Birthday Party Break

bday-imageHey, the day I’m writing this is my birthday, and I wound up taking a lot of the day off sorta sick and haven’t been quite feeling up to writing about perfume.  So let’s have a bit of a party.  Y’all asked what I was wearing for my birthday (and thanks for all the birthday wishes!), it was  CB I Hate Perfume Do Not Ask Me Why.  It’s an interesting departure for him, just released this month.  “An interpretation of the smell of opium smoke. heady and hypnotic with a distinctive floral note wafting seductively over a deep dry slightly spicy smoke.”  I’ve never smelled opium smoke, probably only because of lack of opportunity, so dunno if it’s close or not. It’s an interesting smoky oriental’ish scent.  I’m liking it a lot, and it has lasted a great long time on me, which is out of the norm for CB’s fragrances.

But to celebrate, I’ll give away six samples to commenters.  Comment on anything you’d like, maybe if you have a favorite CB or if you’ve even tried the line or no?

  • Barbara B says:

Happy very belated birthday! Have not tried a CBIHP yet. I have been very intrigued by poppies since the age of seven when I saw whole fields of them. And Georgia O’Keefe.

  • katrin says:

Happy belated Birthday! I hope you are already feeling better. Have never tried any of CB I Hate Perfume. Will it really make you hate it, I wonder.

  • Elia says:

    Happy Birthday!
That’s a lovely description makes for another lemming 🙂
I wore Vetiver Extrait RD for my own birthday

  • Laurels says:

Happy belated Birthday! Sorry you aren’t feeling well. Perhaps you could have a do-over next week.

  • Kandice says:

Hi Patty. Hope you’re feeling better. Thanks for letting us share in your birthday with this drawing. I have not had a chance to try any of this line though I would really like to. I think if I was going to try them this would definitely be on my list to try since I like smokey, spicy scents. Thanks again!

  • silvrolive says:

Happy Birthday Party! I have heard lots about CB I hate perfume but have not had the chance to try any of the scents yet. This one sounds interesting. Thanks for the draw!

  • poodletwins says:

Happy Birthday! I haven’t tied any of CB perfumes. My first choice would be 7 Billion Hearts. Thanks for the draw.

  • Janet in California says:

Being sick on your birthday is horrible. But at least you smelled exotic (narcotic?). There are 2 CB I do wear, At the Beach 1966 in the summer and 7 Billion Hearts in the winter.
    You need a birthday re-do!

  • Maya says:

DNEM. Wanted to wish you a happy birthday and I hope you’re feeling much better. Everything is more enjoyable when you feel good. I tried several CB I Hate Perfume a few years ago and they did nothing for me. I have no interest in them anymore.

  • Aaron says:

Happy Birthday! I have never tried the CB line before. I am a “newbie” to the fragrance community and I am still trying to build up my collection. I’m also trying to create a well rounded collection and I am sampling anything I can get my hands on!

  • Ashley A says:

Happy birthday and hope you get to feeling better! I really enjoy CB I hate Perfume and I especially love “To See a Flower”. It always reminds me of spring. I have just a tiny little sample of it, it stays close to the skin, but the experience is one of a flower blooming. It starts out all earth and green, and turns into the most delicate jonquil. This is making me very much wish it were spring!

  • Neva says:

Unfortunately I’ve never tried anything from CB I Hate Perfume. They don’t sell it around here. The name is very intriguing though…do not ask me why 😉

  • Jackie b says:

Happy birthday! Sorry you are not well…I was sick on my birthday this year too, patently unfair!
Have not tried any of CB IHate Perfume, maybe this is a chance.

  • Happy birthday! I’m sorry you weren’t feeling well though. Being sick on holidays and birthdays sucks. I’ve been sick on my vacation the last two years in a row, so I hope this year will be better.

I haven’t tried much from CBIHP… just Musk Reinvention and November, which I really liked. This new one sounds nice.

  • tammy says:

I have never smelled opium smoke, but the Opium Den candle by DL&Co is one of my favorites. I haven’t had the pleasure of trying any of CBs fragrances, but Black March has always intrigued me. This one sounds amazing, too; thanks for the chance to try it!

  • Eloquaint says:

Happy birthday! I love giving stuff away on my birthday. May I be entered in the draw, please?

  • Elena says:

Love Black March! It really opened my eyes to what was going on with non mainstream perfumes. So cool.

  • Pixel says:

Happy Birthday! Hope you feel better soon. I spent my bday this year wearing Eau de Nyquil so I sympathize…

I’ve tried several CB’s, and I’d love to try this one. My faves are AmBrosia (which lasts a long time on me) and Musk reinvention (which I lurrrrrrrrv but am a bit nervous about wearing out in the world; it smells GREAT to me but that doesn’t seem to be a universal reaction ;^)

Oh and I have a sample of Cradle of Light sitting there waiting patiently for me. I know I should try it (soon). But what if I love it?? $$$$ Such a dilemma :^)

  • Janice says:

My favorite is 7 Billion Hearts, but for an all-tme odd and interesting perfume I think I’d pick Black March.

