Ford Exclusives and Jo Malone at Neiman Marcus, especially the Northpark store. Hermes, Chanel, and Dior all have boutiques with their exclusive lines in Highland Park Village. In McKinney, a half hour north of Dallas, there is a little store on the square called Sharla’s that has Kai, Niven Morgan, Eight and Bob and Penhaligon’s listed on their website, but when I went in the store (admittedly several months ago), they also had Nasomatto, Caron, and some others. Unfortunately, we lost our Barney’s and our Saks. Nordstrom in Northpark and the Dallas Galleria also has Annick Goutal, Diptyque and Jo Malone. Hope that helps.

Sending love. What a beautiful, proud image of the flag at half-mast…

My sister is in Texas (Ft. Hood) and has sort of a love-hate relationship with it. She likes lots of things about Texas, but the heat and the giant bugs balance out the good stuff. oh dear. 🙂

I like Malabah too, and I’m with you on the 1932 – wonderful sparkles.

  • rosarita says:

Oh Musette, thank you for the vivid imagery! Texas was my first home away on my own, where I met my husband, where our daughter was born…it will always be special to me. I can see the bluebonnets and smell the BBQ 🙂 So glad you had that special experience with your dad.

  • Lynley says:

Your Texas trip sounds wonderful 🙂
I have Songe… love it. Thought I wanted the rose one but Songe won out. But it’s a long way back to Dubai if I want another! But at least if you get the rose one you won’t have to go sniffin’ that poor guy again 😉

    • zazie says:

I was blown away by Songe! really loved it. Hands down my favorite of “les deserts d’orient” trio.
I tried it once, during a trip to london-when I realised I loved it from top to bottom I was already far away from the shop…:(
If you got yours in Dubai, that must make for a lovely “perfume memory”: I regret not splurging right away!
      😉

  • zazie says:

oh, you must be so proud of your father!
I can imagine the honors being incredibly moving.
As you conjured images of texas, I felt the need to google some pictures. What an amazing state (and country).
I’ve never been there (the closest to Texas I’ve ever been is Arizona <3), but the endless american skyes and the vastness of the land are etched in my heart.
See what you've done, now! I want to leave my office and travel, like – NOW!
By the way, I often travel scent-less so I definitely stand by your body cream choice!!!!
    xoxo

  • Solanace says:

I think Rose Nacrée du Désert (not a bad name either!) is one of the most incredible perfumes ever made.

  • dinazad says:

    Well – that was interesting….. 😉

If I had anything to say about what to buy or not, it’s “Songe d’un Bois d’Eté” which I’d recommend from the Déserts d’Orient line. It’s wonderful – and so is the name. Who wouldn’t want to wear “Dream of a Summer Wood”?

Hope you get better soon (and hope Bruno continues to get better as well)!

  • jilliecat says:

Thanks for sharing that incredible image – your dad must have been a wonderful person

I’m into iris at the moment and can’t believe that in my youth I didn’t recognise iris notes in anything, but that was in pre perfume blog days and now I know so much better.

Get better soon! And love to Bruno.
