Mendittorosa Id (Odori d’Anima)

First, the dates for the Swapmania after all the voting – by just a couple of votes, May 17/18 it is!  Look for a post on May 16, Friday, telling you what to do.

Before I talk about Mendittorosa Id, can we just have a brief chat about a couple of television shows that are giving me really big WTFMoments?  Game of Thrones last week’s episode completely went into the weeds from the book.  when I was watching, I kept thinking, um, I don’t remember this in the books. then quickly decide my memory really sucks and I just didn’t remember it.  But, yes, I was right, what they did in the episode was not in the books.  For a fan of the books, taking this kind of left turn is super-exciting – I have NO idea where it’s going now.

And Mad Men?  Anyone watching that?  Don’s return to the office was so not what I expected.  Humbling, tedious, anxiety.  By the time he got called into the conference room to hear what was going to happen, I felt like it was me.  And his decision?  Won’t spoil it for anyone.  I’m still puzzling it all out.

And those two things lead pretty nicely into Mendittorosa Id.  An oriental, but not just that.  Not what I expected, but better in ways that I can’t really explain.  I’m sad that it’s spring and I wont be wearing this much until fall because it’s heavier than I like for spring/summer.  I first smelled the Mendittorosa Odori d’Anima line at Pitti Fragranze in Florence last fall and loved the line.  I was thinking when I quickly tried them all that South would be the fragrance I’d love the most, but it turns out that Id keeps me more interested.

Notes of ravensara, jasmine, iris, birch, oud, cinnamon and labdanum make up Mendittorosa Id.  Warmed cinnamon and incense, which is pretty charming alone, but it also has a lovely floral heart. That keeps it from being a much heavier oriental in the line of Opium or Poison.  It opens strong and softens, opening into the florals and leaving the heavier notes to sing backup quietly and insistently.  This one will be in steady rotation for me when the weather turns cold again.

We haven’t done a giveaway in a while, so let’s do a set of all five of the Mendittorosa fragrances to three lucky commenters.  Drop a comment to be entered to win.  So have you managed to avoid the Game of Thrones or Mad Men television habit, or are you hooked on one or the other or both?  Over them or still think they are good tv?

  • Sherry B. says:

I’ve completely broken my TV habit (well, except for Downton Abbey!); I’m more of a reader. Sometimes, though, when I read these types of posts and comments, I can’t help wondering if I’m missing out…..

  • Jennifer Smith says:

I saw the 1st GOT season from the public library’s DVD collection. A bit gory and more sex and nudity than I prefer in my programming, but I really like the music and sometimes hunt up the cover music on YouTube . I’ve really liked Once Upon a Time and Bletchley Circle and Sherlock and Intelligence. The cinnamon scent sounds intriguing .

  • Janlast says:

The Glades, I’m fascinated by the old Southern stuff. Then, in a fit, I bought all the seasons of China beach and am awash in tears every episode.

  • jalesley says:

I’ve managed to skip them, but I was totally captured by True Detective with Matthew McConaughey

  • Kate says:

I haven’t started watching GoT yet, I’m still trying to finish the books! House M.D. has been my addiction lately, netflix just added it to the instant stream.

  • Tiara says:

If I ever try to catch up on all of the shows that sound interesting and so many are hooked on, no one would see me for years. We’re back to watching the The Amazing Race followed by The Good Wife. For some reason we also started watching The Voice but that’s about as much TV as we can muster in a week.

  • Tiffanie says:

I’ve been following Mad Men via tomandlorenzo.com — love their fashion commentary.

Love the scents (and commentary) here, too. Thank you, Perfume Posse!

  • Kandice says:

I haven’t watched either of those series although I’ve heard good things about both. I don’t watch TV much, but one of my current obsessions is Scandal. It’s about the only thing on right now that I always try to see. Thanks so much for the draw. I’d love the try the perfumes. Perfume definitely remains one of my obsessions 🙂

  • Ashley A says:

I don’t watch Game of Thrones, and I am slowly working my way through the Mad Men seasons. I can’t wait to get caught up, it is too good!

  • Civet says:

Hooked on GoT, haven’t started watching this season’s Mad Men yet.

  • Claire C. says:

In the process of watching the entire run of Mad Men. I’m on season 4 and mildly obsessed – it’s very, very high quality programming, with ethically challenging storylines and stunning visuals (including one of the best wardrobes on television).

  • Nitasha says:

Oh goodness I’m so behind the GoT mania. Must catch up after I finally finish Miss Fisher! Thanks for giveaway, I’ve never tried this line.