  • Cheeptrick says:

I love smoky smells, too– CB Burning Leaves is a fall fav! Happy birthday, belated!

  • Julie l says:

Count me in! I haven’t tried any of the line but always thought they sounded intriguing. Sorry you’re sick; I’ve been trying to get rid of my cooties too, with very little luck. Merry Christmas!

  • Sapphire says:

Have never tried any of his perfumes, but this one sounds so interesting. Many happy returns and I hope you are well soon!

  • Audrey says:

I have tryed 7 billion hearts and a patchouly fragrance he has. Both are interesting and long lasting. The opium fragrance sounds interesting.

  • AnnieA says:

Joyeux anniversaire too. Most curious to try a CB with longevity.

  • Anne says:

Joyeux anniversaire! I like Black Water (yes I wear it), Russian Caravan, Musk reinvention, Library (even though it lasts three seconds on me) and adore Burning Leaves (on its own or layered) with all my smoke loving heart. As I have smelled old opium smoke before in a family heirloom, so I would love to compare.

  • London says:

Belated happy birthday! I have tried a few CBIHPs but never found one to love. Maybe this is it!

  • Deva says:

Hope you are feeling better soon!

I know turning 21 is a huge event in a young lady’s life! I think experiencing opium smoke via perfume is the ideal way to do it since there are no legal ramifications- those can be a little tricky!

Enjoy your special day, smell good, and avoid acting your age at any cost!! 😉

  • Ann says:

Patty, hope you are feeling better today, birthday girl! Just extend your celebration throughout the week and enjoy! DNEM, of course.

  • Joaquim says:

    Happy birthday!
My favorite CB scent is A room with a view, I didn’t tried all the line because here, in Spain, the distribution is very limited (and the shipping fees are outrageously high: 90$!) but I deeply love the style of mr. Brosius.

    Thank you for the draw!

  • Patty, sorry I am late with the birthday wishes, and hope you are feeling better soon! I grew poppies one year, and tried to harvest the juice but had no luck getting anything out of them. Probably for the best… That CB sounds really interesting!

  • Tena says:

Sorry you were feeling BLECH on your birthday 🙁 . Mine was just a few weeks ago, and I wore Rozy – a heavenly scent indeed. One of my destinations in my planned NYC trip is the CB IHP store, so please enter me.

  • poodle says:

Hope you are feeling better soon. I’ve only tried one CB scent and it made me rather emotional. That whole scent/memory thing is pretty strong sometimes. I love smokey scents so this sounds like one I’d love a chance to sniff. Thanks for the chance.

  • solanace says:

Hope you are feeling better, Patty. Never came accross anything from CB, but I’ve been curious about 7 Billion Hearts for ages. On the other hand, I came accross opium in Southern Asia, but passed, because a single girl traveller has to be careful about her kidneys, lol. Would love to try the perfume, thank’s!

  • Michael R says:

I really like Beast and his Tobacco accord. Hope you feel better soon and Happy Birthday!!!!

  • Nemo says:

Happy birthday! I love that you are trying something new on your birthday, and something that smells like a narcotic at that 🙂 I hope your future is full of other happy, fragrant surprises.

  • FeralJasmine says:

Wahoo, please enter me! I have enjoyed a number of CB’s perfumes, but probably my favorite is 7 Billion Hearts. Only in cool weather, though. Once the days heat up, it drives its sharp cedar fingernails right into my skin. In the winter, it purrs. Unlike some of his others, the longevity is terrific. I wish he worked more with florals, and would love to sniff this one. Happy birthday!

  • Tiffanie says:

Hap-hap-happy birthday! I hope you are feeling up to smelling lots of good things. I am amazed at how my nose perks up after a break from fragrance.

I have enjoyed every CB I Hate Perfume I’ve tried. My favorite has always been Tea Rose. It smells fresh, like a real rose to me. I love fragrances that smell like the real deal.

  • Spiker says:

Patty – I hope you’re feeling well again soon.

I really like CB’s 7 Billion Hearts. I find that the Absolue is strong enough that the 2ml samples last quite well on me. I’d love to try the new one.

  • Angelique says:

HaHaHaHa! on the “probably from lack of opportunity” line. Precious. I did try “Fire from Heaven” … I mean … how could I *NOT*? It’s a personality kinda thing. *wink* Smile. I admit it’s been a while, so had to look up the description, and then it did come back to me clearly that this smelled so much like a heavy male scent that I didn’t feel 100% comfortable wearing it. Might try something else again someday. See what affect it has!

  • Becky says:

I’ve never tried anything in this line, but this sounds lovely. Thanks for the chance!

  • Judy says:

    And Happy Bday!

  • Judy says:

CB I Hate Never Having Tried This Line of Perfume!

  • Sun Mi says:

I’ve never tried a CB I Hate Perfume scent – but I have to admit – I have been DYING to try ‘Do Not Ask Me Why’ since I saw it pop up on NST. I too have never smelled opium smoke, but reading about this perfume has really made me want to smell opium smoke as well! Haha. I’m sorry that you aren’t feeling great on your birthday though – best wishes for a speedy recovery and a wonderful birthday week!
