Amoureuse by Parfums DelRae 2002

Hi Perfumed Posse Peeps! What’s up? Well, the North is in the throes of the end of Summer and we Down Under are heading rapidly towards spring. SPRING!! So I wanted to chat about Amoureuse, a fragrance that perfectly fits the mid seasons for me. Wearable as a reminder of Spring, or during spring, all weather really but particularly perfect in the mids.

Amoureuse by Michel Roudnitska for Parfums DelRae 2002

BaseNotes gives these featured accords:
Top: Tangerine, cardamom
Heart: French tuberose, French jasmine, Tahitian ginger lily
Base: Oakmoss, honey, sandalwood

I think we need to look at the perfumer today Michel Roudnitska, extremely talented son of Edmond (Femme, Diorissimo, Eau Sauvage, La Parfume de Therese, Eau d”Hermes) and a fine perfumer in his own right. Michel created Noir Epices, Shiloh and Magnolia Grandiflora Michel as well as a few of the DelRae frags. Clearly a modern master in his own right.

Tangerine and cardamom, it’s not really the open because already Amoureuse is all sexy, dirty, green and breathy white flowers with urinous honey straight out of the gate. Amoureuse opens freaky, no other word for it, and I can’t get enough. Disgusting and gorgeous play against each other, vibrating until gorgeous wins out after about 15-20 minutes and suddenly you are being blown about by a tropical storm of beautiful wet white flowers that still talk of the bedroom but softer, languid, hot air and white beaches, blue sky and al fresco dining as the year thaws from winter. My skin throws a very narcissus accord at this point, both green and piercingly beautiful that hints at both flower and stalk, sappy, broken and fresh cut.

The heart is wonderful in Amoureuse, yes just like falling in love Amoureuse tends to make me giddy, happy, energetic and magically gorgeous. Amoureuse is a glamour all of its own. Like adding a patina of the sultry overblown fecund Empress from the tarot deck. Amoureuse is spring, from the earth to the Amoureuse Parfums DelRae Hedychium_gardnerianum Wikipediatrees and flowers, the uncontrollable urge to reproduce and the brilliant pumping, birthing and growing of new life.

The spicy green is maintained all through the life of Amoureuse, though not a bitter green, no spiky or hard edges because Amoureuse is about cardamoms softness and plush green depths creating shadow to the bright high flying florals lights.

Lasting and projection are excellent with Amoureuse, you can easily overspray so do exercise restraint until you work out how your body reacts with it. My usually scent eating body will still be wafting a generous quantity of fragrance if I do a spritz to my chest and one to my wrists and smoosh after I finish work for the night, so 6 hours later still quite fragrant and in the morning I’ll wake with quite a good hint of sandalwood and honey with the merest memory of the white flowers.

I’ve posted before about how much I LUV this perfume!!! I adore the opening blast. The honey has a rich texture to it and reminds me of Benedictine liquor. It is a powerhouse and I am very careful where I wear it. Tomorrow, I’ll be at home cleaning house and running errands – wearing this perfume and smelling amazing!

  • Laurels says:

Aaand the list keeps growing, although I still haven’t made up my mind about tuberose. You make Amoureuse sound irresistible.

  • Lisa D says:

I really like Amoureuse, but it’s definitely a “dabber” for me, as is Bois de Paradis (one of my absolute favorite scents). Both really lovely, though. Gosh, Portia, two full spritzes? Brave!

    • Portia says:

HA HA HA! It’s 3! Chest, wrist then smoosh to elbow, other wrist the smoosh to other elbow. Yes, I am a radioactive glamour puss when I walk out the door. The drive to where I’m going is UNBELIEVEABLE.
Don’t you ever just wanna go CER AY ZEE?

This sounds fantastic, and as a scent ‘experience’ people’s comment are reminding me of the way I feel about wearing Manoumalia, although I’m not sure how similar Amoureuse would actually smell…..would you say they are in any way related?

    • Portia says:

I am unfamiliar in my mind with Lez Nez’s Manoumalia but I’m sure I tried it somewhere. BUM. Mind going to mush.

  • AnnaT says:

Thanks for reminding me, I should wear it more often although we are having the first autumn days here. Amoureuse is one of my favourites and one of the few perfumes with prominent honey note that I can wear. I agree with malsnano, nothing weird in the opening (or maybe we are just strange;))

  • Mary K says:

I like Amoureuse and I wear it year ’round. I also like Delrae Emotionnelle, with all of its melon. Not sure what others think of that one, but there are days when I just feel like spritzing as much on as I feel like so that it will last all day and all evening.

    • Portia says:

      MaryK,
I feel like the centre of a fragrant mushroom cloud when I overspritz Amoureuse. Definitely a Do At Home job, otherwise people may get hurt.

  • Portia, I had a bottle when it was first released (ultimately lost in a move…) and I liked it…for ME, but just couldn’t bring myself to wear it around others…is that terribly strange? (I was hoping for a HG fragrance!) I felt it was too, TOO…edgy…I was going through a lot of other things at the time, elderly, ill parents, was always in the company of others…maybe I just didn’t give it a chance, really. Wish I still had it now…have been considering ordering a sample of the new “Wit”, as well!

  • einsof says:

a perfume fairy godmother dusted me with this on my spring tuberose kick- its DELISH! definitely FB, body products and candle worthy. but you’d better love your tuberose. 😉

    • Dear, your comment makes me really want to give it a second chance (see mine below) as I DO truly love my Tuberoses (in the garden and my beloved EL Tuberose Gardenia), but I wasn’t getting them then…in 2007, I think? It was right after the release…

      • Ah, I wasn’t even reading…2002…well, it wasn’t right after its release, then, but right after I had discovered it on LuckyScent, I guess… yes I was AFRAID for the first half hour, and didn’t let it go past that…(I do believe I washed it off many times!)

      • einsof says:

given the emotional content of the time you tried it before, perhaps this “edgy” feeling was merely the discomfort of having a personal space filled with such joy and intense sensuality? i would highly recommend having a bit of tea with Amoureuse again… as your focus shifts from the situation and space of others to yourself- maybe you would find filling your space with an uplifting “ME” aroma will encourage others to fill their space with joy as well. 😉

        much light anne!

    • Portia says:

Yes. the white flowers are BIG in this Einsof. Also yes, I could definitely burn a candle in this.

  • malsnano86 says:

I still love Amoureuse! I never get any weird out of the opening, and very little skanky either, but I don’t mind missing that. It’s just big spicy beautiful flowers for me.

It makes me happy to think of you wearing it, Portia.

    • Portia says:

      YAY MalsNano86,
It’s a goody. Interesting that you don’t get weird or skanky, it is a fabulous right on the edge fragrance for me.
One day we will meet and you’ll know me by my Amoureuse, I am smiling thinking of you wearing it too. Scent twins.

  • Neva says:

Sounds great to me! The “wet white flowers” were the keywords that made me open my eyes wider with joy…but also “spring” and “falling in love”…it goes immediately to my samples wish list 🙂 Thank you!

  • solanace says:

Thank´s for the review, I had no idea what Amoureuse was about, but from your description it sounds very interesting. I´ll be ordering a sample of it!

    • Portia says:

      Solanace,
Amoureuse is a gem. I hope you get the enjoyment from it that I do. Don’t be afraid of the opening half hour.