  • Lynne Marie says:

I don’t have cable so just use the TV to watch DVD’s. I do have the game of thrones books ( all my boys read them) but I’ve been afraid to start the series because I’ll want to do them all, one after the other, and that is a BIG time commitment :-). Id sounds fascinating – thanks for the draw!!

  • foxbins says:

I don’t follow GoT or Mad Men, more of a Amazing Race and Project Runway kind of woman for the little TV I do watch. I think Id sounds amazing and would love a chance to try it. Thanks for the review!

  • Rina says:

Don’t watch either, but I also never watched Seinfeld either, LOL. I did get hooked on True Detective and a die-hard Top Chef groupie!

  • Bastet says:

I don’t watch TV, but I did enjoy the first two or three GoT books (until it all got too dreary and depressing). Maybe its good that the TV show is not sticking strictly to the story line.

  • Georgette says:

Well, to tell you the truth . . . . I am not a TV person. Last time I tried to spend any time watching was when the series”House” ran.
These scents sound interesting. Thanks for the draw.

  • Bridget B says:

I can’t get enough of GoT! I only read the books until half way through the third novel. So it’s all been new to me since the end of last season. Never got into mad men. Maybe that can be a netflix option next winter. Thanks for the draw. These sound lovely.

  • Solanace says:

What a coincidence! I was just telling DH this weekend that we ought to get the boxed first season of Game of Thrones and start catching up. Eagerly anticipating the second season of Orange is the New Black, and luvin The Big Bang Theory.

  • Elia says:

    Mad Men is still running??
I enjoy Mad Men most times, it’s had its ups and downs.
I watch Game of Thrones because everybody else does. It’s vastly overrated.

  • Laurels says:

I still watch and really enjoy both shows, but haven’t yet seen last night’s episodes, so I appreciate you not spelling out the latest twists. (I’ve been avoiding the Internet all day, but I figured I was safe with perfume blogs.) Game of Thrones does have a certain lowest-common-denominator quality, and I’m not a big fan of blood and gore, but it’s beautifully filmed and really entertaining, and doesn’t insult one’s intelligence.

Id is a great name for a perfume.

  • sunnlitt says:

No Mad Men or Game of Thrones. Not quite sure why.
    Loving The Good Wife, though.
    Thanks for the wonderful drawing.

  • Irina says:

No Tv addiction, here but I am a fan of the book
interesting house- would love to try
    Thanks a lot, Patty

  • Nemo says:

I haven’t started watching the most recent season of GoT yet, but I am looking forward to catching up! I just finished binge-watching House of Cards recently as well 🙂 So much good TV!

  • Katherine says:

I’m on Netflix also which leaves me a season behind on Mad Men and Game of Thrones. I’m waiting for Sherlock BBC season 4 and Orange is the New Black Season 2. both are also good. I really love each and every Italian line I’ve tried. I wish they were easier to test and try. It makes me want to go to Italy again.

  • rosarita says:

I didn’t have cable last year so as soon as Mad Men Season 6 was up on Netflix I binge-watched until this new season started. Can’t help it, as awful as Draper has been, watching it all catch up with him is hard to take. Having him cool his heels in that office all day and made me feel so bad for him. Really interested in where this goes next. Thanks for the draw!

  • KimB says:

Haven’t been able to get into either of those series. But I have been faithfully watching Elementary – great version of the Sherlock Holmes characters. The Id perfume sounds interesting, although I still yearn for something as wonderful as the original Opium……

  • Ncmyers says:

Love Mad Men, behind a season though since we ditched cable a few years back. Netflix for us. Loved Breaking Bad and House of Cards. We don’t have the GoT channel with youngish kiddos yet. The perfume sounds amazing, btw! Thanks!

  • Two of my staff members watch Game of Thrones and the Walking Dead. They discuss them sooo seriously. I watch TV, but Bones and NCIS are more my speed.

  • Elena says:

Love Mad Men, GoT was just a little too sexually violent for me. House of Cards is great, too, and it’s not exactly breaking news but my husband and I are finishing up watching The Sopranos, which is pretty easily my favorite show ever.

  • Ellen says:

I love the books and I love the series of GOT. I really do think they are doing pretty well as far as following the books are concerned. What I want are the next two books in the series. I haven’t watched Mad Men. I’d love to try the Mendittorosa fragrances. Id sounds just like something I would like. So thank you for the opportunity to try something completely new. I LOVE IT!.

  • Tena says:

I have avoided every TV habit – I don’t own one and never have. I do use Netflix, but maybe an hour a month. Of course now that I have finally been granted my accounting designation ( On April Fool’s Day no less) and have 25 hrs + a week freed up, I may actually dive into Netflix series.

I am so excited about Swapmania that I bought a labeller for decants I hope to swap,
